WILLIES MCHUNU RESIGNS FROM THE ANC

SABC News reported that Mchunu who previously served as an MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison wrote to Ward 33 branch secretary in eThekwini, to inform about his decision.

In the letter, Mchunu said he believes that he can no longer add value to the ANC due to its current political trajectory.

Further, the former premier said he has heavily criticised after expressing his opinion about the formation of the Government of National Unity (GNU) after the historic 29 May elections where the ANC polled below 50% for the first time since 1994.

He added that he has lost hope in the ANC’s commitment to pursue the National Democratic Revolution in the interest of the working class and the poor.

In 2019, Mchunu sparked concerns after the KZN state of the province address for 2019 was cut short Mchunu collapsed while giving his address.

FORMER PREMIER WEIGHS ON BAD REMARKS ON PRAVIN GORDHAN

In his last public appearance, the 76-year-old lashed out at those he said are tarnishing the late struggle stalwart and former member of Parliament Pravin Gordhan.

Mchunu said

“The ANC has the duty and responsibility to be the forefront of the defence of the image of comrade PG. Those who are attacking PG are selectively choosing what they want to use, they’re saying nothing about his struggle credentials. The silence about that and the silence about his contribution to many good programmes of governance but are choosing to attack what I would refer to as the direction that the ANC is taking in government,” Mchunu said.
