COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — After an Ohio State University student was caught on camera taking off with his roommate’s cat in a plastic bag, the feline has been found alive and reunited with her owners.
Mohd Zaini said Wednesday evening that someone found her missing cat Mindy alive in Dublin, 11 miles away from the home the cat disappeared from in a plastic bag. The person who located Mindy took her to a vet to check for a microchip, and they contacted Zaini from there.
Mindy’s owner said she’s noticed some health issues as a result of the stress, but is hoping for a full recovery.
“She sleeps a lot, not eating and not playful as she used to be,” Zaini said. “She also has a scar on her forehead.”
On Sept. 27, around 11:30 p.m., Zaini said she and her boyfriend became concerned when they could not find their cat. Mindy wore a collar with a tracker, so the pair were able to pinpoint her location about half a mile north of the house. They located the collar in a trash can, but Mindy was nowhere to be found.
A neighbor’s security camera caught a person who Zaini identified as her boyfriend’s roommate with the cat. In the video, the person placed Mindy in what appeared to be a plastic grocery bag. While the view was obstructed by a porch railing, he messed with the bag for about 10 seconds as the animal cried.
Columbus Humane told NBC4 its investigation into the incident remained open and ongoing as of Thursday.
