Ex-Kaizer Chiefs and Sundowns star Keagan Dolly is training with SuperSport United during the international break. What’s going on there?
Dolly trains with SuperSport
According to SoccerLaduma, Keagan Dolly is training with SuperSport United where he was rumoured to have held talks at the start of the season. Dolly was released by Kaizer Chiefs at the end of the 2023-2024 campaign. Matsatsantsa boss Gavin Hunt opted to sign Vincent Pule from Pirates ahead of Dolly. The 31-year-old former Montpellier and Sundowns star made only eight appearances in his final season with Kaizer Chiefs. Unfortunately for the attacking midfielder, injuries were a constant theme in his three-and-a-half years at Naturena.
Dolly’s Kaizer Chiefs tenure was a failure
Keagan Dolly, once a superstar winger at Montpellier and Sundowns, struggled to recapture his best form at Chiefs. Since signing for Amakhosi in July 2021, the 31-year-old only racked up 67 appearances for the Glamour Boys with 14 goals and 11 assists. The 2016 CAF Champions League winner has 23 caps for Bafana Bafana but the last of those came in 2022 in a friendly against France.
Cufa Cup is on the horizon
32-year-old striker Ranga Chivaviro battled in his debut campaign for Chiefs but things are looking a little rosier in 2024-2025. The former Gallants man, incredibly prolific for his old team, has scored in back-to-back Betway Premiership matches, recently against Sundowns. Ranga bagged an astonishing 17 goals in 29 appearances across all competitions for Gallants in the 2022-2023 campaign so the Limpopo-based side knows all about the threat he poses. Gallants and Chiefs meet in the friendly Cufa Cup on Sunday13 October.
Next three in the Betway Premiership
Amakhosi, meanwhile, have just under three weeks to wait until their next Betway Premiership fixture. They’ve started this campaign in decent fashion, with two wins from three, and a recent defeat to Sundowns. Their goal, of course, will be to compete for next season’s MTN8 at a minimum. Here are their next few fixtures as Nabi continues to settle into life at Naturena and they could have several first-teamers back from injury too:
- SuperSport United vs Kaizer Chiefs – Saturday, October 26, Lucas Moripe Stadium, 17:30 kickoff
- Magesi FC vs Kaizer Chiefs – Wednesday, October 30, Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, 19:30 kickoff
- Kaizer Chiefs vs Royal AM – Sunday, November 9 – FNB Stadium, 17:30 kickoff
Where did it all go wrong for Dolly at Chiefs? Were injuries the only factor?
