With Hugh Grant firmly in his villain era, Hollywood has been on the hunt for the next star to step into his leading man rom-com shoes.
But according to fans of hit new Netflix show, Nobody Wants This, movie bosses can now call off their search.
Adam Brody, 44, who soared to fame in 00s teen drama The OC, has been hailed as ‘the next Hugh Grant’ for his charismatic turn in the ‘highly bingeable ‘ series.
In it, Adam plays progressive rabbi Noah who has just left a long-term relationship before falling for sex podcaster Joanne (Kristen Bell), but their romance encounters several bumps along the road.
On X, Nobody Wants This fans have said it was a ‘travesty’ the Gilmore Girls actor had been overlooked for rom-coms and described his ‘leading man energy’ as ‘very rare’.
@DannyPellegrino argued: ‘So Adam Brody has that charming romcom leading man energy that’s VERY rare and I can’t believe he hasn’t done more of these. He’s giving early Tom Hanks/Hugh Grant/Billy Crystal in Nobody Wants This.’

Echoing their sentiment, @allthatbazzz fumed: ‘It’s a travesty that he hasn’t been a rom-com lead for the last 15 years. We have been robbed!’
Agreeing, @bravoburneract commented: ‘I’ve never understood why he hasn’t had a string of roles like this. He’s adorable.’
@MsKimKendall also added: ‘He has ALWAYS had this vibe ~ always. And he’s only gotten better with age. Nobody Wants This should be titled~ Every Woman Wants This Now.’
Nobody Wants This has been a hit with viewers and critics alike since it debuted on Netflix last week, having a 91% score on reviews aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.
On Rotten Tomatoes, fans have described Nobody Wants This as a ‘joy’ to watch, while others have praised Kristen and Adam’s, both 44, ‘incredible chemistry’.
‘It’s a joy to watch Bell and Brody bounce off each other like this, each at the top of their game. And it’s a shot in the arm for romantic comedies in general’, Dave Nemetz wrote.
‘Great writing, great cast, and incredible chemistry made this a binge wash for me, followed by a quick search for “Will there be a season 2?”. Loved this!’ Lorie J added.
Adam’s breakout role was as loveable nerd Seth Cohan in The OC, which ran from 2003 until 2007.
His other TV credits include Gilmore Girls, Smallville, New Girls and Fleishman Is In Trouble.
Over on the big screen, Adam has had roles in the original Mr & Mrs Smith alongside Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, In the Land of Women and horror Jennifer’s Body.
He also performed in the Oscar-winning Emerald Fennell film Promising Young Woman.
Adam has been married to Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester, 38, for a decade and the couple share two children
