Best caravanning spot in the UK revealed that’s like ‘going back in time’ with beachfront pubs and tropical gardens
THE Isle of Wight has been named the best caravanning spot in the UK by some top outdoor experts.
Autumn is well and truly in the air, which means many Brits will be ditching their tents in favour of caravan breaks.
The UK’s best caravanning spot has been named as the Isle of Wight[/caption] Villages on the island make visitors feel like they’ve stepped back in time[/caption] Shanklin Beach is one of the most popular beaches on the island[/caption]The Isle of Wight is a popular destination for Brits not looking to head abroad and it turns out, it’s also the best caravanning spot in the country.
Experts at Go Outdoors named the Isle of Wight as the best region in the UK for caravan getaways.
The UK island has 289 hiking trails, 1,126 attractions and 63 campsites for every 1,000 square kilometres.
Some of its most popular attractions include the likes of Quarr Abbey, the Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary and St Mildred’s Church, all of which are free to visit.
It’s easy to see why the Isle of Wight has been named as the best caravanning spot in the country, as the UK is also said to be the sunniest too.
Earlier this year, Research carried out by the Independent, using data from the Met Office, revealed that the Isle of Wight was the only part of the country to have more than five hours of sunshine on average per day, with five hours and eight minutes.
The town that enjoyed the longest spells of sun was Shanklin, a small resort town, considered to be a classic British holiday destination.
Visit Isle of Wight describes it as “the epitome of the British beach resort” and boasts about its abundance of seafront hotels, amusement arcades and crazy golf, among other attractions.
There are 25 beaches on the island for holidaymakers to enjoy – whether that’s a bracing dip or fresh walk.
The beach at Shanklin is one of the better-regarded stretches of shoreline on the Isle of Wight, with its traditional English seafront promenade adding to the seaside resort experience.
There are plenty of attractions on the Isle of Wight including the UK’s oldest theme park, Blackgang Chine.
The theme park opened 180 years ago, and is still continuing to develop its offering.
Earlier this year, Blackgang Chine opened a brand-new beach area for kids and also plans to open a pirate-themed ride too.
The “ghostly ship” will be a classic swinging galleon ride, and will be available for park-goers to use before long.
An opening date for the pirate ship ride is yet to be confirmed.
The island is also home to the last hovercraft in Europe.
The Isle of Wight’s Tropical Gardens have been described as a paradise[/caption] Freshwater Bay is another popular beach on the island[/caption]Other attractions on the UK isle include Ventnor Botanic Gardens and West Wight Alpacas & Llamas.
The Isle of Wight is also home to its fair share of pubs, including the Spy Glass Inn.
Right on sheltered, sandy Ventnor beach, it’s crammed full of pirates’ nicknacks and often has live music.
It’s famed for its pints of fresh prawns, but there is a huge menu that will keep everyone happy.
What's it like on the Isle of Wight?
SUN Journalist Veronica Lorraine recently visited the Isle of Wight, here’s what she thought:
“Stepping foot on the island is like stepping back in time to a perfectly preserved previous era, in the best way possible.
“It reminds me of a reassuring time of bucket-and-spade holidays, beachside penny arcades, village carnivals and buying a quarter of lemon sherbets for 45p.
“Even though it was winter, we couldn’t resist a visit to the seaside town of Ryde, with classic arcades, old-school bowling alleys and restaurants aplenty, all of which took me back to my Eighties holidays.
“But whether or not it was the food shacks on windswept beaches, roaring fires in cosy pubs, or woolly alpacas nuzzling up to us, I truly felt like the island was welcoming me back with open arms.”

A BRITISH TV presenter has told how she was “punched full force” in the face for supporting Donald Trump.
Antonia Harman, 43, claims she was attacked before boarding a British Airways flight to the US, but ended up being the one kicked out of the plane.
Antonia Harman claims she was punched in the face when boarding a flight at Heathrow[/caption] The TV presenter believes the alleged attack was a result of her declaring her support for Donald Trump[/caption] The Brit was on her way to Austin, Texas, to promote her new TV show[/caption]She broke her silence following reports of two women being removed by cops from a flight at Heathrow when a fight erupted over a Trump MAGA hat – and held up departure for two hours.
But energy healer Antonia, from Cornwall, said that is was not what happened.
