Benni McCarthy is a free agent but where will he land: Latest

Benni McCarthy is a free agent and has officially entered the coaching market after parting ways with Manchester United. Where he served as the first-team strikers’ coach. His career trajectory has already sparked interest, reminiscent of his playing days when he regularly turned heads on the pitch. Starting his coaching journey in Belgium with Sint-Truidense as an assistant, McCarthy quickly made his mark by leading Cape Town City to his first silverware in his inaugural head coaching role. He followed this with a remarkable stint at AmaZulu, where he transformed the team from a relegation threat to a second-place finish, also guiding them to the CAF Champions League group stage for the first time in history.

McCarthy’s two-season tenure at Manchester United, one of the biggest clubs in global football, saw him win the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup. He has recently attracted attention from multiple clubs, including Major League Soccer teams, Mamelodi Sundowns, and even a return to AmaZulu. However, McCarthy is taking his time to choose his next move carefully.

“There’s been a lot of different approaches for Benni from different clubs all over the world,” confirmed his agency, Centre Circle, to iDiski Times digital newspaper. “What’s important for us is the right project. When the right project comes, he’ll jump back in, but we’re in no rush. The next step for Benni is crucial after his experience at United.”

Moving forward: McCarthy’s next coaching opportunity

While many coaches face scrutiny when transitioning between roles. Matthew Moore from Centre Circle dismissed concerns that McCarthy’s role at United might hinder his future prospects. “Benni had success as a head coach in South Africa, both at AmaZulu and Cape Town City,” he stated. “His time at United provided invaluable learning experiences, elevating his coaching skills to the next level. Now he’s ready to return as a first-team coach.”

Rumours have circulated that Sundowns reached out to McCarthy through Sporting Director Flemming Berg to discuss a potential role, as first reported by this publication. With uncertainty surrounding the head coach position following Rulani Mokwena’s exit. Manqoba Mngqithi currently holds the role but prefers the title of “Coach.” Despite Sundowns’ strong position at the top of the league, Moore emphasised that no concrete offers have been made yet.

“There’s nothing to consider at the moment because there’s no offer from them. If there is one, he would consider it, but Sundowns is an interesting project,” Moore noted. “They have high ambitions, including the FIFA Club World Cup, but for now, there’s nothing on the table.”
