Halloween is right around the corner and we are ALL struggling to find THE perfect costume. No one wants to be basic and go as a devil for the third year in a row, but there’s also the risk of going too niche. Finding the perfect Halloween costume is HARD. Especially when your Shein orders won’t arrive in time and nothing looks like it did in your vision. So, here’s a lit of Halloween costumes ALL students can relate to that are simple yet creative. Enjoy.
1. The 3am fire alarm
The most annoying uni experience known to every uni student. The 3am fire alarm. For this costume, all you need is some red, orange, yellow clothes (for the fire) but with a dressing gown on and slippers to show that it’s 3am.
2. Silverfish
I’ve seen some people do this and I think it’s such a good costume. Simply get a group of your friends and go as the silverfish found in your accommodation. All you need is a silver metallic top paired with a glittery, silver skirt and some sliver antennas. Perfect.
3. Angry landlord
For this costume, all you’ll need is frown lines on your forehead, a big, baggy blazer and walk around with a sign that reads “RENT NOW!”. Everyone will truly be terrified.
4. Pesto pasta
Aren’t we all SICK of this by now? Seeing my housemates make this genuinely gives me chills. This costume could be a cute duo costume. Someone go as green pesto pasta and the other goes as red pesto pasta. All you’ll need is all green or red clothes and maybe a picture of pasta on you. Simple and easy, like pesto pasta.
5. £5 pints
The one everyone loves, a £5 pint. You can either go all out and dress up as an actual pint or you could cover yourself in beer logos and fake £5 notes. It’s original.
6. Freshers’ Flu
This is a uni experience that all students know far too well. The infamous Freshers’ Flu. For this costume, you can wear those long night gowns, night caps and carry around multiple packs of Kleenex tissues. Bonus points if you drink out of a mug all night.
7. Hangovers
This is a costume that you will certainly be feeling in the morning after Halloween. To dress as a “hangover”, you’ll need to wear the scruffiest set of pjs or wear an outfit and pretend it’s the clothes from “the night before”. You’ll need messy makeup, mascara under the eyes and smudged lipstick. Also, your hair needs to be tied up and backcombed. The messier, the better.
8. Shark
Now…this one is for the ones who we know are sharking on the freshers. For this, wear all grey and DIY your own shark fins. People will think you’re Jaws but you’re actually impersonating those weird third year sharks you know about…
9. Chunder
Like the hangover costume, this one needs to be even MESSIER. For this, you’ll need to wear all green and carry around a sick bag. This will be a fun one if you’re known as the liability on nights out.
10. Rugby lads
This one would be super funny for the girlies. Simply find some shorts, an oversized sports shirt and wear a wig. To make it better, buy a fake moustache and wear fake Signet rings. Be sure to also nail the accent.
11. Mould
This costume would be quite creative. You can wear grey and black with blue dots. For a duo costume, get your friend to go as a painter as we all know the landlords love to just paint over mould rather than fix the actual issue x
12. Your fave lecturer
You could go as your favourite lecturer or your least favourite. Either way, you’ll need to just cosplay on what they wear. Yeah, you may have to keep telling everyone who you’re dressed as, but your course friends will know the joke.
13. An assignment
Now, this costume could be quite cool and creative. For this costume, you could wear a plain shirt with your printed essays all over you. Or you could just write gibberish on yourself with a sharpie.
14. Graduate
This costume could work as a cute manifestation for all the undergrads. You could pretend you’re dressing up as High School Musical three?
15. Silly fresh
This is the one for those who want to relive their silly fresher title. For this costume, you could wear your old first year outfits, wear a bunch of fake club wristbands, wear some weird festival props and have a sign that asks people “what’s your name? What halls are you in? What degree are you doing?”.
16. Dirty dishes
I think this one can be hard but I’m sure there are some fancy dress places that sell actual plate costumes, knife and fork costumes etc. All you’ll need to do is draw some specs of food and there you have it. Or, you could carry some plates and wear brown clothes.
17. Traffic cone
Like the silly fresh, you can relive your Freshers’ Week by dressing up as a traffic cone. If you go back to someone’s flat and you see this – run. You can buy a traffic cone costume or could wear neon orange with metallic silver.
18. UNiDAYS/student discount
The one thing uni students LOVE is a student discount – but this does mean that your student finance takes a hit. So, to pay homage to our beloved UNiDAYS, you could wear the logo’s colours of green and white. Or, you could have fake voucher printed on you.
19. Crying in the library
Crying in the library is an experience EVERY uni student has gone through. For this costume, wear all black (like your mourning), have mascara running down your cheeks and carry around some library books.
20. Your favourite club
This costume could be quite simple – although might bring back some haunting memories. You could easily wear your favourite clubbing outfit and print out your favourite uni club. It would be more recognisable if you decided to do wordplay with the club name.
21. Your degree
A simple one, seeing as it’s your whole personality now anyway. You always see those “dress as your degree” themed parties. So why not take this for your Halloween costume? You could wear a nurse outfit for medical sciences, a librarian outfit for English, football kit for sports science and Shakespeare for drama.
22. A well-known street in your uni town
This would be quite a niche costume but could be quite iconic if there is an infamous street in your uni city – but wherever it is, it holds some core memories, most which you’d rather forget. All you’ll need to do is to dress as the vibes of the street and carry a sign that says the street name. It would look better if you and your mates all went as different street.
23. A vape
A vape would be a simple but funny outfit and would pay homage to the harrowing disposable vape ban soon to come. You would need colourful clothes and have 600 puffs written on your hip with a Lost Mary or Elf Bar logo on the other. It would be even funnier if you carried around a torch and flashed it – making you a dying vape.
24. Your ex situationship
Again, this costume would be playing off the “dress as your type” themed party – but scarier. You would need to wear big baggy boy clothes and copy what your ex situationship wore. Or, you could go as a bin bag because your ex is trash x
25. Your uni friends
One of the easiest uni Halloween costumes, this would be fun to do with your group of uni friends where you all dress as each other. It would be a funny but wholesome costume where you can poke fun at each other but also appreciate how well your friends know you. Warning: This may go south quickly.
26. Cheesy chips
Last but not least, the alarming amount of cheesy chips we students eat. This can be a duo costume where someone goes as cheese and the other as chips. Or, you could do a group costume with the chips, cheese, ketchup, garlic mayo and someone else dressed as the kebab shop owner. You will certainly turn heads at your Halloween parties.
