RUUD VAN NISTELROOY has admitted that he had “mixed feelings” after taking over as Manchester United caretaker boss.
The Dutchman, 48, was promoted to the role following Erik ten Hag’s sacking earlier this week.

Van Nistelrooy, 48, was brought to Old Trafford by Erik ten Hag in the summer[/caption]
Van Nistelrooy won his first game in charge on Wednesday, dumping Leicester out of the Carabao Cup with a 5-2 drubbing.
With Amorim not available to begin work at Old Trafford until November 11, Van Nistelrooy will take charge of three more matches.
Ahead of tomorrow’s home clash with Chelsea, Van Nistelrooy sat down with United’s club media to preview the clash.
Reflecting upon his start to life in temporary charge, the former striker said: “Yeah, if I speak about the game, the reception, the connection with the crowd, and how the players reacted and how the players played, it was a great night.
“I enjoyed every second of it. Special, proud moment. Obviously the days before leading up to that were with mixed feelings.
“It was hard to see the manager go: the one who got me into the club, you know, the one who was fighting also for this club and cared a lot about the club.
“So that was hard. But I have to say that, after that, the crowd lifted our spirits and it was a great night in the end.”
Having previously managed PSV Eindhoven in the Eredivisie, Van Nistelrooy joined Ten Hag’s staff as a first team coach in the summer.
SunSport revealed yesterday that United stars are desperate for Van Nistelrooy to be retained as part of Amorim’s coaching staff.
Following the win over Leicester, United’s former forward signalled that he wants to stay.
He told Sky Sports: “I came here as an assistant to help the club. Now in this role, I’m helping as long as needed.
“I’m here to help and serve and give my everything for the club in any capacity with so many people here around me that want the best for the club and that will never change.”

THE death of a mum-of-three – initially ruled a suicide – has instead been staged by her husband, a coroner has found.
The bombshell twist comes a shocking 14 years after Helen Bird was found dead in the garage of her Blackmans Bay home in Tasmania, Australia.
Helen Bird was found dead in July 2010[/caption]
The mum’s death was initially ruled a suicide[/caption]
She was found on July 8, 2010 by her husband Mark Bird at around 11.30am.
Helen’s death was at first deemed a suicide by a coroner in 2011, who found that nobody – including Mr Bird – had any involvement.
But years later, Coroner Robert Webster said the death was actually staged by Helen’s husband, who incapacitated her before setting up the scene and lying to cops.
He also slammed the police inquiry into Helen’s death, calling it “inadequate”.
Mr Webster said: “Investigating police should not accept what they are told or what appears, from the scene.
“Such a death should be treated as a suspicious death until investigations conclusively establish otherwise.”
According to the coroner’s ruling, Mr Bird likely used toxic fumes to “incapacitate” the palliative care nurse.
Mr Webster found Mr Bird then caused Helen’s death by asphyxiation and made it appear as though she had committed suicide by setting her phone, a picture, and a letter on a nearby bench in the garage.
The coroner said in his findings: “There is no evidence Ms Bird had mentioned or threatened suicide, and there is no evidence of suicidal ideation.
“There was therefore no reason for her to be experimenting with ropes or other methods of harming herself and that experiment going wrong thereby leading to her death by accident or misadventure.”
Mr Bird “absolutely rejects” the claim that he was involved in his wife’s death and has never been charged with any crime related to it, Australian outlet ABC reports.
Mr Webster characterised Mr Bird as a “untruthful person” in addition to being an untruthful witness in his published ruling.
He said: “The evidence establishes Mrs Bird’s children were her life.
“She would not have left them behind particularly with someone [Mr Bird] who was incapable of properly looking after himself, let alone his children.
In an affidavit, Mr Bird claimed that his wife had been drinking a lot of gin the night before she passed away, despite having assured police that she did not drink excessively.
The coroner found that Mr Bird had also distorted the real state of his marriage, citing claims of physical abuse and the couple’s “significant” financial strain.
According to news.com.au, Mr Bird was allegedly having an affair with another woman at the time his wife passed away.
In a “contrived” attempt to offer an alibi, Mr Bird – who said he had found his wife after returning from a shopping trip – called and texted his wife several times in the morning, according to the coroner.
Mr Webster said: “Mr Bird was a much larger person than Ms Bird,’ he said.
“He was more stockily built than her and he was taller. He was therefore clearly stronger than her.
“There is evidence Mr Bird could be verbally and physically aggressive, which included comments that he wished to dispose of people he did not like, and he felt physical and verbal aggression towards his family.”
The coroner added he was satisfied “given the exclusion of all other hypotheses, and the evidence against Mr Bird, that he was involved” in his wife’s death.
He sent his condolences to Helen Bird’s family and friends who had suffered from her loss.
A coroner has now ruled that Helen’s death had her husband’s involvement[/caption]
How you can get help
Women's Aid has this advice for victims and their families:
Always keep your phone nearby.
Get in touch with charities for help, including the Women’s Aid live chat helpline and services such as SupportLine.
If you are in danger, call 999.
Familiarise yourself with the Silent Solution, reporting abuse without speaking down the phone, instead dialing “55”.
Always keep some money on you, including change for a pay phone or bus fare.
If you suspect your partner is about to attack you, try to go to a lower-risk area of the house – for example, where there is a way out and access to a telephone.
Avoid the kitchen and garage, where there are likely to be knives or other weapons. Avoid rooms where you might become trapped, such as the bathroom, or where you might be shut into a cupboard or other small space.
If you are a victim of domestic abuse, SupportLine is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 6pm to 8pm on 01708 765200. The charity’s email support service is open weekdays and weekends during the crisis – messageinfo@supportline.org.uk.

