Another evil Hamas chief who helped plan depraved Oct 7 attack has been wiped out in Israeli airstrike

A HAMAS commander who killed a British-Israeli citizen and worked for the UN’s aid agency in Gaza has been wiped out.

Terrorist Mohammed Abu Itiwi helped mastermind last year’s October 7 massacres.

IDF
Hamas chief Mohammad Abu Itiwi, thought to have been involved in the brutal attack on October 7, has been killed by Israel[/caption]

He led the killing and kidnapping of music festival fans, including British-Israeli citizen Aner Shapira, from a roadside bomb shelter.

Dashcam footage showed fanatic Abu Itiwi hurling grenades at Aner, 22, and his unarmed pals.

Aner, whose mum was born in Oxford, managed to throw seven back but died when the eighth exploded.

Abu Itiwi, who worked for UN refugee agency UNWRA, was killed last month when his vehicle was hit by an air strike in Gaza.

UNWRA confirmed his death and said he had worked there since July 2022.

Aner’s architect dad Moshe said: “I’m happy he is dead, not because I want revenge, but because he can’t kill anyone again.

“Aner gave his life for others — that is the most human thing one can do.”

Last night, Israeli military chiefs said fighter jets eliminated Itiwi in a strike targeting his vehicle in central Gaza.

A spokesperson said: “Abu Itiwi was involved in the murder and abduction of Israeli civilians.

“He led the murderous attack on the bomb shelter on Route 232 in the area of Re’im in southern Israel.

“Throughout the war, Abu Itiwi directed and carried out numerous attacks on IDF troops operating in the Gaza Strip.”

Ultra-quiet 937mph Nasa plane would make London to NYC trip in 3.5 hours with ‘sonic thump’ instead of ‘banned’ boom

a nasa jet is flying over a body of water

AN experimental Nasa airplane that “quietly” flies faster than the speed of sound could zoom from London to New York in around 3.5 hours.

The supersonic aircraft is called the X-59 Quesst – and will cruise at altitudes of 55,000 feet at speeds of 937mph.

Nasa and Lockheed Martin showed off the X-59 in Palmdale, California earlier this year[/caption]

The supersonic aircraft doesn’t have a front window – and instead uses a camera to let the pilot see[/caption]

That’s far above the speed of sound, which is around 767mph.

And it’s well above the 575mph cruising speed of a Boeing 747 at 35,000 feet.

Importantly, the X-59 Quesst would have a low enough noise level to be able to fly over land.

Currently, commercial passenger planes are banned from going at such speeds – if they were able to – over land in the UK and US on account of the noise levels.

But Nasa has teamed up with Lockheed Martin to build an aircraft that solves this problem – just by being quiet.

“We had a commercial supersonic aircraft, the Concorde,” explained Lori Ozoroski, a project manager at Nasa, speaking during an official podcast.

“But it was limited during its flights that it could not fly, say into, you know, somewhere in the middle of the U.S. You were not allowed to fly supersonic over land.

“So most of the flights were back and forth just over the ocean. And so again, that ban has been in place for 50 years, over 50 years in the U.S. A lot of international countries as well have similar bans.

“And so the whole goal of this research that we’re doing right now is to lift that ban and set a speed limit for commercial supersonic aircraft rather than a speed limit.”

The airplane is long and narrow, and is designed specifically to reduce noise.

And it’s expected to begin proper flight testing as soon as this year.

According to Cathy Bahm, who also works on the project at Nasa, it would simply “create a quiet thump on the ground”.

Lori added: “The sound level is more like – we’ve done studies – it’s more like a car door closing, you know, across the street at your neighbor’s house rather than the very loud typical sonic boom.”

Despite being an “experimental” craft, the X-59 is well on its way to being trialled in flight.

The X-59 has a 38-foot-long nose and promises to make a “sonic thump” rather than a “sonic boom” when flying overhead[/caption]

It’s been through structural testing to see if it can withstand the right forces.

And there’s an ejection seat that’s been installed and inspected – ready for a potential pilot bail-out, if needed.

Next comes engine testing, and then eventually a full manned flight test.

“In just a few short years we’ve gone from an ambitious concept to reality,” said Pam Melroy, Nasa’s deputy administrator.

The cockpit is located almost halfway down the length of the aircraft – and does not have a forward-facing window

Nasa

“NASA’s X-59 will help change the way we travel, bringing us closer together in much less time.”

Once flight tests are completed, Nasa will then fly the aircraft over several US cities.

