Another top actress has reportedly left ‘Umkhokha: The Curse’

Fan-favourite actress Sphelele Luthuli has reportedly exited Mzansi Magic’s Umkhokha: The Curse.

ACTRESS SPHELELE LUTHULI: EXIT?

Zimoja reports that Umkhokha: The Curse actress Sphelele Luthuli who plays Nokubonga has also left the telenovela.

Sources from the show reveal to the publication Luthuli was let go because producers did not know what to do with her character anymore.

This comes after entertainment commentator Jabu McDonald revealed this week that actors Kwanele Mthethwa, Angel Zuma and Msizi Njapha have also left the show.

Mthethwa took over fan-favourite actress Kwezi Ndlovu’s character as Nobuntu in 2023.

Sources from Umkhokha: The Curse previously revealed to the publication that Zuma has been offered a lucrative role on the internationally acclaimed musical drama, The Lion King.

The publication adds that the faith-based telenovela is completing season two and there is still no word from Mzansi Magic whether they are renewing contracts for season three or not.

Multichoice publicist Portia Hlongwane said they were not aware of the news of actors being fired or quitting the telenovela. “Let me find out for you. But Msizi’s storyline is still part of the show,” said Hlongwane.

Hlongwane also previously confirmed to Zimoja that Zuma has gotten an amazing opportunity to be part of the Lion King in Canada (Toronto).

The South African reached out to actress Sphelele Luthuli for a comment on Friday, 18 October.

MBUSO KHOZA RETURNS TO ‘UMKHOKHA: THE CURSE’

The departures of the four actors come after musician and actor Mbuso Khoza, who portrayed the role of Babu Maphalala returned to Umkhokha: The Curse.

Entertainment commentator Jabu Mcdonald revealed in July that the Umkhokha: The Curse actor will reprise his role as Babu Maphalala.

This comes after Khoza confirmed his departure from the faith-based earlier in 2024.
