Why Polokwane City won’t let go of Oswin Appollis as Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns circle.
Appollis remains a key figure for Polokwane City, despite persistent transfer rumours. As January approaches, the likelihood of his departure seems slim. Appollis attracted significant interest during the last transfer window, particularly from MC Alger, who led the chase for the talented winger.
While European clubs have expressed interest, Appollis continues to shine at Polokwane. Recently, he delivered a stellar Man of the Match performance in the Carling Knockout against Marumo Gallants. His form solidifies his spot in the Bafana Bafana squad, where he has made an impact in the last seven matches.
Clubs stance: A firm ‘No’ to offers
Club chairman Johnny Mogaladi remains resolute in his decision to keep Appollis at Polokwane City. Sources confirm that the club has no intention of parting ways with their star player this season, despite the approaching January transfer window.
Interest in Appollis isn’t limited to local clubs like Chiefs and Sundowns; international teams such as Esperance from Tunisia have also shown desire. Appollis’s agent, Lance Davids, revealed on Metro FM’s Sports Night Amplified that clubs were ready to meet the club’s asking price.
“I knew it was going to go to the wire with Oswin, just because of his situation – he was in high demand from North Africa,” Davids explained. “The problem was, in all honesty, they came in with an offer and the club owner accepted the offer and just went offline.”
Challenge of replacement and Appollis value
Appollis’s presence in the national team significantly boosts his status and drives up his market value. Polokwane City recognizes the challenges they would encounter in finding a worthy replacement for such a talented player. Since his move from Pretoria Callies, Appollis’s valuation has skyrocketed tenfold, reflecting his growing importance on both club and national levels.
Polokwane City can look forward to Appollis showcasing his skills in the upcoming match against Sundowns. For now, it appears that He will continue to light up the field for City for the rest of the season.
