Rampant Lions rip Scotsmen to shreds

The Lions were in ruthless form as they ran in eight tries to sink Edinburgh 55-21 in Johannesburg on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions have now seen off both Ulster and Edinburgh to move into the top four on the URC table, ahead of the likes of Leinster and Munster.

MATCH RECAP: LIONS ROAR PAST TAME EDINBURGH

Wings Maxwane (three) and Edwill van der Merwe (two) scored five tries between them, while Van der Merwe’s fellow Springbok Quan Horn, his namesake Francke Horn as well as Rynhardt Jonker all touched down for the hosts.

The Lions were rampant from the outset as they ran the visitors ragged from all over the park with brilliant interplay, silky handling skills and brilliant tactical kicking.

Soon the home side found themselves 48-0 up courtesy of a seven-try feast in the first half.

But Edinburgh tightened their defence after the interval, while also showing more patience with ball in hand and led to them launching a mini-comeback with three tries on the trot.

But just as they thought they were well back in the contest or perhaps just on the verge of securing an all-important fourth try for a bonus point, Maxwane scuttled over to complete his hat-trick and put the result beyond doubt.
