Kaizer Chiefs face stiff competition for Polokwane and Bafana winger Oswin Appollis. The talented star is wanted both locally and abroad.
Chiefs will have to fight for the in-form Appollis
According to The Citizen, Amakhosi made an offer to Polokwane City for Oswin Appollis during the winter window. However, the 23-year-old stayed put and has continued to churn out impressive performances. The latest was a man of the match display against Gallants in the Carling Knockout. The Citizen’s sources believe that Chiefs will return to try and sign Appollis again in January. However, there will be plenty of competition for his signature after he’s shone in Afcon qualifiers for his country. Chiefs, Sundowns, Esperance from Tunisia and MC Algers of Algeria have all expressed interest.
“Chiefs are professional in the way they deal with transfers and they will go through the right channels again when the window opens again but other clubs have shown interest in Ossie as well,” confirmed a source close to the player.
“I can’t tell you which club in Europe wants him because it’s still too early to say but it’s not only in Africa where he’s in demand. At the end of the day, Polokwane City will have the final say because he has a contract with them.”
Carling Knockout quarter-finals are set
Chiefs, Magesi, Richards Bay, and Marumo Gallants were in the unseeded pot. Meanwhile, Sundowns, Cape Town City, TS Galaxy and Stellenbosch were the seeded sides after finishing in the top eight last season. Amakhosi knew they were getting a seeded opponent and got the most difficult task on paper. However, if they can get past the Brazilians they’ll quietly fancy their chances of going all the way. Here’s the full draw with the holders Stellenbosch travelling to Limpopo to face Marumo Gallants. Amakhosi will have to reverse a poor recent record against Masandawana, however.
- Richards Bay vs Cape Town City
- Kaizer Chiefs vs Mamelodi Sundowns
- TS Galaxy vs Magesi FC
- Marumo Gallants vs Stellenbosch FC
Will Chiefs get their man in January? More importantly, can they get past Sundowns?
