Swadley’s BBQ co-founder pens letter, claims legal battle is ‘personal’

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — Swadley’s BBQ co-founder Brent Swadley, who was indicted along with two others for conspiracy to defraud the state, sent out a letter on Thursday morning, claiming that the legal battle stems from “personal political conflicts.”

Swadley specifically names Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond in the letter, saying that Drummond is “pushing a false, politically motivated narrative” as he prepares for a presumed run for governor.

Drummond, however, has not announced any intentions to run for governor in the 2026 election.

Swadley, along with Curtis Breuklander and Timothy Hooper, was indicted in February for allegedly overcharging the state as part of a contract between Swadley’s BBQ and the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department in 2022.

The full letter can be read below.

Drummond sent News 4 the following statement in response to Swadley’s letter.

Mr. Swadley will certainly have his day in court to make his case. In the meantime, I will continue to aggressively prosecute anyone who defrauds Oklahoma taxpayers.
