Former City of Tshwane acting mayor and ActionSA Gauteng leader Abel Tau has joined uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party.
Tau is the latest high-profile politician to dump their political party and join the Jacob Zuma-led party.
ABEL TAU JOINS MK PARTY
In November 2022 ActionSA terminated Tau’s membership. He had been placed on leave in October following attempted rape allegations.
The former MMC for Human Settlements in Tshwane allegedly made sexual advances to his friend’s wife which she rejected. He allegedly then tried to force himself on her, but she successfully fended him off.
Following his dismissal, Tau founded the United Africans Transformation (UAT).
On Thursday, 9 October, Tau was among the new members unveiled at a briefing at the Garden Court Hotel in Tshwane.
HIGHLIGHTS OF HIS POLITICAL CAREER
- Abel Tau served as a DA councillor and regional chairperson in Tshwane until 2020 when he resigned to join Herman Mashaba in ActionSA.
- In November 2019 Tau who was a DA member at the time was appointed acting mayor after Stevens Mokgalapa was placed on special leave following allegations that he had sex with MMC for Roads and Transport, Sheila Senkubuge.
- Tau was appointed MMC for Human Settlements by former Tshwane mayor Randall Williams in December 2021.
- In November 2022 ActionSA terminated his membership following rape allegations.
- Tau founded the United Africans Transformation (UAT) in January 2023.
- In June 2023 he dumped UAT and founded The Transformation Alliance (TTA).