She was headed to Austin, Texas, to promote her new TV show set to air next month.
The Brit claimed she was punched out of the blue by a “beserk” woman in her 60s on the shuttle bus on the way to the plane.
Antonia said she was having a “very good humoured and friendly” conversation with the American passengers on board, including what to do in Austin and discussing the upcoming election.
But as the bus neared the plane, the presenter – who was with her arm up holding the rail – had a woman walk “straight into her arm”.
She told MailOnline: “I was surprised by that and pulled my arm down out of the way.
“It may have accidentally brushed her face, but no more than that but she went berserk, she looked possessed by a demon.
“She punched me with full force in the face and then moved away.
“I was so shocked and horrified that I burst into tears, I could not believe what had just happened.”
She added: “I’m a big fan of Donald Trump and I make no secret of that, I think you should be able to air your political views without being physically attacked for them.”
After boarding the aircraft, Antonia took her seat in business class and saw the woman head in the opposite direction towards economy,
The presenter said she spent about five minutes crying and shaking before reporting the alleged assault to an in-flight supervisor.
“The woman was identified and lied about what had happened, saying that I had assaulted her, which simply never happened,” Antonia told MailOnline.
“The next thing I knew, seven armed police were entering the plane and I could sense that the mood had turned against me.
“I was told that I would have to leave the plane and was marched off in front of other passengers by these armed officers, it was incredibly humiliating.”
Antonia was reportedly shaking and sobbing so much she collapsed on the floor at Terminal 5.
The appalled Brit said she felt like she took the blame ” despite being the one who was assaulted”.
She cried: “People hate Trump so much that you can’t talk about him – it’s a political war.”
“If nothing else it shows how toxic the atmosphere has become in the lead up to the US election, when a British woman can’t express her admiration for Trump without being punched in the face for it.
“I hope he wins a resounding victory, more now than ever.”
The brawl broke out before passengers boarded a British Airways flight to Austin on Monday[/caption]MAGA CAP BRAWL
According to reports, a brawl broke out as passengers waited to board a British Airways flight on Monday.
One of the women reportedly demanded the red baseball cap — with Republican US Presidential nominee Trump’s Make America Great Again slogan on it — was taken off.
When the Trump supporter refused punches were apparently exchanged in front of passengers in Terminal 5.
The row continued on board the plane bound for Texas, with the pair squaring up in the cabin, according to reports.
The captain called for assistance and cops escorted them both off the aircraft — while they continued to exchange obscenities.
The women were not arrested but were quizzed by police and both made claims of affray against each other, reports say.
Flight BA191, which had been due to depart the airport at 12.10pm, eventually did so at 2.11pm without the two women on board.
The Met Police said earlier this week a probe is continuing into the incident.
A spokesman previously said: “Shortly after 12.45pm on Monday, 28 October, police at Heathrow were made aware of an incident involving two women waiting to board a plane in Terminal 5.
“A woman in her 40s and a woman in her 60s made counter allegations of affray.
“Enquiries are ongoing.”

JAKE PAUL has pumped the breaks on piling on the pounds for his fight against Mike Tyson.
The YouTuber-turned-boxer faces the legendary Tyson on November 15 in a controversial clash scrutinised for the age difference.
Jake Paul had to get down to the cruiserweight limit[/caption]Not only will it mark Netflix’s first foray into live boxing but also Paul’s first fight at heavyweight.
The two were initially due to meet on July 20 but Tyson was forced out after suffering an ulcer flare-up while on a flight.
Paul had bulked up to a huge 230lb (16st 4lb) in preparation for the bout until Iron Mike was forced to withdraw.
Instead, ex-UFC star-turned-bare-knuckle boxer Mike Perry, 32, stepped in as a replacement for a 200lb cruiserweight bout.
So Paul had to dramatically get down to 14st 4lb – losing over TWO STONE in just a month.
He went on to win the fight after six rounds and three knockdowns but strength and conditioning coach Larry Wade admitted it took its toll.
He said: “The last couple of months with Jake has been very challenging.
“You go from thinking about one of the biggest fights in the world with Mike Tyson to deciding that maybe you’re not fighting at all and then kind of relaxing a bit to then find out, boom, week later you’re going to be fighting Mike Perry.

