WHEN it comes to decorating homes, adding panelling seems to be all the rage these days.
However, one savvy woman shared how she saved herself £400 by doing it herself instead of hiring a professional – thanks to a £18 B&Q kit.

TikTok user @leahjamo showed how her lounge looked rather plain and bare before the transformation.
She showed how she wanted to spruce up the wall that held her TV, so purchased the bargain B&Q kit.
Leah wrote: “POV you got the £18 panelling kit from B&Q and saved £400.
“Save yourself that money and get your diy head on.”
First she laid out the wooden panels on the wall to check they would fit, and then attached them with No More Nails.
All she had to do was stick them in place, wait for them to dry and then she could get on with painting them.
She opted for Johnson’s paint in the shade Toasted Beige for a polished finish.
After adding a side table with autumnal decorations, the lounge looked so chic, and thankfully hadn’t taken long at all to achieve.
Leah shared how she had spent just two hours on the job in total.
Many people were impressed with her DIY job, and her video has racked up over 88,000 likes.
One person wrote: “I’m going to find this end of the week.”
Easy kit
According to the B&Q website, it appeared to be the Cheshire Mouldings MDF Wall panelling kit.
The product description reads: “Get a more up-to-date take on shaker panelling with the MDF wall kit.
“The slightly thicker MDF strips create a bold statement on any wall.
Can wall panelling add value to your home?
AN INTERIORS expert has revealed how panelling can instantly add more value to your home.
Lucy Henderson, head of design at My Bespoke Room, explained: “A few tips and tricks can make a big difference when designing and fitting out a home.”
The interior whizz noted: “Timber panelling can add a ‘wow factor’ to certain properties, especially period properties.
“Half-height, full-height, or painted wall panelling can add interesting detail to rooms, like hallways and bedrooms.
“Well-made panelling adds a more high-end feeling to a property and can make it appear more expensive.”
According to her, this feature can help any space feel cosier and more intimate.
Other things that can add value, according to Lucy, are walls in neutral colours or green and blue tones, high quality flooring, and having both a bath and walk-in shower.
“MDF is a hardwearing and stable material when sealed and can remain in place for years.
“Its smooth surfaces are easy to paint the colour of your choice.”
Each kit includes six 1.2m MDF strips (97mmx9mm) and it covers an area of approximately 1.2msq.
Leah said in her comments that she needed two kits to cover her wall.
The website says the wood is “easy to fix to your wall with glue, nails or screw.”
