Chidimma Adetshina has been posting up a storm of her adventures abroad ahead of the Miss Universe pageant in a few weeks. This, despite the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) announcing its plans to not only revoke her South African ID and travel documents but criminally prosecute her, too.
The parents of the SA-born 23-year-old model – a Nigerian father and a Mozambican mother – have come under fire over allegations of being illegal immigrants.
Chidimma is set to represent Nigeria at the Miss Universe finale in Mexico on 16 November.
CHIDIMMA LATEST: HOME AFFAIRS REVOKES ID, TRAVEL DOCS, PLANS TO CRIMINALLY PROSECUTE
In a bombshell announcement, the Department of Home Affairs claimed that it would be proceeding with criminal charges against Chidimma Adetshina and her mother.
This after the mother and daughter failed to prove their case by the deadline of Monday, 28 October.
“We’ve done our investigations. We went through due process, we gave her an opportunity to make representation [and this] was not done,” DHA spokesman Njabulo Nzuza said.
Chidimma and her mother’s ID and travel documents have since been seized. The case has been handed over to the Hawks.
MISS UNIVERSE BOUND
Despite the news that her SA ID had been compromised and that she was now facing criminal charges, Chidimma Adetshina continued to post about her travels.
Earlier this week, the beauty queen – who dropped out of Miss SA to enter Miss Universe Nigeria, which she won – left her father’s country of birth to tour abroad. This included a stop in LA before embarking on a trip to Mexico, where she will compete at Miss Universe.
The global pageant takes place on 16 November, and according to reports, Chidimma is already a favourite to win.
Posting on her Instagram shortly after the DHA’s report, the pageant hopeful shared: “UNIVERSE; IT’S TIME.
“As I catch the next flight to Mexico, I am overwhelmed by the love and support I have received on this journey”.
Chidimma also thanked her followers for her support.
‘I DID NOT STEAL ANYONE’S IDENTITY’
Speaking to Arise News in September, Chidimma Adetshina hinted at the DHA investigation.
She said: “I’ve avoided the questions because it is a legal matter, and I do not have all the facts. But what I can say is that I was not running away from [anything that happened]”.
She continued: “I did not steal anyone’s identity. I’m still waiting for the conclusion on the case. Moving forward, I will know what to say”.
