Cost of breakfast staple set to soar in price due to Budget’s hated tax on farms

THE COST of British sausages could soar because of the hated farmers tax, experts warned last night.

Farmers are mutinying and considering mass protests after being clobbered by an inheritance tax raid on farms worth over £1 million.

They say the Budget has sounded the death knell for the family farm.

Now there are dire warnings fans of the great British banger will have to pay the price.

Mo Metcalf-Fisher, from The Countryside Alliance, said: “Losing farms would be a catastrophe, we can’t risk undermining our own food security.

“Costs for everyday British favourites like bangers could well be impacted as a result and we’d be relying more and more on foreign imports.”

Tory MP Charlie Dewhirst – whose family run a pig farm – said: “If farms are sold and it reduces food production then that could mean higher prices.”

Chancellor Rachel Reeves was also accused of “signing a death warrant” for thousands of multi-generational businesses as inheritance tax is imposed on other family-run firms for the first time since 1970.

Sun columnist and Diddly Squat Farm owner Jeremy Clarkson said farmers have been “shafted” — and TV property expert Kirstie Allsopp accused Ms Reeves of having “f***ed all farmers”.

Tory MPs warned the Budget could “spell the end of family farms”.

They accused Environment and Farming Secretary Steve Reed of betraying the sector, having promised last year “we have no intention of changing” inheritance tax on farms.

The National Farmers Union said the move would “snatch away the next generation’s ability to produce food”.

A PAIR of veteran car enthusiasts show what’s under their bonnet as they perch on a 1901 Mors — bringing a touch of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang magic to the road.

They celebrated 120 years of the Ladies’ Automobile Club yesterday as they joined fans preparing for the world’s oldest and slowest motoring event — run every year since 1897.

Scores of cars from a more genteel age today drive 60 miles from London to Brighton, not exceeding 20mph.

Ahead of Sunday’s run, dozens of vehicles lined up in Pall Mall yesterday, including a 1904 Mercedes Simplex and a Subaru Impreza rally car.

Telly gardener Alan Titchmarsh judged a line up of 75 cars built before 1905.

Last month, The Sun reported on a classic car nut’s collection of 24 motors including a Ford Model A and dashing red 1953 Sedan, which had been sold at auction.

Collector Peter Learmont’s family decided to sell the collection, parked in the Learmont Pavilion at Sapphire Coast Historic Vehicle Club in Australia, after his death last year.

Collector Peter got a passion for motors while flicking through a magazine while at a barber shop.

Aussie Peter was born a twin with his brother Don and their similarities went further than just looking alike.

They both forged careers as pharmacists and a love of classic vehicles.

Both loved looking through The Saturday Evening Post and they would often find themselves sitting and waiting at their local barber and eyeing the cars featured within the paper.

Lloyds auctioned off the cars on June 29 this year.

Miranda arrived to rehearsals to check on Sarah Hadland and Vito Coppola as their practiced for Icons Week[/caption]

In the clip, Miranda was seen sneaking into the couple’s rehearsals for their latest routine for Icons Week on Strictly Come Dancing.

The pair, who have repeatedly received high scores each week, were practising their Cha-Cha-Cha to Madonna‘s ‘Like a Prayer’.

Jokingly ‘choreographing’ her best friend, an emotional Miranda then showered Sarah with praise as she told her: “It’s an amazing experience, I feel lucky, like I have won a prize.”

The appearance comes as BBC bosses are said to be keen to entice Miranda to join a future series and are using Sarah to make it happen.

The Call the Midwife actress is said to be on BBC bosses hit list with their hopes lying with Sarah to impress her co-star and pal to sign up next year.

An insider told The Mail on Sunday: “Sarah and Miranda used to watch Strictly at home together before Sarah was on it.

“It was their joint dream to be on [the show]. Ultimately, Miranda would love to go on the show.”

They added: “The BBC is desperate to get the big names back on the show.

“If they could tempt Miranda onto it, then it could encourage other big celebrities to do it again.

“Sarah is their hope because she’s so close to Miranda.”

