I was slapped with THREE parking fines despite having my blue badge on display – I’ve never had to cough up fees before

A PENSIONER has been slapped with three parking fines despite having his blue badge on display.

Daniel Spencer, 83, has been forced to fork out £200 after he left his motor in a spot near to Bolton Market.

The grandad claims he’s parked on the street and displayed his disability badge multiple times over the years with no problems.

But a parking meter was introduced in August this year – fining anyone who hasn’t paid, even with a badge.

Daniel slammed the change for “not being clearly advertised” – as others also complain.

He told BoltonNews: “I have parked on this road on numerous occasions over the years with my badge displayed without any problem or requirement for payment, so with that in mind I assumed the letter I received may be a scam and my granddaughter helped me appeal it instead of paying the fine.”

After hearing nothing back, Daniel drove down to check out the new system which only accepts payments through an app.

It was there he was palmed off by workers in the office who informed him the company was private and there wasn’t much they could do about the fines.

He added: “You must pay for parking via the app, which is inaccessible to pensioners and people who aren’t online, they don’t use the internet.”

And in the time he waited to hear back about his appeal, two more fines were posted through Daniel’s letterbox even though his badge continued to be displayed.

Bolton Council has said Daniel isn’t the only one to complain about the new payment system in the months since.

A spokesperson said: “The market car park on Ashburner Street is operated by NCP and accepts payment by cash, card or via the app.

“We’ve received a few complaints about Blue Badge users having to pay on the site as they thought it was free parking, which isn’t the case.

“Free parking is available around the town centre for Blue Badge users in any pay and display on-street parking bay, as well as the disabled bays located in the town centre.”

NCP, who now run the car park said blue badge holders must still pay for parking – and there is more than one way to pay for it.

They said: “We can confirm that blue badge holders do need to pay for their parking when parking at Ashburner Street.

“They are allowed to use the disabled bays as long as they have displayed their blue badge permit, and they have paid for their parking.

“We can also confirm that there are four different ways to pay for their parking on this site.

“They can pay by cash or card, they can pay by phone, or they can pay by App.

“There are two payment machines on site and one of those machines is very close to the disabled bays.

“Although blue badge holders do need to pay for their parking on this site, they are able to park at no cost in one of our 12 disabled bays provided on our Octagon surface site car park for up to three hours, as long as they display their blue badge permit.”

Outrageous cost of pint at Premier League stadiums in 2030 predicted with fans to be hit in the pockets

West Ham and Arsenal currently have the most expensive pints in the top division.

On average the rivals charge £7.57 on each pint, which is an increase of £1.27 since 2022.

A recent assessment of the current prices across all the grounds and the average inflation rate could shock some match-going supporters.

Football shirt retailer UKSoccerShop has claimed that in six years, many clubs will be sharing at least £10 per pint.

The study claims that fans at the Emirates and the London Stadium will have to fork out £13.12 per pint.

The Hammers also have the most expensive pie prices in the Premier League.

Other London grounds will also be pricey, with only Brentford‘s Gtech Community stadium charging less than a tenner.

In 2030, a pint at the Bees’ venue will cost £8.33 which is up from the current average price of £4.80.

Up and down the country, prices will vary, but London will remain the most expensive.

In Manchester, prices will almost hit £10 per pint with the Etihad expected to reach £9.58.

However, at Old Trafford, the price will only be £6.25, which will make it one of the cheapest in the Premier League.

Teams that would be charging over £10 include the likes of Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, Fulham, Chelsea and Nottingham Forest.

The study was based on the inflation rate of alcoholic drinks in data collected by the Office for National Statistics.

A spokesperson from UKSoccerShop said: “Drinkflation is on the rise.

“With UK households feeling the cost of living squeeze, hospitality services trying to work around spiralling costs, with some choosing to serve weaker beer.

“It’s likely to affect our stadiums, too.

“Using inflation figures from the ONS, we can estimate what prices football fans could pay for a match day pint.

“We found that over £6 could become the norm up north and over £10 in London – some may even get closer to £15 by the end of 2030.”

Android owners must swap hidden setting before letting anyone touch phone – never hand it over until you’ve made change

DON’T just hand your Android phone to friends, family, or colleagues without changing some key settings first.

It might seem harmless – but you don’t want to risk them trawling through your personal info.

Google / Android
You can access guest profiles by going into your phone’s settings[/caption]

Thankfully Google has built a special guest profile feature into Android.

It means that you can very quickly and easily toggle to a locked-down version of your phone that’s fine for other people to use.

Google explains: “A guest profile is for someone using your device for a short time.

“Like a user, the guest profile has its own space on the device, but it’s easier to delete this space when a guest is done with the device.”

Google says that the guest user won’t be able to access all of the info on your phone.

