Kaizer Chiefs hit by injuries: Sirino and others out

Kaizer Chiefs title challenges have been dealt an early season blow.

New signing and Uruguayan international Gaston Sirino is battling with an abductor injury, the club confirms.

Reporting to their official site, AmaKhosi physio Dave Milner said, “Gaston Sirino sustained an abductor muscle injury in the last match. He is improving nicely, and we expect him to be back in full training within two weeks.”

To make matters worse, the Glamour Boys have four other injuries to manage: George Matlou, Edmilson Dove, Tebogo Potsane, and Brandon Peterson.

Will Sirino start the Chiefs next game?

On October 26, Kaizer Chiefs will travel to SuperSport United’s Peter Mokaba Stadium, making it three away games in four fixtures.

Kick-off time: 17:30

While Sirino is expected to be in full training the week of the match, he will most likely come off the bench to avoid a repeat injury and get back to match fitness.

The ex-Sundowns star has been a revelation for Kaizer Chiefs averaging a goal or an assist in his opening three games.

Who else is injured?

Three games in, and AmaKhosi is already battling an injury-stricken team, but it looks like good news is on the way with several figures expected back in the next two months.

Milner reported on the club’s site, “Another player progressing well is George Matlou. He has started running and doing some ball work, and we are looking at a November return for him.

Tebogo Potsane went for a scan which showed some ligament damage [in his ankle], so we expect him to be out for around three weeks.

Edmilson Dove is out of the protective boot and is doing some preliminary walking. We are confident he will be able to start running in November.

“Brandon [Petersen] had the pins removed from his finger and can start full training immediately.”