The space agency will then be able to capture data about how much sound is really being generated on the ground – and how people feel about it.

Nasa hopes that its breakthrough craft will inspire future generations of airplanes with similarly quiet designs.

Nasa hopes the quiet airplane will enable commercial supersonic travel over land[/caption]

“At 99.7 feet long and 29.5 feet wide, the aircraft’s shape and the technological advancements it houses will make quiet supersonic flight possible,” Nasa explains.

“The X-59’s thin, tapered nose accounts for almost a third of its length and will break up the shock waves that would ordinarily result in a supersonic aircraft causing a sonic boom.

“Due to this configuration, the cockpit is located almost halfway down the length of the aircraft – and does not have a forward-facing window.

“Instead, the Quesst team developed the eXternal Vision System, a series of high-resolution cameras feeding a 4K monitor in the cockpit.”

NASA'S X-59 TIMELINE

Here's the official timeline from Nasa...

Phase 1: Aircraft Development
2018-2024

NASA anticipates that initial flights to prove performance and safety (also known as “envelope expansion”) will take about nine months. At the successful conclusion of these flights, NASA will officially take delivery of the aircraft from Lockheed Martin.

Phase 2: Acoustic Validation
2025

NASA will fly the X-59 within the supersonic test range over NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center and Edwards Air Force Base in California to prove the quiet supersonic technology works as designed, aircraft performance is robust in real atmospheric conditions, and the X-59 is safe for operations in the National Airspace System.

Phase 3: Community Response Study
2026-2028

The agency will use the X-59 to gather data on how effective the quiet technology is in terms of public acceptance. This will be done by flying over select U.S. cities beginning in 2026 and asking residents to share their response to the sound the X-59 produces.

Final Data to Regulators
2030

NASA will provide a complete analysis of the community response data to U.S. and international regulators for their use in considering new sound-based rules regarding quiet supersonic flight over land. Such rules could enable new commercial cargo and passenger markets in faster-than-sound air travel. This will be turned over when the mission ends.

Nasa says that the aircraft is due to set off “for the first time later this year”.

Gardener shares easy way to make orchid blooms last for months – and no, it’s not using fertiliser

WE ALL take pride in keeping our houseplants alive.

And while an orchid is easy to look after, its flowers can fall off in a matter of weeks, leaving a stick in the pot for months.

There’s an easy way to make orchid flowers last longer[/caption]

Thankfully, a gardening expert has shared a clever hack to make their blooms last for months instead of weeks.

Tony Le-Britton from the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) has shared one of his tips for ensuring orchid flowers “last longer”.

And while many may have thought fertiliser was the key to success, it turns out to be a lot easier than feeding your plant.

In a video on YouTube, the houseplant pro suggested changing your orchid’s position to get the flowers to last longer.

He said: “Now, the best position for an orchid is somewhere bright.

“Most people like to have it within their home when it’s flowering, which is absolutely fine and with less light, the flowers will probably last a little bit longer.”

But if your orchid plant isn’t flowering yet and you want it to grow more leaves, you need to place it somewhere sunny.

He suggested, “an east- or west-facing windowsill, a north-facing windowsill, or a position a couple of metres back from a south-facing windowsill is perfect.”

Tony continued: “If you can get a little bit of direct sun on its leaves, either early in the morning or in the evening, it’s going to be most happy.

“Pop it in its bright position and within a few months you should see the start of a flower spike just emerging under one of the leaves.”

During the winter months, plants can be placed in windowsills to get direct sunlight and encourage growth.

But in summer months, it is best to keep the plant away from direct sun as this can scorch the orchid’s leaves.

Other plant experts from Stelrard have shared the houseplants that have few care requirements compared to other options.

Money trees were said to be one of the top options for people who are not green fingered.

How to transform your garden on a cheap budget

How to preserve your favourite flowers at home – 5 easy tips explained

Which plants should I be wary about my dog being around?

When is the best time to prune roses?

When should I start planting daffodil bulbs?

How high can a garden fence be and can it be taller than my neighbours?

What colour of fence paint makes a garden look bigger?

Will my garden plants still grow if my backyard doesn’t receive any sun?

The experts told The Express: “Who says money doesn’t grow on trees? Well not literally with the money tree, but it is believed to bring good luck to whoever owns this plant.

Another low-maintenance plant which is very popular is Devil’s Ivy.

The experts say they are very adaptable to different spots in your home, and do well indoors or in a shaded outdoor spot.