“Two different styles of fighters, two different styles of training. One in which Mike Tyson’s fighting two-minute rounds, Mike Perry’s fighting three-minute rounds which is a different kind of conditioning.
“He had to go back, lock in and get some stuff done on top of the fact we had to drop a lot of weight to get there. Definitely took a team effort.”
Paul, 27, will now fight Tyson, 58, this month but will not go up in weight as much as he did earlier in the year.
Wade revealed: “He needed a break so we took a month off, got right back into it and now we’re getting ready for Mike.
“We’re not as heavy as we were before which is a plus for us. I didn’t want us to go back up but you can guarantee he’s going to be ready fight night.”
Jake Paul training to fight Mike Tyson[/caption] He is not planning to pile on as much weight this time around[/caption]Short on time? The quick full-body workout to tighten and tone in just 4 weeks, from a celeb PT
WHEN time is short – and it certainly can be in the lead-up to Christmas – you need an efficient and quick workout.
With party season around the corner, there is still time to shape up before, and it only takes six key moves.
sarah-lindsay-three-times-winter-945448482[/caption] Olympic speed skater SARAH LINDSAY takes us through an Olympic workout. Train Like an Olympian Clare OReilly[/caption]Sarah Lindsay is a three times winter Olympian, personal trainer and the owner of Roar Fitness gyms.
Sarah, who has trained Piers Morgan, Pixie Lott and Sheridan Smith, recommends a resistance workout that targets multiple muscle groups.
You don’t need to slave away in the gym for hours on end, either.
This circuit should take no more than half an hour.
The extra resistance from using weight will help you to build muscle and burn fat; the key to looking toned.
For the below exercises, Sarah says it’s best to start with 13 to 15 each. Do three rounds, resting for 60 to 90 seconds between.
“This slightly higher rep range is great for conditioning and muscle endurance and also improving intramuscular coordination when learning new exercises,” says Sarah.
If you add more weight over time, you will see results after just four weeks.
To progress your lifting and ensure results, you have to keep challenging your muscles.
When 13 to 15 reps starts to feel easier, increase your weight if you can and reduce your reps to 10 to 12 reps per set.
Be honest with yourself about how hard you’re working! Only you know how hard those final few reps are.
“You should try to lift as much weight as you can for the given reps range- with good form of course,” adds Sarah.
Grab your weights and give these six exercises a try.
1. Chest press
Muscles worked: Chest, shoulders and triceps
Lie back on a bench with feet planted flat on the floor.
Hold a dumbbell in each hand over your chest, palms facing away from your face.
Bring the elbows down so the weights come to your chest. Press the dumbbells up, straightening out your arms back to the start position.
No bench? You can do this on the floor, ensuring your knees are bent and feet are flat on the ground.
Start by holding a dumbbell in each hand over your chest, palms facing away from your face[/caption] Draw your elbows down so the weights come to chest height[/caption]2. Romanian deadlifts
Muscles worked: Posterior chain muscles; the lower back, glutes, hamstrings, and calves
Stand upright with feet shoulder-width apart, holding a dumbbell in each hand. Your arms should hang down in front of your body with palms facing towards you.
Keep the dumbbells close to your legs as you push your bum/hips back and slowly lower your torso down keeping your back flat as you go and retracting your shoulders. Your knees should be soft.
When your dumbbells reach your shins, push through your heels and come back to standing by thrusting the hips forwards.
The more flexible you are in your hamstrings, the easier this move will be!
Push the hips back and hang the arms, holding dumbbells, forwards. You should feel it in the hamstrings[/caption]3. Standing shoulder press
Muscles worked: Shoulders, biceps and core
Stand upright with a dumbbell in each hand, palms facing away from you and elbows out either side.
Slowly press the dumbbells up overhead before lowering them back down to the start position.
Start in this position[/caption] Push the dumbbells over your head[/caption]Want to make it harder?
“A great way of increasing muscle stimulation is to slow the movement right down and increase the time under tension,” says Sarah.
Time under tension is a weightlifting technique that varies the tempo of your exercises.
On a chest press for example, you might want to lower the weights over three seconds and push them back up with power for one second. This would increase the ‘time under tension’.
It works your muscles harder despite using the same weights.
Another way to do it would be to add a pause when under tension. For example, you could stay in the squat position for two to three seconds before driving back up.
