There was an understandably widespread reaction to last week’s announcement that Siya and Rachel Kolisi would be ‘amicably’ ending their marriage, which made headlines across sports and lifestyle publications.
However, Kolisi was able to shift focus back to on-field matters on Saturday as he started at No 8 for the Sharks, and duly produced a highly impressive performance.
After the match, he returned to social media after a brief hiatus, sharing a video of him leaving the field after Saturday’s clash at Kings Park.
“Thank you so much for all the support @sharksrugby family and the people of KZN great to be back here,” he commented after his comeback appearance for the Durban-based side.
On Sunday, he then posted a picture of him sitting alongside teammate and best friend Eben Etzebeth on board an internationally outbound flight as the Springboks headed off on their end-of-year tour.
Siya Kolisi will lead the Springboks on a crucial end-of-year tour
The Springboks have departed for a training camp in Jersey, the largest of the largest of the Channel Islands between England and France. The group will then make the journey to Edinburgh on Sunday 3 November for their opening Test of the tour.
The Boks will face Scotland in Edinburgh (Sunday 10 November), England in London (Saturday 16 November) and Wales in Cardiff (Saturday 23 November) on their traditional end-of-year tour.
Rachel Kolisi has not posted since sharing a joint statement with Siya last Tuesday, which read: “We wanted to share some important news with you. After much reflection and open conversations, we have mutually decided to end our marriage. This decision comes from a place of love, respect, and understanding that this is the best path forward for both of us.
“While our relationship as a couple is changing, we remain great friends and committed partners in raising our children with the same love and care they’ve always known. We will also continue working together on the Foundation that means so much to us.
“We are grateful for the love, understanding, and support you’ve shown us, and we kindly ask for your respect as we navigate this transition.
“With gratitude and love, Siya and Rachel”