JADON SANCHO has revived his career since switching from Manchester United to Chelsea last summer – but he could be unavailable for tomorrow’s huge fixture.
The tricky winger was forced out of United by former manager Erik ten Hag following their public spat last season.
Jadon Sancho has hit the ground running at Chelsea[/caption]
And the Blues were able to strike a deal with the Red Devils which saw Sancho complete a loan move on summer transfer deadline day.
Sancho, 24, is yet to register a goal for Chelsea, but he has contributed with three assists in five matches along with being voted Player of the Match on his Blues debut.
But it has been a talking point on whether Sancho will be able to feature for Chelsea against United on Super Sunday due to the loan rules.
SunSport can provide fans with the answers they need.
Can Jadon Sancho play for Chelsea against Man Utd?
Jadon Sancho will NOT be able to play against Manchester United in a huge blow to Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca.
This is due to the Football Association guidelines that loan players cannot face their parent club in the Premier League.
The rule was introduced in 2004 after Portsmouth loanee, Lomana LuaLua scored a late equaliser for Pompey against his parent club Newcastle.
However, the FA’s rules would allow Sancho to play for Chelsea against United should the two English rivals meet each other in any other domestic competition such as the FA Cup.
When do Chelsea play against Man Utd?
Chelsea travel to Manchester United TOMORROW – Sunday, November 3.
It is scheduled to get underway at 4:30pm GMT.
Old Trafford is the allocated arena for this huge Premier League clash and it can host approximately 74,310 roaring fans.
Cole Palmer’s hat-trick fired Chelsea to a 4-3 win when the sides last met in April.
What has been said?
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca appears to have forgotten that Jadon Sancho is unavailable for the clash due to the guidelines.
In the build-up to the match, Maresca said: “All the players are available but Jadon will be out.
“He has been ill in the recent days.”
Sancho has not featured in the last two matches for the Blues but Maresca hopes he will be in contention to face Noah in their Conference League clash on Thursday, November 7.

THIS is the shocking moment a violent thug bludgeons a man’s head with a hammer before fleeing the UK.
Abdul Wahab, 29, can be seen in terrifying footage wielding the weapon and running into a corner shop in Spark Hill, Birmingham, before unleashing his “revenge” attack on the victim.
Abdul Wahab was jailed for 21 years[/caption]
The man, in his 20s, can be seen stood at the till showing the worker something on his phone moments before Wahab lands multiple hammer blows to his skull.
Sick and twisted Wahab then fled to a nearby park where he dumped the hammer into a lake.
Just hours later, he was at Heathrow Airport and had boarded a flight to Abu Dhabi.
But cops were waiting to arrest him when he landed back on British soil on March 26.
Body cam footage showed the moment a smirking Wahab was snared and cuffed.
In the six-second frenzied ambush on February 21 this year, Wahab left the man with a near fatal bleed and swelling on the brain.
The victim needed metal plates inserted into his skull and jaw in order to survive, Birmingham Crown Court heard.
On October 25, Wahab was jailed for 21 years for the vicious assault.
He pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon.
However, the jury found him guilty of attempted murder.
DC Sam Higginson said: “This was a brutal attack on a man in a shop in the middle of the day.
“The man suffered serious head injuries, including a bleed to the brain, and had metal plates fitted in his skull. He was in hospital for more than a month.
“Wahab then fled the country in a desperate bid to escape justice. Fortunately, we arrested him on his return to the UK.
“This sentence sends out a clear message to perpetrators who act in this way.
“We will find you, you will be convicted and you will spend many years behind bars.”

