Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has a clear favourite in Monnapule Saleng. Are we surprised? Nope.
WHY ORLANDO PIRATES COACH JOSE RIVEIRO LOVES MONNAPULE SALENG
Speaking to the media after the Sea Robbers beat Stellenbosch FC 3-1 to win a record third MTN8 trophy on the bounce, coach Riveiro was encouraged to reveal why he tends to show relentless faith in Saleng, even when the 26-year-old is having a bad game.
The Spaniard said the Orlando Pirates winger is always likely to score a goal simply because he never gets tired like most players.
“It’s important [to have him in the team]. He [Saleng] managed to score one more time [in the MTN8 final against Stellenbosch FC]. He was a permanent threat in the 90 minutes,” said Riveiro via FARPost.
“He never gets tired. He’s always a threat after five minutes and 90 minutes. It was a difficult week for the boy to make it possible but at the end we managed to have him here to be part of this MTN8,” the Orlando Pirates mentor concluded.
CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE DRAW
Orlando Pirates players only had two days to celebrate the MTN8 after beating Stellenbosch FC 3-1 last weekend. Bigger business has been announced for the Buccaneers.
After taking place in Cairo on Monday, the CAF Champions League Group Stage/Last 16 draw placed Orlando Pirates Group C with Egyptian giants Al Ahly, Algeria’s CR Belouizdad and Stade D’Abidjan of Ivory Coast.
