Kaizer Chiefs boss Nasreddine Nabi has identified 99% of the core of his squad. He’s also open to letting players go in January.
Nabi continues to reshape his Kaizer Chiefs squad
Chiefs will allow 26-year-old midfielder George Matlou to leave on loan in January. He continues his rehabilitation from a knee injury.
Via SoccerLaduma:
“The club appears to be exploring options to loan Matlou to a team where he can stay fit and get regular playing time in the second half of the season.
“Although he has resumed training after his knee surgery, it doesn’t necessarily mean he is in the coach’s plans for this season. To ensure he gets the opportunity to play, they are likely looking to loan him out. The club is believed to be searching for a team that needs him and is willing to agree to the loan terms and conditions. Given that his contract runs until June 2025, there is also a possibility that the loaning team could negotiate a permanent transfer,” an insider revealed.
“The coach seems satisfied with nearly 99% of the squad he has started the season with. He is reportedly in need of just one winger and one striker, which he has been trying to bring in from outside. However, since those plans haven’t materialized. It appears that players currently injured or not playing, including George Matlou, are not part of his immediate plans,” the source added.
Motaung Jr denied wrongdoing in Velebayi chase
Meanwhile, Chiefs Sporting Director has denied that the club contacted Asanele Velebayi’s parents. They reportedly pitched a deal to sign the 21-year-old winger.
A famous European example of a similar controversial ‘tapping up’ situation occurred in 2009. Man United allegedly paid Paul Pogba’s parents a significant chunk of cash to secure a move for the then-16-year-old midfielder from Le Havre. Via The Guardian:
“The controversy over Manchester United’s signing of the 16-year-old French midfielder Paul Pogba has taken a fresh twist, amid claims that the player’s parents were given €100,000 (£87,000) each, and a house, to bring him to Old Trafford.”
Which club would be the best place for Matlou to get his career back on track?