Miranda’s appearance also comes after last month she shocked fans as she revealed she’d secretly got wed, and kept her new marriage firmly out of the spotlight.

The BBC favourite revealed she had secretly got married following a debilitating health battle as she spoke in a recent interview.

Appearing on The Graham Norton Show, Miranda gave fans more details as she told how her diagnosis with Lyme disease made her want to find love.

She said: “I had my diagnosis during the pandemic, and it was a very lonely time, so I decided I didn’t want to be alone anymore.

“So I put out this little prayer with about one percent of hope, but I met someone and got married in July.”

Keir Starmer promised to impose tough reforms on public services in return for extra billions in investment

SIR Keir Starmer has promised to impose tough reforms on public services in return for extra billions in investment.

The PM scrambled to reassure panicked markets in the wake of Labour’s £40 billion tax-hiking Budget.

Meanwhile, experts told The Sun on Sunday that reforming welfare to give local communities more powers could get 700,000 people back to work.

The Government is drawing up plans for sweeping reforms across the state to get better value for money out of taxpayers cash.

This will include changing the welfare system, using more tech in the NHS and reviewing prison sentences.

Writing in The FInancial Times, Sir Keir said the next stage of his economic plan is “reform”.

He said: “Just as we cannot tax and spend our way to prosperity, nor can we simply spend our way to better public services.

“That is why reform is an essential pillar of this government’s agenda. Reform of our creaking state. Reform of our public services. And reform of our economy.”

Proposals to reform the welfare system are set to be unveiled before Christmas.

The welfare bugdet is predicted to soar from £296.3 billion this year to £361.4bn by 2029, according to the Office for Budget Responsiblity.

There are currently a record 2.8 million people off work on long term sickness.

The Centre for Social Justice said Britain should adopt reforms already in place in Holland which devolves power for employment support to local communities.

The respected think-tank is calling on the Government to switch £6 billion from Whitehall to local government to tackle economic inactivity.

The radical reforms could get an estimated 700,000 Brits back to work, the organisation said.

Andy Cook, chief executive of the CSJ, siad: “The Government must take radical action to tackle the epidemic of long-term sickness and economic inactivity by adopting a Dutch-style system.

“Giving local communities these powers can get 700,000 Britons working again.”

Analysis by the CSJ has found that spending on working-age health and disability benefits is expected to increase by over £19 billion by the end of the parliament.

This is even more than the £16 billion the Government expects to net by raising National Insurance on employers.

The Sun on Sunday revealed last month that ministers want to give more power to regional mayors to spearhead back to work programmes and control job centres.

Mom ‘pushed her two children over railing at Niagara Falls before jumping to her death’, police claim

A MOM who tragically died after plunging from the Niagara Falls may have pushed her children first before jumping to her death, cops have claimed.

Crews are urgently searching roaring waters for the bodies of Chianti Means, 33, nine-year-old Roman Rossman, and five-month-old Mecca Means.

Cops are searching the roaring waters outside Buffalo, New York, for Means and her sons Roman Rossman, nine, and Mecca Means, five months[/caption]

Means, who was from Niagara Falls, outside Buffalo, New York, scaled the guard rails with her children on Monday, the police department said.

Security footage of Luna Park where the tragedy took place shows the two children going over the railings before the mum, cops say.

James O’Callaghan, staff from the State Park Police, said that it appeared as if the mum was not chasing her children when they fell to their deaths.

He said in a press conference: “We believe this was intentional.

“Not going to get into what the witnesses saw because it’s still an active case, but it is alarming what they told us.”

Means, who was from Niagara Falls, outside Buffalo, New York, scaled the guard rails with her children on October 28.

Officers went to Goat Island at around 9pm on Monday night and started to search for the mom.

They later discovered all three members of the family were missing and believed they had fallen into the water below.

Cops said that they were sweeping the area thoroughly to search for the mum and her children’s bodies.

The New York Marine Patrol, Aviation and Underwater Recovery Units are all assisting in the hunt.

Unmanned Aircraft Systems have also been deployed by New York State police.

However, there has been no sign of any bodies so far, sparking fears that their bodies may never be found.

