The PSL may hibernate while the AFCON qualifiers unfold, but it never rests. Players and clubs are always on the lookout for new opportunities—just ask Pitso Mosimane.
The January transfer season, which runs between January 1 to 30, is the last chance for clubs to upgrade their squads. Some deals are negotiated months before the window opens, while others linger back and forth between agents, directors, and players before declaring it void.
Several teams are hoping to strike a deal or two in January; Nabi Nasreddine has been public about wanting more firepower upfront.
On the contrary, Cape Town City will try their hardest to keep star player Asanele Velebayi, who has been heavily linked with the Glamour Boys.
PSL Transfer Gossip
From Percy Tau to Monnapule Saleng, there’s a lot of gossip surrounding several star players.
- Orlando Pirates will hope to retain 26-year-old winger Saleng, who has been pivotal in their perfect start to the season; however, Belgium side Standard Liege are reported to be interested in the attacking winger.
- Former Premier League player Percy Tau, whose contract runs out in June 2025, is likely to leave Al Ahly with Kaizer Chiefs or Wydad Casablanca hoping to put pen to paper.
- Following Nabi’s public request for attacking players, it seems that Kaizer Chiefs will increase their offer for Cape Town’s Velabayi; multiple offers were rejected during the winter window.
- Ranga Chivaviro’s contract runs out in June 2025, prompting Chiefs to begin negotiations for a possible two-year extension. Nabi hopes to keep the out-and-out attacker at the club.
More on the Saleng situation
The Buccaneers will do all they can to keep Saleng in the black and white. He has already scored two goals in their opening three games.
“It’s not like the interest died off. It is just that last season he was not playing much so it was hard for the teams interested in him to monitor his progress but they were checking what was going on. Now, since he is back in the thick of things, the interest has arisen again”, an anonymous source told Soccer Laduma.
“It’s Standard Liege that have shown interest. Actually, last season, they were also interested in Mohau Nkota while Monaco SC were interested in Saleng. So, now it is believed that the Standard Liege scouts are looking at Saleng since Nkota has not been playing much since his promotion”, they concluded.
