Former Springbok ace Jaque Fourie carved his name in rugby history as one of the greatest midfielders of the modern era.
WHO IS JAQUE FOURIE? CAREER OVERVIEW
Jaque Fourie is one of the most decorated and accomplished rugby players South Africa has ever produced. And he is one the greatest — if not the greatest — outside centres in Springbok history.
Regarded as one of the finest centres of his generation, Fourie was a powerful presence in midfield for the both Stormers and Springboks throughout his career.
Fourie was always a threat on the gainline, but he was also blessed with plenty of pace and an exceptional rugby brain.
Between 2010 and 2011, Fourie helped marshal the Springboks, Stormers, and Western Province defensive lines while posing a threat with ball in hand alongside fellow midfielder Jean de Villiers.
Capped 72 times by the Springboks, Fourie played Test rugby from 2003 to 2014, and featured at three Rugby World Cups, including the South Africa’s title-winning campaign in France in 2007.
At club level, he played for the Kobelco Steelers in Japan from 2011-2017 where he helped with the defense of the team.
WHAT IS THE SPRINGBOK GREAT DOING NOW?
The Springbok centre called time his playing days in 2018 and almost immediately joined the Western Force in Australia as a full-time defence coach.
In 2019, Fourie was appointed was defence coach of the USA Men’s Eagles team, where he worked under Gary Gold who served as the head coach at the time.
The former Springbok returned to South African rugby and is currently serving as defence coach with the Lions, a role he took up in 2021 after several seasons honing his craft in the Far East.