Many of those who have jumped to their deaths in Niagara Falls or fallen in by accident have never been recovered from the bottom of the waterfall, over which 3,610 tons of water rage every second.

SUFFERING FROM DEPRESSION

Means went by Diamond Scott online and was active on Facebook, posting lighthearted messages about love and dating just days before jumping from the falls.

However, at the beginning of October, the mom shared now-heartbreaking messages about death.

“You have to hold on to the ones you love,” she wrote in the tragic post.

“Never know when you might lose them.”

Days before this, she opened up about relationship issues, saying, “I wish someone would love me because the man that’s supposed to does not.”

In the post’s comments, she said she would be “cold & lonely all winter.”

In another post shared a few days later, she wrote, “Everyone please leave me alone I’m in love with my daughter’s father.

“I want my family back. Respectfully, idgaf what I said about him before or what anyone else thinks.”

Cousin Bierra Hamilton told the New York Post that Means had been suffering from postpartum depression.

“Her death wasn’t over a man. My cousin was silently fighting depression alone,” she added.

The U.S. Sun spoke with a friend of Means, Amanda Roberts-Conrad, who said the two last connected at her son’s birthday party in summer 2023.

Means brought her son and her nephew to the celebration, and the trio had tons of fun playing in a bouncy castle together.

However, in recent months, Means had been having relationship troubles and was struggling, Roberts-Conrad claimed.

The U.S. Sun approached the New York State Police to see if they were investigating this issue, but they didn’t have a comment.

‘KIND AND BEAUTIFUL’

Chaianti, a mom of three, worked as a domestic violence counselor, according to her LinkedIn profile.

Roberts-Conrad first met Means in 2012 when they got pregnant at the same time.

She remembers the mom as a great friend who always had comforting words when Roberts-Conrad was struggling.

“Diamond was kind and beautiful. I will remember her as such,” Roberts-Conrad said.

The friend slammed anyone who has been posting nasty words about Means instead of considering young mothers’ mental health issues.

“It makes me so sad to see people paint her a type of way,” she said.

“We need to bring more awareness to postpartum depression and possibly more safety down by the falls.

“This is a common occurrence in my city. It’s gut-wrenching.

“It really is a terrible loss.”

Sporting expect Ruben Amorim to raid his old club for Man Utd next summer with THREE stars tipped for pricey transfers

RUBEN AMORIM revealed he will not sign any Sporting Lisbon stars in January.

But the new Manchester United boss refuses to rule out a summer move for sensation Viktor Gyokeres.

United have only scored eight goals in nine top-flight games this season.

Ex-Coventry striker Gyokeres, 26, has already netted 18 times so far — having hit 43 last term — but the Swede’s release clause is £84million.

Amorim said: “I’m not going to get any players from Sporting in January. Gyokeres costs 100 million and it’s very difficult.”

Despite promising not to make any moves when the winter transfer window opens, Sporting bosses are privately admitting they expect Amorim to come in for his former players next summer.

Gyokeres — also being followed closely by Arsenal — refused to rule out a potential move to the Premier League.

He said: “Going with Amorim to Man Utd? I don’t know… I’m here.

“As you can see, I enjoy it at Sporting. It’s nothing I think about.

“I’m just sad about him leaving. We wish him all the best.”

Ex-Red Devils winger Nani is backing Amorim to be a success.

Nani said: “He is in an excellent place and has all the conditions to do well.”

Woman, 82, dies after 15 hours laying on the floor at home waiting for an ambulance

a yellow and green ambulance is parked in front of a building
Swansea, UK: September 25, 2018: One yellow Ambulance parked at the Accident and Emergency Department at Morriston Hospital. The ambulance has bilingual signage on the bodywork.

A WOMAN of 82 died after 15 hours laying on the floor at home waiting for an ambulance.

A coroner said it showed that the system for prioritising 999 medical calls was no longer fit for purpose,

The first call was made at 5.13pm after Shirley Hughes collapsed at home in Ruthin, Denbighshire, in June.

