I tried dupes for the £479 Dyson airwrap, TikTok’s £27 curler was so easy to use but Revlon’s tool held a curl for HOURS

IF, like me, you spend your days scrolling through TikTok videos, then you’ve no doubt seen the Dyson Airwrap in action.

It seems everyone and their mum has the viral hair tool with over 3.7 billion views and counting on TikTok, but at £479, it’s a little out of my price range.

Despite not having the funds for the real deal, I was determined to get my hands on something similar so I could have an effortless blow out in the comfort of my own home.

Fortunately many brand shave created dupes of the must-have styling tool, and I tried Revlon’s newest offer as well as a TikTok buy to see which one worked the best.

Both are significantly cheaper than the Dyson but are certainly in different price points with the Revlon One-Step Blow-Dry Multi Air Styler 5-in-1 costing £79.99 and the TikTok 5-in-1 Hair Styler costing £27.65.

Both come with five different attachments to create various hairstyles and dry the hair, here, I share my thoughts.

Hair type

For reference, my hair is medium to long in length and thick, it often takes me around half an hour to dry it with a hairdryer and it leans on the coarse side, meaning it easily gets dry, frizzy and knotty.

The Revlon comes in at £79.99 and has five attachments[/caption]

The Revlon blow dryer brush went viral on social media with over 85 million views on the app, but now they’ve added more attachments to the mix.

Attachments include the blow drying brush, root dryer, paddle brush to smooth, a volumising oval brush, round brush and curler with four temperature settings.

One thing to note is how loud and heavy the Revlon styler is, when I used it to dry my hair it was just as loud as my hair dryer and left my arm aching after five minutes.

The blow drying brush is great for drying hair in large sections but because it’s so large, you have to use the root dryer to get in to the scalp after.

After it had dried I moved on to use the curler attachment, it took a few times to get the hang of it and keep a curl but once I did it was easy to use and I had nice tousled waves – exactly the look I go for.

One thing to note was that I found it hard to get the clip on attachments off of the handle – not because they were too tight, but because they were so hot to touch.

I also found that the heat made my hair frizzy in certain places so I had to apply a gloss afterwards to tone it down.

It also doesn’t work exactly like the Dyson Airwrap – which blows hot air all through out the attachment to create a holding style.

The Revlon brush seems to have hot air blowing out of the attachment – heating it up in the process but not using the air to grab onto your locks.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that hours later my hair still held a curl and it did make the hair styling process much easier than usual.

The TikTok shop has five attachments as well which look much similar to Dyson’s[/caption]

Buying on TikTok shop is something that as a millennial quite frankly scares me but for the sake of research (and not being able to get my hands on the viral £19.99 Elle hair styling tool from B&M) I decided to bite the bullet.

It’s currently on sale for £27 and regularly has offers on, so when I got the box I wasn’t expecting to be blown away.

However, once I did I was stunned to see just similar the attachments were to the Dyson Airwrap with it’s circular drying attachment, round brush, curling wands and straightening comb.

Once I attached the dryer onto the handle (which was slightly more difficult to slot in than the Revlon tool) I was happily surprised to hear it wasn’t too loud and was really lightweight for a hair tool.

The smaller dryer head meant I could get close to the scalp and my hair dried relatively quickly without getting too knotty (something that often happens with my hair dryer).

My hair also didn’t look too frizzy once dried which barely ever happens and I went in with the curling wand.

It works similarly to the Dyson – by using the hot air to wrap your hair around it and keep it in place.

Best Dyson Airwrap alternatives you can find on Amazon?

There are plenty of affordable alternatives to shop instead of the Dyson Airwrap from various retailers.

Amazon is a great shopping destination to head to, as it has a variety of brands stocked online, which means even more choice, and affordable dupes too.

I liked the curls on this – but I did find they dropped out pretty quickly even though it take ten minutes to do just one side of my head.

Final thoughts

Both of these hair tools worked well – I did find that Revlon’s held a curl for longer but was trickier to get the hang of.

I also found it that it would get very hot, too hot, to the point where it was painful to take the attachments off and left my hair frizzy.

Whereas, the TikTok one was much easier to use, I found it didn’t hold a curl quite as well, but was more of a ‘real’ dupe to the Dyson.

Depending on your budget, both are a good option, however for price and easy of use I’d go with the TikTok styler.
