Former Kaizer Chiefs star is ready for a new PSL club, according to iDiski digital newspaper.
Dolly, the ex-Chiefs and Bafana Bafana winger, remains poised for his next career chapter amid growing interest from various clubs. At just 31 years old, Dolly’s journey has taken an unexpected turn, but he is ready to seize new opportunities.
Dolly’s release from Kaizer Chiefs surprised many fans and analysts. Despite initial discussions about a contract extension, the club decided to part ways with him after he logged only eight appearances in the 2023/2024 season. Although his playing time dipped, Dolly finished his time at Chiefs with impressive stats: 14 goals and 11 assists in just 67 matches. This performance surpassed his previous record at Mamelodi Sundowns, where he netted 10 goals and 11 assists in 61 appearances before moving to Montpellier.
Legacy of success at Sundowns
When reflecting on his career, few can dispute that Dolly’s most significant achievements came during his tenure at Mamelodi Sundowns. He played a crucial role in winning the CAF Champions League, the league title, and the Telkom Knockout. Teaming up with Leonardo Castro and Khama Billiat, he formed one of the finest attacking trios in South African football. In contrast, his time at Kaizer Chiefs lacked silverware, contributing to the club’s decade-long trophy drought.
After his departure, Dolly quickly engaged with SuperSport United. However, CEO Stan Mathews confirmed the club could only sign one of two players, ultimately opting for former Orlando Pirates winger Vincent Pule. Since then, Dolly has attracted inquiries from several Premier Soccer League teams and clubs abroad, keeping his fitness in check by training on his own after recovering from a broken toe.
Dolly’s Agency insights
“Keagan Dolly has had some good interest, but we have not found the right opportunity that ticks all the boxes for him,” a representative from Siyavuma Sports Group stated. “We had agreed on a deal in principle and he passed his medical for one club, but unfortunately, that deal fell through at the last stage.”
The agency emphasised Dolly’s readiness: “Keagz is a top professional; he’s ready to go, and we are sure the right opportunity will present itself soon. He is in great shape and eager to get back on the training pitch.”
Overcoming challenges and looking ahead
Dolly’s journey at Kaizer Chiefs had its ups and downs. His agency noted, “Contrary to what social media sometimes likes to say, Keagan’s data overall at KC was very good, especially in his first two seasons.” Injuries, including a knee issue followed by a broken toe, hampered his performance last season. As his representatives pointed out, “You can’t play football with a broken toe.”
