COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is releasing footage Monday of a shooting in Gahanna, where an arrest warrant was being served.
The sheriff’s office announced that body-worn camera video from the Oct. 30 shooting, which happened at 825 Tech Center Dr., would be released at an 11 a.m. press conference. The incident stemmed from a SWAT unit arriving at a building which is being renovated into the new Gahanna Municipal Complex. While an arrest warrant was being served, a conflict arose between the suspect and deputies.
The suspect was shot and hospitalized in critical condition, though the injury appeared to be non-life threatening, the sheriff’s office said. Deputies recovered a gun at the scene but provided little information as to what led to the shooting.
It was confirmed that the warrant was being served for undisclosed misdemeanor crimes.
“We evaluate these based on sort of what’s referred to as a risk assessment to the situation, where we’re at, what state of mind the person is in, and we try to send the resources that we think that will deal with the situation in the most appropriate manner possible and that includes the safest way,” Franklin County Chief Deputy Rick Minerd said last week.
No deputies were injured during the incident, and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation was called to investigate the shooting.