3 days agoNewsComments Off on Experts reveal how to find the Ryanair seats with extra legroom – without paying for it
RYANAIR customers can find seats with extra legroom without paying extra using a simple trick, experts have revealed.
Researchers at the consumer group Which? made the discovery after examining different airlines’ seating plans.
They found that Ryanair seats often had more legroom if they were on the right-hand side of the plane.
This is because the budget airline run by business titan Michael O’Leary sometimes squeezes in an extra row of seats on the left – impacting legroom in the front compartment of the plane.
Which? specifically recommended seats D, E or F in rows 3-15 for the maximum chance of sitting comfortably on Ryanair’s Boeing 737 aircrafts.
The report states that these seats could mean “an extra half-inch of legroom versus other standard seats”.
These seats can be bagged either by getting lucky with the random allocation, or paying a modest £9 booking fee.
The same theory can be applied to other airlines, including EasyJet, according to Which?.
The report continued: “Seats towards the front of the plane aren’t actually the same size, with those on the right (seats D, E and F) often offering between an extra half-inch to inch of legroom versus those on the left.”
Customers booking themselves onto an EasyJet Airbus A321neo should specifically prioritise seats D, E and F in rows three to 13, the experts also claimed.
This should mean a whole 29 inches of space between you and the seat in front, versus just 28 inches in rows six to 17 and 30 to 40.
To see the seating plan before you book, the researchers said to simply type your destination and departure dates into Google Flights to find the aircraft type, then paste this into seat-plan website AeroLopa.
In another nugget of wisdom uncovered by the Which? researchers, the report recommended checking in to Ryanair flights as late as possible.
It said: “Those who don’t pay to pick a seat can check in from 24 hours to two hours before departure.
“The theory goes that the least desirable middle seats are allocated first because the airlines hope customers will change their minds and pay to upgrade.
“The longer you wait, the more likely it is that aisle and window seats will open up”.
The helpful advice comes as experts also shared the existence of little-known boxes cutting into legroom on some aircraft seats.
And, a magic seat with “practically unlimited” legroom on Ryanair Boeing 737-Max 8200 aircrafts was also revealed.
Plane etiquette
IF you're planning on going away any time soon, you'll need to pay attention to the following unwritten plane etiquette rules...
RECLINING SEAT: Podcast host and etiquette expert Nick Leighton explained that you shouldn’t recline your seat if the passenger behind you is working on their laptop.
He said: “Nobody likes their laptop snapped in half.”
Before you recline your seat, it’s best to check to see what the passenger behind you is doing.
If they are on a laptop, ask before you move your seat back.
He joined Olympiacos for one season, before returning to his home country last year when he signed for boyhood club Fluminense.
Marcelo has played 68 games for the Brazilian side – who sit 12th in the top flight.
But he was denied another appearance on Saturday after an incredible touchline spat with manager Mano Menezes.
The left-back was stripped and ready to come on in the 90th minute with Fluminense holding onto a 2-1 lead over Gremio.
Marcelo was preparing to enter the fray as part of a double substitution which also included the introduction of Marquinhos – the winger on loan from Arsenal.
But as Menezes gave Marcelo instructions on the sideline, the ex-Real Madrid man seemed to disagree with what he was being told.
This led to the manager becoming furious, before he pushed Marcelo and told him to sit down again.
Marcelo walked to the bench and pulled his bib back on.

A source said at the time: “Everything Maya touches turns to gold and companies are fighting to work with her. She has signed a six-figure deal with Beauty Works to be the face of their hair extensions for the rest of this year.
“It’s a clever move for Maya. She is very selective about who she works for and they have to make sense for her brand.
“She has her beauty deal with Rimmel and her fashion endorsement with Dolce & Gabbana, which have both banked her huge sums.”
We revealed last summer how Maya had banked her first million thanks to her savvy business deals, which includes her own brand of eye masks.
Speaking about her success, the presenter – who bought a lavish mansion in 2024 – admitted she still had to remind herself it was real.
She said: “It’s all just a bit mental. I still have moments where I say, ‘What the hell is going on?’, and pinch myself.”
This week, she was also recognised in Heat magazine’s annual 30 under 30 Rich List, securing the 15th spot with a personal fortune of £8.1 million.
