Cape Town Spurs head coach Ernst Middendorp has confirmed the club’s decision not to sign Kermit Erasmus.
According to Middendorp, Spurs did allow Erasmus to train for a week before the former Bafana Bafana frontman left.
However, Spurs never had any intention to sign Erasmus as they feel he belongs to the Betway Premiership and not Motsepe Foundation Championship.
In his view, Middendorp doesn’t want a situation where Spurs give players a chance but jump at any PSL opportunity that presents itself.
Erasmus is currently a free agent following his departure from Orlando Pirates at the end of last season.
He had joined Pirates from Mamelodi Sundowns in a shock transfer deadline day two seasons ago.
The 34-year-old scored 26 goals and registered 19 assists in 117 competitive matches for Pirates over two spells.
CAPE TOWN SPURS REJECT ERASMUS
“He was here for some days but everybody has to understand he is a PSL player and I could see still he has a clear target, a clear direction,” Middendorp told Thabiso Mosia on Radio2000 as per iDiski Times.
“We allowed him to train for a week [but] it was not really going to happen that he will be part of the team.
“I think you cannot have a rehabilitation centre or condition centre where somebody gets fit and runs away.
“We had it in the near past, we had Thato Mokeke last year starting with us in January and we could use him earliest as April and played a couple of friendlies before moving on.”
