Chelsea’s 6-2 demolition of Wolves at Molineux was headlined by Cole Palmer’s brilliantly executed lob. In a season where Enzo Maresca has tried to rebuild Chelsea’s attacking identity, the England midfielder has emerged as a key figure.
Spotting the goalkeeper, Jose Sa, off his line, Palmer chipped the ball with pinpoint precision, leaving the Wolves fans stunned, as Noni Madueke ran riot and scored a hat-trick to get Maresca’s travelling band up and running.
Yves Bissouma – Tottenham Hotspur vs Everton
Yves Bissouma’s goal against Everton was one of pure power and precision. In Tottenham’s commanding 4-0 win, Bissouma unleashed a ferocious strike from just outside the box, smashing the ball in off the crossbar.
The move began with a simple cutback, but the midfielder’s first-time finish was something special. Everton’s defence could do nothing but watch as the ball cannoned in – the perfect response for Ange Postecoglou’s side after an opening weekend draw to newly promoted Leicester City.
Mateo Kovacic – Manchester City vs Chelsea
Against his former club, Mateo Kovacic delivered a moment of brilliance for Manchester City in a way that reminded everyone of his quality.
Perhaps overlooked at times during his spell at Chelsea, Kovacic made sure to remind the Stamford Bridge faithful of what they had lost, as he doubled the defending champions’ lead with a great effort after Erling Haaland opened the scoring in west London.
Picking up the ball just beyond his own half, Kovacic drove forward with purpose, leaving defenders trailing in his wake. As he approached the edge of the box, he bent the ball into the far corner with a stunning finish that gave Robert Sánchez no chance, earning City all three points.
Luis Diaz vs Brentford
Arne Slot is the new Liverpool manager this season, but the Reds rolled back the years in a great counter-attacking display for Luis Diaz’s goal against Brentford.
The Reds have focused on a more controlled style of play throughout the games played so far, but this particular goal was all about speed and precision.
Diogo Jota’s fine through ball sent Diaz racing past the Brentford defence. The Colombian, who struggled with form last season after injury troubles, showed none of those issues as he calmly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper on the break.
It was a clinical finish that underscored Diaz’s resurgence this season, and if he continues this form, he could well earn his best goal tally at Anfield so far.
Jean-Ricner Bellegarde vs Nottingham Forest
Jean-Ricner Bellegarde has gone under the radar at times for Wolves, but his long-range strike against Nottingham Forest was the perfect example of his technical ability.
With the Black Country outfit trailing to an early Chris Wood goal, Bellegarde stepped up two minutes later to deliver a spectacular equaliser.
