Former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has praised Gaston Sirino following his immediate impact at Kaizer Chiefs.
The 60-year-old coach was the one who introduced the Uruguayan forward to South African fans in 2018. Unknown to many, Sirino joined Masandawana during the 2017/18 season where he scored three times and made four assists. The following season, the Kaizer Chiefs man scored 15 goals in 38 appearances helping Downs claim another league title.
Under Pitso Mosimane, Sirno scored over 30 goals making him one of Jingles’s trusted players at the time. With Rulani Mokwena taking over, the South American’s form dipped and was often underutilized.
His revival at Chiefs has impressed Pitso Mosimane. When Mosimane was still coaching Al Ahly, he tried to sign Gaston but Mamelodi Sundowns refused to offload the Uruguayan.
Pitso praises ex-player Gaston Sirino
“Class is permanent. Top talent, loves training has a lot of passion for the game and is opinionated,” Mosimane said.
“A bit emotional but manageable. A South American player. He scores goals and has lots of assists, a very crucial ingredient in an attacking player,” he said.
Although Sirino is influential on the field, Pitso touched on his short temper, especially during high-profile games. In the 248 matches he has played, he has received 36 yellow cards and 3 red cards.
So far, the Uruguayan has scored two goals and provided a further three assists for Amakhosi. He was again influential as the Soweto giants destroyed SuperSport United 4-0 in the Carling Knockout Cup this past weekend.
How will Chiefs ensure Sirno is fit each game?
