Kagiso Rabada reached 300 Test wickets for the Proteas

Proteas fast bowler Kagiso Rabada became the sixth South African bowler to take 300 Test wickets.

The 29-year-old achieved the feat by taking the wicket of Bangladeshi wicketkeeper Mushfiq Rahim. He now joins the elite 300 club led by Dale Steyn, with 439 scalps, followed by Shaun Pollock (421), Makhaya Ntini (390), Allan Donald (330) and Morne Morkel (309).

“Kagiso Rabada gets his 300th test wicket. Congratulations to Kagiso Rabada on reaching a monumental milestone, delivered at 13.5 overs in today’s Test against Bangladesh!

Your dedication to the craft and game-changing pace continues to inspire the nation. Here’s to many more wickets and making history for South Africa,” Cricket South Africa said in a statement.

On Sunday, Proteas assistant coach Ashwell Prince said KG was the driving force in the team.

“He’s really intent on being a driving force for the team. He’s a crucial member of the national team, he leads from the front with his bowling and has got a real positive attitude, especially towards Test cricket.

“There are many in the world now who don’t see Test cricket as being very exciting or profitable (like T20 cricket), but here’s a guy who’s able to play in all the leagues everywhere, but he’s playing Test cricket for his country,” said Prince as per The Citizen.

With 300 out of the way, Kagiso Rabada is now just under 30 wickets away to reach Donald’s record. Given he is 29, he still has another six to seven years to try to break Steyn’s record of 439 wickets.

The Proteas are currently touring Bangladesh in a two-Test match series. So far, Rabada and the team appear to be in control on day one.

Will Rabada break Dale Steyn’s record?
