Marisha Griffin receives Special Education Foundation grant

Marisha Griffin, SSD social worker in Normandy Schools Collaborative, received a Special Education Foundation (SEF) Classroom Innovation Grant for her project mySELF (my Social Emotional Learning Fulfilled). SEF assists students of all abilities in St. Louis County and its Classroom Innovation Grants provide financial support for projects created by special education teachers.

“The grant will be used to purchase a MetaQuest Virtual Reality Headset,” said Griffin.

“This serves as an interactive approach to integrate sensory-based and trauma-informed interventions for students.”

The headset will allow students to learn about emotions and mental health signs and symptoms.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing students hone in on social emotional learning and get excited about managing their thoughts and feelings in a way,” Griffin added.
