Kaizer Chiefs to loan out star in January transfer window.
Chiefs plan to loan out midfielder George Matlou as he continues his recovery from a knee injury. Sources close to the club indicate that Matlou may find it challenging to secure playing time this season, prompting the team’s management to explore options for a temporary transfer.
Head coach Nasreddine Nabi seems content with his current squad composition, an insider revealed. “The club appears to be exploring options to loan Matlou to a team where he can stay fit and get regular playing time in the second half of the season.” Although Matlou has resumed training after his knee surgery, he may not fit into the coach’s immediate plans, making a loan move likely.
Searching for the right fit
The club aims to find a team that not only needs Matlou but is also willing to agree to the loan terms. With his contract running until June 2025, the loaning team could potentially negotiate a permanent transfer if all goes well. The source further explained, “The coach seems satisfied with nearly 99% of the squad he has started the season with,” suggesting that several injured players, including Matlou, may face loan or release options.
Nasreddine Nabi has pinpointed his core players but actively seeks to enhance his lineup by recruiting an additional winger and striker from outside the club. Despite his clear vision for strengthening the squad, these plans have yet to come to fruition. As a result, injured players like George Matlou find themselves sidelined and excluded from the team’s immediate strategy, highlighting the need for effective reinforcements to ensure a more competitive squad.
Matlou’s journey at Kaizer Chiefs
George Matlou, 26, joined Kaizer Chiefs in 2022 from Swallows FC on a two-year contract, which the club extended until June 2025. In his debut season, he made 12 appearances under coach Arthur Zwane, but a knee injury during his second season cut short his promising start after seven games under coach Molefi Ntseki.
As January approaches, all eyes will be on George Matlou and the Kaizer Chiefs’ decision regarding his loan. This move could provide Matlou with the playing time he needs to regain his form and continue his development in a competitive environment.
