Kaizer Chiefs news: Two fan-favourites set for contract renewals

Kaizer Chiefs are preparing contract extensions.

According to reports, club captain Yusuf Maart and Njabulo Blom will receive contract renewals.

The Glamour Boys are in a spot of bother after losing Edson Castillo in their 1-0 loss to SuperSport United – they now sit ninth on the log, nine points behind league leaders Orlando Pirates.

Tunisian tactician Nasreddine Nabi seemed to have it all sorted out before his side’s second league loss in four games, reminding onlookers that they are still rebuilding from their 10th place finish last year.

Maart and Blom

“Coach [Nasreddine] Nabi is happy with Maart’s contribution and considers him as one of the leaders in the team, so he has recommended that the club give him a new deal….I hear it’s a two-year deal with an option to renew for a further year,” an anonymous source told The Citizen.

“It’s a combined feeling at the club that they would still need Njabulo (Blom) next season,

“The coach made it clear when he came. That he has an important role to play at the club, and that’s why they are looking at keeping him beyond the loan deal, which expires in June,” the source concluded.

Nabi wants more players

It seems Nabi wants a complete rehaul of players following seven signings in the winter and publicly stating his desire to bring in more during the summer with big names.

Asanele Velebayi, Oswin Appollis and Michael Olunga are each linked with the Soweto outfit.

“We’re still looking for more players in different positions,” Nabi said.

“We not going to recruit all players in the world, but we are still identifying the places where we need them, yes.”

“We’re going forward to get more players before the closing window.”