4. Shoulder taps
Muscles worked: Shoulders, core, lower back, legs
Get into a high plank position with your toes on the ground and palms directly underneath your shoulders.
Keeping your body as still as possible, without twisting the hips, take your left hand and tap your right shoulder. Then, return to the start and take your right hand and tap your left shoulder.
Keep repeating this, moving slowly and keeping your gaze down. Make sure you complete the allotted number of reps per side.
Shoulder taps[/caption]5. Split squats forward lean
Muscles worked: Lower body, forearms
Stand with your left leg in front of your right, holding a dumbbell in each hand, arms hanging down either side of your body.
Your legs should be wide apart as your bend both knees, lowering yourself closer to the ground, but whilst doing so, lean forward so your front leg takes most of the weight.
Your front knee should align with your front toe and your back knee should hover above the floor. Then, push up through your front heel to rise.
Make sure you complete the allotted number of reps per side.
Start in this stance, with your left leg in front of your right[/caption] As you go into a static lunge, lean forwards[/caption]6. Squats
Muscles worked: Glutes, quads
Stand upright holding one dumbbell in both hands, close to your chest. Your legs should be just wider than hip width apart and toes should point out slightly.
Push your hips back and bend your knees (as though you were going to sit down) as you lower down into a squat position, maintaining a flat back throughout.
When your thighs are parallel to the ground, push up through your heels to return to standing.
Depending on the weights you have available, you might want to use two dumbbells and hold one in each hand, resting them on your shoulders as you squat.
Squat position[/caption]How to get abs
A number of factors contribute to having ‘abs’ – defined abdominal muscles in the midsection.
Calorie deficit
No matter how many ab workouts you do, you may not see the results if you are carrying a lot of extra weight.
While it’s still worth doing ab and core workouts, lose body fat by focusing on eating a calorie deficit, which is when you eat less calories than you are burning.
You can use a calculator such as https://tdeecalculator.net/ to figure out how many calories to eat based on your goals and how much activity you do.
Sarah says: “Everyone has abs but having visible abs purely comes down to how much body fat you have on your stomach.
“Cardio can help achieve a calorie deficit which can help you lose body fat but I don’t believe cardio alone is the best method of getting and staying leaner.”
Nutrition
Sarah says that nutrition plays a much larger role – ‘abs are made in the kitchen’, as the saying goes.
When it comes to what you should be eating, Sarah says that no foods in particular are bad for abs.
“Focus on the quality of your food to optimise health, as a healthy well functioning body will achieve goals faster,” she says.
It’s wise to eat enough so you can perform well at work and during your workouts; a balanced plate of wholesome carbs, proteins and fats is ideal.
Try Greek yoghurt with berries and oats for breakfast, a chicken salad with rice and greens for lunch, and fish, vegetables and potatoes or something similar for dinner.
Weight training
It’s also key to include weight training into your week as well as specific core training workouts, such as the one above.
Sarah says: “The more muscle you have, the higher your metabolic rate which means you burn more calories at rest.
“This effectively means you can eat more (which means more nutrients) and not gain body fat.”
Plus, Sarah adds that the core is also hugely challenged in most weight training moves.
“For example I would argue that a back squat is as much of a core exercise for most people as it is a leg exercise,” she says.
If you’re new to weight training, start by using just your bodyweight and work up from there.
The TRUTH behind Meghan & Harry’s Portugal house – it’s a sign they’ve realised they need new plan
PRINCE Harry and Meghan Markle’s Portugal pad purchase is a sign they’ve realised they need a new plan, claims a royal expert.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have snapped up a luxurious property in Alentejo, Portugal – with speculation it could be a new base for the pair and their two kids.
Harry and Meghan Markle attend the UK Team Trials for the Invictus Games in Sydney 2018[/caption] The Sussexes have bought a new pad in Portugal and are not planning on living in it themselves[/caption]But sources claim the truth behind the buy isn’t so they have somewhere in Europe to call home.
Royal reporter Bronte Coy told The Sun’s Royal Exclusive show that it’s more of an investment for Harry and Meghan to ensure they “keep their millions”.
She said: “It speaks to the fact that it has been probably not the post royal career that they had thought financially.