All they need is a little bit of indirect sunlight and some water whenever the soil feels like it needs some moisture.

Fury as Iran arms fixer dodges deportation from Britain thanks to EU human rights laws

AN Iran arms fixer has dodged being deported from Britain thanks to EU human rights laws.

Mohammad Hakim-Hashemi, pictured above, claimed he could be tortured if returned to Tehran.

He was jailed in the US in 2012 after admitting breaching an arms embargo by trying to buy military aircraft parts for Iran’s air force.

Hakim-Hashemi, 67, was living in Britain under a spousal visa when he was arrested in Prague in 2012, extradited to the US and jailed for 27 months.

The court in America heard he had been hired as a middleman to make money transfers and arrange shipping of the aircraft engine parts to Iran via Malaysia.

On his release from prison in 2014 he was returned to the UK as his last country of residence.

Hakim-Hashemi put in a claim for asylum, which was refused in 2019.

He was allowed to stay pending an appeal.

An initial appeal to a first-tier immigration tribunal was rejected later that year.

Hakim-Hashemi’s lawyers then invoked the controversial European Convention on Human Rights.

They claimed he had a “well-founded fear of persecution” by Iran’s religious police and could face “torture, inhuman treatment and degrading punishment” if sent home.

His appeal was allowed by an upper tier judge.

Outside his £500,000 flat in Sunningdale, Berks, this week Hakim-Hashemi told The Sun: “I’m happy to stay.”

He refused to say why he felt he would be persecuted if sent home.

Tory MP Sir Alec Shelbrooke insisted: “Once again, Tony Blair’s Human Rights Act has overruled common sense.

“The fact this man was able to come straight back in shows fundamentally that we don’t know who is here and who isn’t.”

Future of beloved BBC chat show revealed months after it was shelved by bosses

A WEEK after Baddiel and Skinner returned to the sofa for Gogglebox, I can reveal another duo are ready to reclaim their couch.

Chris Ramsey and his wife Rosie are dusting off their BBC chat show ready for a third series.

Simon Webb/Avalon

It comes after the broadcaster was forced to shelve the popular programme over a schedule clash.

But now producers Avalon have begun work on a new run, which is expected to air next year.

Having won an army of fans with their award-winning podcast Sh**ged Married Annoyed, the couple got off to a flying start when they transferred to telly in 2022.

So much so, bosses promoted them from BBC Two to BBC One for the second series.

An insider said: “The BBC absolutely love Chris and Rosie, they’re a hilariously entertaining duo but most importantly, real, so it was a proper blow when they couldn’t get a third series underway.

“The show was shelved until schedules could align and everyone is thrilled that work can now begin ahead of next year.”

Execs have begun casting for couples, siblings, or pals for a new segment of the show, too.

A note for a format point called It Goes or I Go has been posted, asking: “Does someone you love have something you hate? Now’s your chance to finally get rid of it, for good.”

The Chris & Rosie Ramsey Show sees the married stars invite another celebrity couple onto the sofa for a candid chinwag on their relationship.

Fans watched as Chris and Rosie probed the stars on their pet peeves, parenting issues, and bust-ups.

Big names including Martin and Shirlie Kemp, Craig Revel Horwood and his fiance Jonathan Myring, plus Ronan and Storm Keating and Fred Sirieix and his fiance Fruitcake appeared during the run.

Maybe Baddiel and Skinner would be up for it.

Carol’s maths lesson

Carol Vorderman was the resident maths whizz on Countdown for more than two decades.

But that doesn’t mean that she was studious when she was at school.

Ahead of her time on Romesh Ranganathan’s Parents’ Evening, Carol admitted: “I was always cheeky, always at the back of the class – but always at the top of the class.”

And she is left red-faced over a maths error on the ITV1 game show – which airs on Saturday at 9.10 pm – and receives a savage put-down from her son Cameron.

When the prize pot is reduced as a result of her mistake, she shouts: “We won’t have any money left!”

To which son Cameron quips back: “Yes, that’s how numbers work…”

Lorraine Kelly guest hosts an episode of Have I Got News For You this month.

The daytime TV star will be joined by comic Maisie Adam and radio host Matt Chorley on November 22 at 9 pm on BBC One.

Lorraine said: “The first time I did it was 20 years ago! I can’t wait!”

He’s no stranger to a road trip after travelling the world with Gordon Ramsay and Gino D’Acampo on their now-defunct self-titled ITV series.

