This week’s spotlight is on HBO’s hottes new series, ‘The Penguin‘, a thrilling spinoff from The Batman universe.
If you enjoy any of those drug lords shows and movies, then peep this one, as this series doesn’t play far from that.
The show dives deep into the dark and brutal underworld of Gotham City, with Oswald “Oz” Cobblepot, played by Colin Farrell.
Once a caretaker for the powerful Falcone family, Oz now walks with a limp like a penguin, courtesy of his mangled foot—but don’t let that fool you. His ambition to rule Gotham’s criminal empire is anything but small.
After the fall of the Falcone family, Oz takes matters into his own hands by killing Roman Falcone, the son of the family’s former leader. This marks the beginning of his ruthless ascent as he seizes the opportunity to carve his own path to power. Through manipulation, extortion, and outright murder, Oz climbs the criminal ranks, exploiting every weakness and leaving a trail of chaos behind him. His thirst for control grows with each episode, solidifying him as one of Gotham’s most dangerous players.
The series also introduces a solid cast of Cristin Milioti who plays Sofia Falcone, and is after Oz for betraying her family. Rhenzy Feliz plays Vic, who becomes the right hand man for Oz.
Farrell’s chilling portrayal of The Penguin is both captivating and terrifying, showcasing a man driven by a desire for dominance and power. With sharp storytelling and an engrossing mix of betrayal, violence, and ambition, The Penguin gives viewers a front-row seat to the rise of Gotham’s next big crime boss.
The series is now streaming on Showmax. Check out the trailer to get a glimpse:
