Cape Town City star Emile Witbooi is on the brink of an exciting opportunity as he travels to the United Kingdom for an assessment with Premier League giants Chelsea Football Club, according to iDiski Times.

This move could mark a significant step in the young midfielder’s burgeoning career.

Witbooi joined City in January from the School of Excellence and quickly made a name for himself, receiving his first national team call-up early last year. He represented South Africa’s U15 team at the UEFA U16 International Development Tournament, showcasing his potential on an international stage.

The 16-year-old sensation has received numerous accolades, including being named Midfielder of the Tournament and Player of the Tournament during the SAFA U15 inter-provincial tournament. He further solidified his reputation by winning Player of the Tournament at the U19 Bayhill Premier Cup held in Cape Town.

Since joining Cape Town City, Witbooi has made remarkable progress, recently helping the South African U20 team secure victory at the COSAFA Cup U20 tournament, which also qualified them for the U20 AFCON next year.

Stellar performances in the DStv Diski Challenge

Witbooi has proven to be a standout performer in the DStv Diski Challenge for Cape Town City, drawing attention for his skill and determination. Witbooi will begin a month-long assessment at Chelsea with hopes of securing a permanent move to the club.

Cape Town Spurs update: Erasmus leaves Training

In other news, Cape Town Spurs head coach Ernst Middendorp has confirmed that former Orlando Pirates striker Kermit Erasmus is no longer training with the club.

Erasmus, 34, left Orlando Pirates after his contract expired at the end of last season, having enjoyed two successful campaigns that included two MTN8 trophies and a Nedbank Cup trophy. He has remained a free agent after a potential move to Cape Town City did not materialise.

Erasmus trained with Cape Town Spurs but departed after just a week due to disagreements over a new contract.

Middendorp shares insights on situation

In an interview with Thabiso Mosia on Radio2000, Middendorp explained the situation regarding Erasmus and the Urban Warriors. “He was here for some days, but everybody has to understand he is a PSL player, and I could see he still has a clear target and direction,” Middendorp stated.

“We allowed him to train for a week. But it was clear that it wasn’t going to happen for him to join the team. I think you cannot have a rehabilitation centre where someone gets fit and then runs away.”

Middendorp emphasised the need for clarity and commitment. By referencing a past situation with Thato Mokeke, who only became a viable player for the team months after starting with them.

As Emile Witbooi pursues his dream with Chelsea. The South African football scene continues to evolve with significant movements both on and off the field.
