How to build a strong MBA application with no GMAT
A decade ago, it would have been difficult to imagine getting into business school without a GMAT score. Today, things have changed and testing requirements are more flexible than ever, with MBA programs providing options for waivers, wider acceptance of the GRE and other tests as substitutes, and some schools even nixing test requirements altogether. Middle-aged women can thrive in the second half of their lives—if they pay attention to these 3 things
We’re sizes 10 and 18 and did a huge autumn Quiz haul – don’t sleep on this shop, we kept everything
THERE are more than 60 Quiz stores across the UK, and they’re currently rammed full of gorgeous autumn and winter buys.
But if you’d asked us before last week if it’s somewhere we regularly shop, the answer would be no.
Our matching office looks flattered both figures[/caption]At 33-years-old, I’m a big-boobed and petite size 18. Meanwhile, my work bestie Lynn, 44, is a gorgeous size 10 momma.
We both struggle with body issues when it comes to our tums but are trying to step out of our comfort zones to help our fellow shoppers find the best stores for size inclusive fashion.
We’ve been scouring fan-favourite supermarkets and high street stores to find the right outfits for every occasion – and for everybody.
And last week we decided to give a Scottish retail chain a try.
Quiz was founded in Glasgow in the 1990s and has quickly established itself as a high street giant.
Both myself and Lynn admitted we had always thought it catered to a much younger crowd, and as a result, tended to avoid it.
But we were in for a lovely surprise with our haul – finding outfits not just in our size, but that were stylish and age-appropriate too.
First up, we bagged a £27.99 black and white striped jumper in a small and large which we paired with a flattering black pleated midi skirt (size 10 and 18) for an office look.
With a comfy elasticated waistband, the £34.99 skirt is a true to size gem that can easily be dressed up with heels too.
The jumper is a gorgeous knit without feeling too chunky, and is giving very time-appropriate Beetlejuice vibes.
We finished off our office vibes with a cropped black blazer which we picked up in a size 10 and 18 for £49.99.
Next, we paired a £34.99 oatmeal shacket with T-shirts and £16.99 chocolate brown ribbed leggings.
If, like us, you’re self-conscious about your stomach then these leggings – which we bagged in a small and large – are an absolute godsend.
The high waist and thick, suck-you-in waistband are a dreamy combo. And the colour is perfect for autumn too.
The only small criticism I could make about this casual fall look, I wish the shacket went up to a size XL for a slightly baggier look.
For our final look, we found an absolute steal of an autumn wedding guest dress.
And it won’t just be perfect for weddings – with Christmas just two months away, it will also look gorgeous at festive parties.
The stunning £39.99 forest green bardot skater dress – available in sizes 8 to 26 – skims your figure in all the right places and hides any lumps and bumps.
It has a pretty and feminine neckline that feels very flattering…even when we accidentally wore the sleeves much higher than the model on the website.
It proved to be true to size too after we picked it up in a size 10 and 18.
You’d be hard pushed to find a good quality occasionwear dress for under £40, so this is a definite bargain.
If green’s not your colour, it’s also available in black, red, purple, pink, burgundy and floral.
So if you’re looking for an autumn wardrobe refresh and you’ve not given Quiz a chance before, go for it. Like us, you won’t be disappointed.
And check out our other ‘For Everybody’ hauls for some more inspiration.
So far we have put Sainsbury’s Tu Clothing autumn collection to the test and walked away with some fantastic wardrobe staples including an £18 leopard print dress that suits any occasion.
Meanwhile, River Island impressed with their fall fashion – and we discovered the coat of the season.
We’ve also found the best alternative to the viral jumper in Primark, as well as some surprise jeans and trousers that are AW24 staples.
Chancellor Rachel Reeves tries to reassure tax-raid stressed entrepreneurs by quoting Toy Story
THE Chancellor last night tried to reassure tax-raid stressed entrepreneurs by telling them: “You’ve got a friend in me.”
Rachel Reeves turned on the charm at a summit that called for greater investment for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
In a nod to the Toy Story theme song, she told an audience that included Alex Kendall, of driverless car start-up Wayve, and Benjamina Bollag, from lab-grown meat firm Uncommon: “Growth is driven by the private sector, and by entrepreneurs like those in this room.
“So my message is simple: You’ve got a friend in me, and in the Treasury I run. We will do all we can to see you succeed; for jobs, for opportunities, and for growth.”
Ms Reeves flagged Government backing of the £250million Invest in Women taskforce, and efforts to unlock more pension fund backing for the British Growth Partnership.
