Brink to be reinstated or Tshwane will have a new mayor?

The City of Tshwane council is expected to elect a new mayor on Wednesday, 9 October following the ousting of Cilliers Brink from the Democratic Alliance (DA).

The metro municipality has been without a mayor since 26 September and the question on everybody’s lips is will Brink be reinstated as the DA plans to field him as a candidate or will the metro have a new mayor?

CITY OF TSHWANE TO HAVE A NEW MAYOR?

As previously reported, Brink was ousted via a no confidence motion that was tabled by the African National Congress (ANC) and supported by ActionSA and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).

A total of 120 councillors voted in favour of Brink’s removal while 87 voted against and one abstained.

ActionSA which had vowed to never work with the ANC changed its mind and the two parties have also partnered in the City of Johannesburg.

Following Brink’s ousting, ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba said they would field the current deputy mayor Nasiphi Moya from his party as he feels that she is a better candidate compared to all the other councillors in the metro. However, the ANC will reportedly field Kgosi Maepa.

On the other hand, the DA said it will field Brink as a mayoral candidate so “he can continue the good work in the metro”.

DA Gauteng leader Solly Msimanga blamed the anti-Government of National Unity (GNU) faction of the ANC for Brink’s removal.

Msimanga said the faction it is clear that the faction is gaining the upper hand in the party.

DO YOU THINK CILLIERS BRINK WILL BE REINSTATED AS MAYOR OR WILL ACTIONSA’S NASIPHI MOYA LEAD THE METRO?