“Their Spotify deal ended last year and their Netflix deal is coming to an end and they haven’t produced as much as they thought they were going to.
“They do have to have another plan.
“I mean at the end of the day there has been so much speculation and conversation over the last couple of years, after they had done the Harry and Meghan series and talked about the royals a lot.
“[When] that felt like it was kind of done… What next?
“I think it probably is a great investment so it makes sense that they’ve probably had the thought – ‘What next? What else can we do?’.
“It seems like a solid investment and it seems like they are turning their attention to other avenues of earning money.”
The purchase comes as Harry continues to make solo UK appearances – with Meghan refusing to step foot in the country.
But now it gives her the option to fly and stay just two-and-a-half-hours away from London if Harry has an event anywhere in the continent.
Meghan has reluctantly returned to the UK just twice since the Sussexes stepped down as working royals in 2020.
Both of the visits were in 2022, with the first being the late Queen’s Jubilee and then her funeral.
Prince Harry’s trips have been more frequent, with him doing four visits this year.
Prince Harry and Meghan have begun investing their Netflix millions in a property portfolio[/caption]In September the Duke of Sussex, 40, made a solo trip to attend the WellChild Awards where he met seriously ill youngsters and their families.
The couple – who live with their two kids in California – are said to have splashed out on the home in Portugal after being asked to vacate their former UK home Frogmore Cottage by King Charles two years ago.
It is said to be close to Harry’s cousin Princess Eugenie, Jack, August, two, and Ernest, five months, who are said to be splitting their time between living at the CostaTerra Golf and Ocean Club and their life back in the UK.
The reason for the move is Jack’s job, as he is doing marketing, sales and promotion for property entrepreneur Mike Meldman, who is managing the 300-home development there.
The purchase may allow the Sussexes to acquire a “Golden Visa”, where they would have access to the EU’s Schengen area, reports the Daily Mail.
It will give them a base to stop off at whenever they make transatlantic flights to see friends and family, or make appearances at events.
It comes after it was reported Harry and Meghan have begun investing their Netflix millions in a property portfolio.
They pocketed £75million from streaming giant Netflix where they laid into fellow royals in a six-part series.
Meanwhile Harry, who got a £15million advance for his autobiography Spare, also inherited £8million from the late Queen Mother after turning 40 in September.
Palace insiders have been concerned about what will happen when the Sussexes run out of cash.
They have huge overheads, forking out a fortune on security in the US and for when Harry visits the UK.
And they are still paying a mortgage on the £11million Montecito mansion they bought after quitting as working royals in 2020.
Insiders say the Portugal home will be part of a financial portfolio which will include more real estate.
But the couple still do not own a home in the UK following their eviction from Frogmore Cottage last year.

However, there was a reason for his choice of a more flamboyant outfit.
Soccer Saturday host Simon Thomas asked him to wear the yellow suit on his return.
Merson followed through with the request as he stunned in the studio.
He insisted he would be wearing the suit for the whole show as he did not bring “any other clobber”.

A TOP BBC show judge has quit their series in a shock move – and been replaced by a Celebrity Big Brother star instead.
The line-up shake-up was revealed in the trailer for the new season – and fans have claimed they are “already obsessed.”

Former Strictly star Michelle has starred on the show franchise, aired in the UK on the BBC, since the US series in 2011, yet has only hosted an episode solo once.
A show trailer for the fourth Aussie series starts with the narrator stating: “The new host of Drag Race Down Under, Michelle Visage.”
Dressed in a sparkling body-con dress, Michelle then addressed the camera and said: “Start your engines, and may the best drag queen win.”
The camera then panned to a teaser of the series and saw Michelle say: “We’re back!
“And you’re in Michelle’s house now.”
In a statement, RuPaul – who will continue to act as executive producer for the series – addressed the switch up.
They said: “It has been my great honour to bring Drag Race to Australasia.
“I can’t wait to see the franchise continue to flourish under the leadership of the incredible Michelle Visage.”
Much-loved Michelle, who hosted a Drag Race season 4 episode in the UK, said: “Thank you, RuPaul, for entrusting me with one of your beloved shows.
“The colour, humour, and outrageousness of Down Under drag holds a special place in my heart.
“I’m ready to do everything in my power to encourage these beautiful queens to believe in themselves and let their inner light shine through.”
