Ateneo’s Kristian Porter not discouraged after missing crucial shots in loss

MANILA, Philippines – Kristian Porter’s license to shoot will not be revoked.

Despite missing some key shots in the clutch in the Ateneo Blue Eagles’ loss to the FEU Tamaraws in the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball tournament, Porter is not discouraged to do the same when needed next time.

“The coaches just said take the good shots, the open shots, and during those situations, that guy was me. I shot them, I missed them, but at the end of the game, they told me they trust me and have my back no matter what,” Porter said after the 66-65 overtime loss on Sunday, September 29.

“I’ll just take those learning experiences, keep working on my shots for the next game,” he added.

Porter missed three open go-ahead shots in the final minute of regulation, including the potential game-winning trey that would have given the Blue Eagles their second win of the season in five games.

Up 3 points early in overtime, Ateneo failed to maintain the lead as Tamaraws guard Jorick Bautista caught fire in the clutch, lifting FEU to its first win in six games.

Porter finished with 11 points on a paltry 3-of-14 shooting clip, including 3-of-10 from rainbow country, along with 9 rebounds.

“I take it as a learning curve. We overall didn’t shoot the ball that well,” said Porter, referring to Ateneo’s 28% shooting.

“But that’s something we can work on, something we can improve on, and hopefully something we can lean on in the future.”

“I’m taking it. I’m not going to throw away the trust that everyone has put in me, so 101% I’m taking that shot and next time, I’m going to make it.” – Rappler.com