But the ambulance service was busy and, despite her case being upgraded under the medical priority dispatch system, no help arrived until 7.48am the next day.

She died in hospital from sepsis four days later.

An inquest heard that Ms Hughes should have waited up to 20 minutes after the priority upgrade at 4.13am — but she waited 3½ hours more.

Coroner John Gittins said: “This raises questions as to whether the MPDS system remains fit for purposes.”

“For many years, myself and other coroners have raised concerns regarding so-called ‘ambulance delays'”.

In a prevention of future deaths report, he said coroners’ worries over ambulance delays were growing.

He added: “I’m concerned lives are at risk.”

I stormed out of my sister’s gender reveal after she threw an epic tantrum about having a boy – it made me sick

HOLDING a gender reveal has become the norm over recent years.

But people are questioning if they’re a good idea if you have your hopes up for a specific gender, and one woman saw it go awry herself.

Most people are excited to find out the gender of their baby but one mum was left devastated[/caption]

It’s not uncommon for people to get a little upset when they find out the gender of their child and it doesn’t mean they won’t love them.

But it can be a shock to the system at first, especially when you’re pregnant and already feeling hormonal fluctuations.

But one woman has slammed her sister as ‘sick’ for throwing a tantrum at her gender reveal.

In fact, she was so horrified by the scene that she stormed out of her sibling’s party.

In a post on Reddit, the 37-year-old said she attended her sister’s gender reveal party.

Initially, she was confused when she arrived as the room was decorated in “so much pink“, making it look like her sister already knew she was expecting a baby girl.

But when the gender reveal happened and the mum-to-be found out she was actually going to be having a boy – she became “hysterical”.

She was “furious” and said she was being “punished” by not having a little girl, which left her sister seething.

The woman explained that she has no living children herself, despite being pregnant four times, as she sadly endured three miscarriages and one stillborn baby.

Naturally, she was upset by her sister’s reaction over the gender as she was still going to have a healthy baby.

She wrote: “She got so hysterical and furious, and she cursed and screamed that she wanted a girl; she was supposed to be having a girl, and who the f**k was punishing her this way.”

“Her husband looked equally upset by the reveal. I heard him say it was all bulls**t and what a waste.”

“My sister’s temper tantrum saddened me and honestly sickened me as someone who would do anything for a child to raise. So we quietly left, but it was noticed.”

Her sister later confronted her for leaving without comforting her and was called a “terrible sister”, and even their parents told her she should have been there for her sibling.

The world's most expensive gender reveals

GENDER reveals are becoming bigger and more elaborate day by day, with people constantly thinking of different ways to up those before them.

And money is no issue for a lot of these couples – with some spending hundreds or thousands on the event.

Read on for some of the most expensive gender reveals in history.

Ste Hamilton

Wealthy property tycoon and YouTuber Ste Hamilton decided to gift his wife-to-be Isabella Rowles with a £300,000 Lamborghini, which would be in either pink or blue to reflect their baby’s gender.

Steven and Isabella and friends and family attended an extravagant event at the Belfry Hotel and Resort near Birmingham to find out they were having a baby boy.

“It was worth every second of the hard work to see the happiness in everyone’s faces on the day,” Ste said, after spending a further £40,000 on the big reveal.

Logan Paul

The wrestling star and YouTuber and fiancee Nina Agdal staged a public wrestling match for their gender reveal.

A wrestler in pink trunks took on one in blue, with the one in pink emerging victorious – signifying that they are having a baby girl.

Inga Stumbriene

The Lithuanian influencer hired planes to fly in the sky as she, her fiance and their nearest and dearest watched.

The planes dropped a load of blue confetti – revealing the pair were having a boy – but people insisted it was the “most polluted” gender reveal ever.

Anonymous couple

One of the most recent jaw-dropping gender reveals happened in May 2024, when a couple decided to DYE a waterfall to reveal if they were having a boy or girl.

After the videos circulated on the social media, the public demanded for the couple to be punished, with some suggesting they should go to jail.

Others were concerned about water contamination, as the pair had used a powdered chemical known as “Blue Lagoon” into the Queima-Pe River, which feeds the waterfall.