But small firms worry they are not being cushioned from the extra costs of Labour’s worker shake-up.
The threat of higher employer National Insurance contributions will make it more expensive to create jobs. Bosses fear the impact from higher capital gains taxes, and inheritance tax changes.
And they are urging the Government not to scrap entrepreneurs’ relief, amid fears that it will lead to a rush of firms selling up.
Neil Stevens, joint CEO at Fintel, said: “These reforms and taxes are quite inhibitive. It creates a dead-end for entrepreneurs.” Mitchell Barnes, of printing firm RYSE 3D, added: “Worker reforms are forcing us to consider whether creating jobs is actually worth it.”
The Federation of Small Business’s Craig Beaumont said: “A change to NI contributions means every job is more expensive for a small firm to create and maintain.”
Bridget Greenwood, of The 200Bn Club, added: “We need a tax system that rewards innovation and ambition, not one that punishes it.”
Natalie Anne Haigh at Mentoring Entrepreneurs said Budget worries were a distraction that SMEs owners didn’t need after Covid.
Rooneys in big shake-up
Coleen and Wayne Rooney are among those backing the £400million listing of Applied Nutrition[/caption]COLEEN and Wayne Rooney are among the big-hitters backing a £400million listing of a protein shake and supplements business.
Applied Nutrition uses mum-of-four Coleen, 38, as one of its ambassadors, alongside UFC fighter Molly “Meatball” McCann, 34.
Its investor prospectus says that the company understands the Rooneys will take up a right to buy shares in the company’s listing.
Applied Nutrition, which formulates and creates supplements for athletes and fitness fans, is boosting the lifeless London Stock Exchange with a listing that will value the business at between £340million and £400million.
The British success story will also land its 40-year-old founder Thomas Ryder, right, a father of four and former scaffolder, a £220million pay day.
By listing the business before the Budget, Mr Ryder will sidestep any looming capital gains tax rises which Chancellor Rachel Reeves may introduce.
Other notable backers include Tom Morris, the billionaire behind Home Bargains, and Mohsin Issa, the co-owner of Asda.
Builder's fears
HOUSEBUILDER BELLWAY’S boss has accused the Government of “talking down” the property market as Budget jitters put people off buying a new home.
Bellway’s revenues fell 30 per cent in the past year to £2.4billion while adjusted profits fell 58 per cent to £226million.
Boss Jason Honeyman said Government housing reforms and growth push had been “dampened a bit by talking down the market”.
Bellway said it is expecting growth to pick up next year after the Budget gives more certainty.
Plug is pulled on Plum
Victoria Plumbing has shut its near-namesake Victoria Plum[/caption]VICTORIA PLUMBING has shut its near-namesake Victoria Plum just five months after acquiring it for £22.5million.
Victoria Plum’s website and Doncaster warehouse are to close by December 31, resulting in 100 job losses.
All existing customer orders will be fulfilled.
Victoria Plumbing bought the business in May after 23 years of sparring, including a 2018 trademark dispute.
Insiders said Victorian Plumbing was having to spend millions on Google adverts to ensure it outranked its rival in online search results, and the takeover was a means of ending customer confusion.
Yesterday it became clear that it had paid to put its loss-making rival out of business.
Victoria Plumbing CEO Mark Radcliffe said the move offers a “significant opportunity to accelerate growth”.
The firm said it had delivered a record one million orders in a year as full-year revenues have risen by 4 per cent.
Rents rocketing
MORE than four million Brits are facing a squeeze as rent is hiked to record highs.
The average outside London rose in September by 5.2 per cent compared with last year, with tenants typically now being charged £1,344 a month.
In the capital, rents hit a new record of £2,694 a month, Rightmove figures showed.
Spokesman Tim Bannister said: “With rental supply under strain, incentivising landlords to invest in energy-efficient upgrades or offering tax relief could help maintain rental supply and ease affordability pressures for tenants.”
Riot rise for Mitie
SECURITY guard provider Mitie was one of the few firms to gain from the summer riots.
The FTSE 250 firm yesterday reported a 13 per cent rise in half-year sales to £2.4billion.
Mitie said it cashed in on requests “at short notice to provide additional security to vulnerable locations”.

Britain is the migrant magnet of Europe – now even EU is tougher than Labour
Migrant magnet
WHO would have predicted that within a few short years of Brexit finally happening Britain would be the soft-touch of Europe on illegal immigration?
We didn’t just fail dismally to take back control of our borders.
