COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – An alleged killer is still on the run three months after 25-year-old Jacob Coons was gunned down over a game of pool at a Franklinton bar. Coons was shot multiple times at Charley’s Place on July 28.
Misty Hall, Jacob Coons’ mother, has been searching and pleading for information about the alleged killer every day since.
Days after the shooting, Columbus Police issued a warrant for 32-year-old Duron Thomas, the man they believe shot Coons. Hall said she knows Thomas is still hiding out nearby in Columbus.
“People call me all the time and say, ‘Hey, he’s been seen here,'” Coons said. “We sent him over there. I was pretty much, maybe 15 feet away from this man, looking at him, sitting on a porch. So I did what I was supposed to do, and I called, you know, the Columbus Police Department.”
Coons’ family is determined to get justice for Jacob. They believe people in Columbus know where Thomas is hiding and are asking them to check their conscience and turn him in.
“We know his family knows where he’s at and it’s just a matter of time that he’s being caught,” Hall said.
She is frustrated that Thomas isn’t behind bars.
“I’m never going to get to see my kid again, ever, ever, and they’re never going to get to see their daddy again,” Hall said. “Five beautiful babies right here that don’t get to see their dad no more.”
Hall believes there is more that can be done to apprehend Thomas. The Columbus Police Department and US Marshals Service are working to find him and arrest him.
“There’s a warrant for this man’s arrest for murder,” Hall said. “How many more people does he have to kill before they really go out and get him?”
The U.S. Marshals Service said it was following leads into Thomas’ location, but he was not yet in custody.
Tomas is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Columbus Police Homicide Unit at 614-645-4730.