She took to Reddit asking if she was in the wrong, but many commented claiming they were on her side.

One person wrote: “And let’s just imagine that the little boy finds the video of the party and sees his mother having a nervous breakdown because he isn’t a girl. Poor boy.”

Another commented: “Being upset because you expected a different outcome is one thing. For you and your husband to throw a tantrum and ruin the vibe of the party is another thing. I don’t care what anyone says. I think it’s sick and selfish. The way people try and normalise people ruining their own gender reveals over not having the gender they wanted.”

“Your sister has some definite entitlement issues and throwing a tantrum like a toddler proves she has yet to grow up and be an adult. Other family members supporting her behaviour will only make your sister believe that her narcissistic view on things is right. I’d cut off the lot of them if this is the way they choose to act,” penned a third.

Meanwhile a fourth said: “Totally understand your point of view. Sounds like she’s the golden child. Maybe it’s time to put some distance between you and them for a little while.”

“People should not be throwing gender reveal parties if they are at risk for gender disappointment,” claimed a fifth.

Someone else added: “That poor little baby boy.”

The couple, who began dating in February earlier this year, enjoyed their thrillseeking date night at the annual Tulleys Shocktober Fest Theme Park.

In one picture from the event, Katie can be seen screaming as she strapped up for the ride at Europe’s Largest Scream Park alongside beau JJ Slater.

The shot shows off the recent work Katie had done after she shelled out £10k on a face lift in Turkey that has reportedly left her looking ‘like Megan Fox‘.

The date night pictures come after Katie’s ex fiancée Carl Woods has spoken to The Sun exclusively about the breakdown of their off and on again relationship.

The used car dealer dated the glamour model from 2020 after meeting in a kebab shop and later got engaged in 2021.

The couple split back in December 2023 after three years of dating and rollercoaster romance, but now he claims there was a cross over with her new relationship with MAFS star JJ.

He said: “We watched that series of Married At First Sight and she asked me if I knew him as he was an Essex boy.

“She was lining him up. I wasn’t shocked when I heard they were together as she had made that comment.”

Carl has now claimed that Katie was still messaging him while she was dating JJ and left him WhatsApp voice notes telling him that they needed to be apart but she still loved him.

He continued: “She went skiing with him on the day of my birthday in February but she was messaging me to the lead-up of the trip.

“Even on Valentine’s Day she sent me texts.

“Katie moulds herself into your perfect woman so that you’re always chasing that dream — but it’s a façade.

“I don’t know who the real woman is.

“She would sit there and Google herself looking at pictures of her younger days.”

Carl has also revealed how he caught Katie cheating on him with a total of four men during their relationship — all younger than her.

Gerrard was booed by the home fans following his club’s latest defeat

It was Al-Ettifaq’s fourth defeat in six games, with reports suggesting Gerrard is on the brink of losing his job.

And at the final whistle, the Saudi Pro League club’s supporters let the ex-England star know how they felt about the loss.

As he clapped on the pitch towards the stands at the end of the game, he was met by jeers from the home faithful.

The heated moment was captured on video and shared on social media.

The boos come after it was reported Gerrard, 44, held talks with Al-Ettifaq owners, as he fights to keep his £15.2million job.

Gerrard, who lives a lavish lifestyle in the Gulf state, is just 16 months into the job.

However, this week his side suffered an embarrassing defeat to a second division team in the Saudi cup.

Gerrard’s team lost 3-1 to Al-Jabalain in the King Cup of Champions round of 16, with the former Aston Villa boss controversially leaving star strike Moussa Dembele on the bench.

The ex-Three Lions captain revealed he held crisis talks with Al-Ettifaq’s owners – but vowed to fight for his job.

He said: “On the back of recent results in my position you are always aware of disappointment from fans, I have to take that responsibility on my shoulders.

“That is what I will do and continue to fight and work to improve the recent results.

“I don’t react, change or get overconcerned about social media or anyone on the outside of Ettifaq’s opinion, my priority is this club.

“I listen to the people within and continue to support my players.