Britain is the soft-touch of Europe on illegal immigration[/caption]We flung them open, allowing hundreds of migrants a day to stroll in from our beaches just as the EU — still bizarrely the fantasy land of liberal Remainers — radically hardens its own regime.
Our Labour Government clutched its pearls over Rwanda and axed it just as it began to deter.
But Brussels is planning no-nonsense deportation camps built outside the EU for asylum rejects.
It used to call Britain racist for voting to end free movement and control migration.
It branded as “inhumane” our deal to send illegal migrants to Rwanda to seek asylum there.
Now Germany and others have ended free movement and thrown up border controls.
Poland has banned asylum altogether.
EU chief Ursula von der Leyen wants deportation “return hubs”.
They are likely to be full, too, since the EU rejects a substantially greater percentage of applications than the UK.
We have an open door at Dover, no deterrent, are more credulous towards applicants, provide lavish benefits to the vast majority who stay and appear powerless to deport the rest in any great number.
We’re the magnet of Europe.
In easy opposition, Home Secretary Yvette Cooper denounced migration failures without ever offering a credible alternative.
She aimed to “smash the gangs” sailing people across the Channel.
How impotent that now sounds, especially as Brussels toughens up.
Fuel folly
A GOVERNMENT which vowed not to raise tax on working people cannot credibly then hike fuel duty.
It is worrying that Labour would even consider doing so in the looming Budget.
Who do they think those drivers filling up cars and vans on the forecourts are?
Idle millionaires? The unemployed? Pensioners ripe for another plucking?
Those are working people, who can ill afford to lose yet another few quid to the Treasury on every visit to the pumps.
Raising fuel duty hurts families’ budgets, crushes growth and could destroy thousands of jobs.
It has been frozen and even cut for 14 years, thanks to The Sun’s campaigning, with good reason.
Labour must rule it out.
At gong last
HERO is an overused word. But John Haddock is one.
In 1944 the RAF flyer sank Nazi boats to clear the Channel for the D-Day landings.
Now the grateful French he helped liberate have finally awarded him their Legion d’Honneur medal.
What a gift on his 102nd birthday.
Many happy returns, John, from The Sun.
‘This is CHAOS’ say MAFS UK fans as Hannah is accused of massaging another groom’s FEET before storming off the show
MAFS UK fans were left in shock after seeing a bride accused of flirting with someone else’s husband – by massaging his feet.
Hannah Norburn has only recently been introduced to the E4 reality show, but she has already caused her fair share of drama.
Hannah has been causing controversy since she first appeared on MAFS UK[/caption] Her husband Stephen refused to stay in a cottage with her during a couples’ getaway[/caption] She was furious after hearing his accusations of her flirting with other grooms[/caption]She got into a blazing row with her husband Stephen Nolson on the honeymoon, where she threatened to reveal a family secret he had told her off camera.
Stephen decided to spend the night away from Hannah for the second time following their argument.
At their first commitment ceremony, he made it clear he wasn’t sure he could ever forgive her for the threat.
Now all the couples have gone on a retreat for some much-needed R&R – but this has just sparked more Hannah related controversy.
As some of the couples gathered in one of the common rooms to discuss their relationships, Polly mentioned that she found some of Hannah’s behaviour towards other grooms on the experiment inappropriate.
She told her friends: “Last night after the commitment ceremony she’s gone up to Shannon and Ryan’s room and she was rubbing Ryan’s feet in front of Shannon and going ‘ain’t you got nice blue eyes, your feet are so soft, isn’t it nice and warm in there?’”
Viewers were left gobsmacked by the accusation, and took to social media to share their thoughts on the incident.
One person hit out: “You’re acting inappropriately with other husbands…. Don’t try manipulate it Hannah.”
Another added: “Hannah, it doesn’t matter whose feet you rub Stephen is done. Stop being desperate over a man who doesn’t even prioritise living near his kids.”
A third joked: “So Hannah’s been caught even before she’s even started her shenanigans? She ain’t no Cindy Beale is she?”
Someone else groaned: “Hannah playing the victim again after FLIRTING with other people’s husbands and s**t stirring. Have a day off love. You’re a walking trainwreck.”
The conversation then turned to Hannah asking to hold Orson’s hand at the commitment ceremony to make Stephen jealous.
Stephen confronted her about the rumours and Hannah got defensive, asking: “So I can’t even have banter and try and make friends while I’m here?”
When her husband then made it clear he didn’t want to share a cottage with her she stormed off, shouting: “I’m getting so sick of people throwing me under the bus. Get me off this f**king TV show I swear to God.”
