Are Kaizer Chiefs looking to buy Ranga Chivaviro a partner?

Ranga Chivaviro has been banging the goals for Kaizer Chiefs season but the club is still short of strikers.

Ashley du Preez is the only other striker available for Amakhosi. Chivaviro has so far been the preferred choice by Nasreddine Nabi and the 30-year-old big forward has rewarded his coach with two goals in three league matches so far.

According to Soccer Laduma, Kaizer Chiefs could revisit their interest in Kenyan striker Michael Olunga. The Kenyan national football team captain is currently with Qatari side Al-Duhail. For Duhail, Olunga has scored 70 goals in 70 appearances during his three years at the club.

Kaizer Chiefs might have to pay big money to get the 30-year-old out of Qatar. Nabi needs a top striker to partner up with Chivaviro up front and maybe Olunga might be the man to take the pressure off the former Marumo Gallants star.

Amakhosi were linked with Congolese striker Fiston Mayele but his Egyptian club refused to sell him.

“You see at the moment the Fiston Mayele mission looks impossible because after losing Fagrie Lakay, Pyramids FC don’t want to lose Mayele as well,” a Soccer Laduma insider said.

“That’s why Chiefs are now looking at Michael (Olunga) for January as well. So they are revisiting that interest. They feel it will be much easier getting Michael at this point than to stay on the Mayele chase.”

Kaizer Chiefs search for another striker

A second source also told the publication that Amakhosi are looking to bring in Olunga in January.

“Yes, the main focus in January is on a striker and since it’s becoming clear that they may not get Fiston Mayele, they have reignited interest in Michael Olunga. But whatever the team does, they want to have a striker in January to play with Ranga (Chivaviro). At the moment Ranga is their main striker while Wandile (Duba) is like a second striker but more of a winger from Nabi’s point of view. So they are looking at Olunga once again,” said the second source.
