Kaizer Chiefs are still the most successful team in the MTN8 despite Orlando Pirates‘ recent success.
The Buccaneers have won the competition three times in the past four seasons but are still behind Amakhosi. The Glamour Boys have won the competition 15 times, while Pirates have secured it on 12 occasions.
Jose Riveiro‘s side have a chance to make history this weekend. They face Stellenbosch in the MTN8 final at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday evening.
Orlando Pirates vs Stellenbosch in the MTN8 final
The Buccaneers have won the MTN8 back-to-back however, no Premier Soccer League side has managed to win it three times in a row. Orlando Pirates winger Deon Hotto is aware that no team has won the MTN8 title three times in a row.
“It’s going to be something very amazing because it’s going to be the third time in a row,” he said ahead of the final.
“I don’t think there’s a club that has done that. It’s something that we would cherish for the rest of our lives.
“Definitely, we will give our best. We just need to be on our toes, our minds in the game, because we have a good team, no, I don’t think there’s pressure,” Hotto added.
Orlando Pirates are unbeaten in 12 matches this season and go into the MTN8 final as favourites. Hotto has maintained that there is no pressure.
“The only thing we have to do is just wait for Saturday, be ready for the match. We need to get our minds focused on the match. The only thing is to get our mindset right.”