HOW TO SWITCH TO GUEST USER ON ANDROID

First open up your Quick Settings menu.

Typically that means simply swiping down from the top of your screen.

You may need to swipe down a second time to access the full roster of Quick Settings.

Then simply tap on the User icon and then choose Add Guest.

Once you’ve created a guest, you’ll be able to return to the profile again in the future.

When you want to create a profile for a new guest, choose Start Over.

Or you can tap Yes, Continue to keep using the previous guest session.

Once a guest session is done, just go back into Quick Settings, tap on User, then select Remove Guest > Remove.

This will delete all of the data from the guest that was using your phone.

Guest Profiles are available even on very old versions of Android[/caption]

HOW DO GUESTS WORK

Guests are like limited versions of regular Android user profiles.

So you can quickly set them up – and remove them just as easily.

They can sign into their own Google accounts, and use apps like Chrome or YouTube without logging in.

A guest won’t be able to see your personal or private info.

TRY A CHILD ACCOUNT TOO

You might not actually need a Guest User account – if you have a kid using an Android device then maybe a Child User is what you're looking for...

Here’s Google’s official guide:

You can create a Google Account for your child under 13 (or the applicable age in your country) and manage your child’s Google Account with Family Link.

With a supervised Google Account, your child gets access to Google products like Search, Chrome, and Gmail. You can set up parental controls to help supervise them.

It takes about 15 minutes to create your child’s Google Account.

  1. Go to the create your Google Account page.
  2. To create your child’s account, follow the on-screen instructions.
    • You’ll enter info like your child’s name, the email address they want, and their birthday.
  3. To provide parental consent for your child’s account, sign in with your own Google Account and choose your preferred way to give consent.

When you’ve made the account, you get a confirmation on the screen.

So it’s the perfect way to let someone use your phone to, say, watch YouTube or check their emails.

You don’t have to worry about them roaming around your phone – they can’t escape the guest profile and access the main account without knowing your passcode.

More than half of voters think National Insurance hike would be a ‘tax on working people’, exclusive poll reveals

MORE than half of voters believe an increase in employers paying more National Insurance would be a “tax on working people”, an exclusive poll reveals.

Fifty-seven per cent of people say  the government would by default be breaking a manifesto commitment by launching the cash raid.

Small business leaders are concerned over speculation over national insurance hikes for employers
PA

Small business leaders last night warned the government against the move saying it WILL  hurt working people.

It comes after the Prime Minister said in the run-up to the election that he wouldn’t raise national insurance, income tax or VAT.

But Sir Keir gave the clearest sign yet today that he will impose a new “Jobs Tax” on bosses at the Budget.

Speaking in Downing Street, he told the BBC:  “We were very clear in the manifesto that we wouldn’t be increasing tax on working people and we expressly said that that was income tax, that was NICs etc.”

“It wasn’t just the manifesto, we said it repeatedly in the campaign and we intend to keep the promises that we made in our manifesto.

“So I’m not going to reveal to you the details of the Budget, you know that that’s not possible at this stage.”

Chancellor Rachel Reeves all but confirmed she will raise national insurance payments for bosses in the Budget  while at an investment summit on Monday.

Craig Beaumont, of the Federation of Small Businesses, said:   “Hiking the jobs tax without looking after small employers would do the polar opposite – hitting working people’s jobs, pay & pensions, and increasing economic inactivity.”

Concerns was raised by 61 per cent of people who said if taxes go up on business then costs are passed on to “ordinary people” like them, the Portland Communications poll found.

Shadow Business Secretary Kevin Hollinrake said: “Opening the door to a Jobs Tax is sowing further uncertainty and chaos for businesses.

“It’s obvious to all that hiking employer National Insurance is a clear breach of Labour’s manifesto but, crucially, also a tax on jobs that will further hit confidence and damage economic growth.

“Not content with strangling businesses with red tape, Labour’s jobs tax would make it more expensive to hire people, driving up prices and slowing wages.

“Rachel Reeves was right when she first said this policy was anti-business. If they were as pro-business as they claimed, they would not pursue this damaging policy.”

A source close to the case told the Mirror: “The agents and attorneys who have, for years, worked diligently looking into Andrew’s friendship with Epstein are beyond frustrated.

“They’re angry that the probe has been parked.”

The source also said that no new evidence has been presented to the investigation for some time and so the case had stalled.

FBI agents are now spending their time investigating other alleged high-profile rapists like Sean “Diddy” Combs, Mirror sources went on to say.

Geoffrey Berman – the US attorney who indicted paedo Epstein – slammed Andrew in 2020 for providing “zero cooperation”.

THE decision comes after the Duke of York’s disgraced pal Ghislaine Maxwell had her appeal against sex trafficking convictions thrown out.
