After months of build-up, Halsey finally dropped her new album The Great Impersonator. Some of the songs are so emotional, I wouldn’t recommend listening without tissues at the ready. Loads of the lyrics seems to be referencing past and current relationships, so here are Halsey’s boyfriends who she seems to be singing about on The Great Impersonator.
Alev Aydin
So, Alev Aydin is a filmmaker who wrote the TV shows Small Shots and Turbo and Joey. Halsey started dating him at some point before June 2020, because the couple got matching tattoos then.
The couple were very loved-up in that era, and posted lots of Insta pics together. Alev directed and starred in the music video for Halsey’s 2022 song So Good. The video features real clips and photos from their relationship.
Thier son Ender Ridley was born in 2021. In April 2023, it became obvious the couple had split. Billboard found court documents in which Halsey requested full physical contact of Ender, so he could go on tour with them.
The lyrics of Lucky seem to be referencing this break-up. Halsey sings, “Became a single mom at my premiere /And I told everybody I was fine for a whole damn year / And that’s the biggest lie of my career.”
Halsey went to the premiere of Americana, a thriller film she was in with Sydney Sweeney, on 17th March 2023. It would make sense with the timeline if something happened at this premiere which led to their break-up.
The song I Never Loved You seems to be about cheating? This is the vibe I got from “You drove off screaming on the night you were caught / You left me standing in the parking lot.” So this could also be about a past relationship.
Avan Jogia
The second of the boyfriends Halsey seems to be singing about on The Great Impersonator is Avan Jogia, a 32-year-old actor. He was Beck Oliver in Victorious, and has been in a few horror movies since. They were seen on a beach in Barcelona in June 2023, then were were spotted snogging in the street in Los Angeles back in October 2023.
Halsey seems to be speaking to their new boyfriend in the extra heart-wrenching ballad The End. The chorus goes, “If you knew it was the end of the world, could you love me like a child? / Could you hold me in the dark?”
The answer seems to be yes, because Halsey casually dropped they were engaged on X in August.
