COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – Witnesses testimony is expected to continue Friday in the murder trial of a former Columbus police officer who shot an unarmed man.
The trial against former officer Adam Coy, 48, who is facing charges of murder, reckless homicide and felonious assault in the 2020 death of Andre Hill, 47, has entered its fifth day. After opening statements were completed and the prosecution began presenting its case Thursday, more witnesses are expected to be called to the stand Friday.

Jurors heard from two witnesses for the state. The first was the man who called police about Hill’s car, bringing Coy and his partner to the scene. Next was Coy’s partner, Officer Amy Detweiler, who repeated her earlier claims that she did not see Hill holding a weapon, as Coy mistakenly believed to be the case before he fired. She was on the stand when testimony concluded for the day.
Representing the state is Deputy Chief Counsel Anthony Pierson and Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Renee Amlin with the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office. Coy’s defense team includes attorneys Mark Collins and Kaitlyn Stephens. The judge is Stephen McIntosh of the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas, and the jurors and alternates consist of seven men and nine women, with three being people of color.