But now Fred Sirieix is heading off all by himself to film his own version of the Tour de France with a cycling adventure through Ireland.

The ITV five-parter will see the host make his way from Dublin to Donegal, as he explores the culture and history of the Emerald Isle and immerses himself in local life.

Fred said: “I’ve always wanted to spend some quality time in Ireland to explore the land, learn about the people, plus its food and culture.

“Travelling by bike can bring you even closer to a place.

“I can’t wait to get started!”

Leanne Clarke, assistant commissioner ITV, said: “There will be lots in store for Fred and our viewers in this new challenge!”

Anne-Marie Duff is among the famous faces bringing classic Brit novels to life as The Read returns this month for a third series.

The BBC show includes readings of Wuthering Heights, Jekyll and Hyde, and A Christmas Carol.

Sacha Dhawan and Vinette Robinson will also read tales.

I had two choices – either pick up the phone and ask for help or die, admits ex-Man City midfielder Jeff Whitley

JEFF WHITLEY has bravely opened up about his battle with addiction and recovery from the depths of despair.

The 45-year-old starred for Manchester City and Sunderland and earned 20 caps for Northern Ireland between 1997-2005.

Whitley’s cocaine use began during his addiction to alcohol

But behind the scenes, battles with alcohol and drugs led to problems off the pitch, including bankruptcy and a spell in rehab.

Now in a position to help others, Whitley, who is the PFA’S player welfare executive, wants to raise awareness of the dangers behind addiction.

He told the BBC: “Nearly every club had moved me on because of the off the pitch antics. Not being able to keep it together or say no to some of the times I went out.

“I didn’t know how to keep it under control or even understand what the problem was.

“Eventually the drink and the drugs really started to escalate.

“I had two choices. I either keep doing what I’m doing and maybe die, or I pick up the phone and ask for help.”

After getting to the point of where he was “sick of feeling this way”, Whitley knew he had to make a change.

He phoned the Professional Footballers’ Association for help and, in a time frame that left him “amazed”, he was assessed by Sporting Chance before going through treatment and rehab for 26 days.

FOOTBALL FREE BETS AND SIGN UP DEALS

He exclusively revealed to The Sun in 2019: “I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror and thought, ‘I don’t know who that guy is.’ I’d completely lost myself.

“When you’re young and you’ve got a few quid in your pocket, it can be quite exciting and highly addictive.

“But you go from being super confident and chatty to wanting to be on your own in complete isolation.”

Whitley has been sober since entering rehab, but still continues to attend AA meetings and therapy.

Former Man City midfielder Whitley's cocaine use began during his addiction to alcohol
Former Man City midfielder Whitley now devotes his time to helping others

And after years of drug taking drove one of his brothers, Jack, to suicide in 2017, Whitley knows just how brutal substance abuse can be.

In 2019, he backed The Sun’s End of The Line campaign to help raise awareness of the devastating dangers of cocaine and its impact on mental health.

He explained: “You’re almost chasing that high from when you first took it, thinking that next line is going to be like the first one you took.

“The insane paranoia is mind-blowing. Call it curtan-twitching- any siren, any noise, you think they’re after you. It’s a proper frightening place to be. “

Whitley was shipped out on loan to Wrexham and Notts County during the final three years of his City contract, before joining Sunderland in 2003.

He explained that the Black Cats, and later Cardiff, then “moved him on” for his off-field antics.

His growing addictions ultimately led to his international career coming to a premature end after scoring two goals.

Northern Ireland‘s 1-0 win over England at Windsor Park in 2005 is one of the most famous nights in the country’s history.

However, Whitley had to watch it from home after being sent away from the camp by manager Lawrie Sanchez for going out with team-mate Philip Mulryne.

I was sick of being on this hamster wheel of living that way. You’re not living, you’re just existing.

Whitley was still playing at a high level for Cardiff, but the damage was done. He would never play for Northern Ireland again.

After being left jobless at the end his football career, he briefly worked in car sales before turning his attentions to using his experiences to help others.

Jeff Whitley's PFA Work

JEFF WHITLEY is part of the PFA’s Wellbeing department which provides support to more than 50,000 members.

They offer a 24/7 helpline, a national network of counsellors, and a residential rehab at Sporting Chance Clinic.

Fellowships, such as Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Cocaine Anonymous (CA), are available as well with 12-step sponsored programme.

The programme provides a solution and 12 steps of how to live life and implement those principles into daily life.

The PFA Wellbeing team provide individual action plans for members on issues ranging from anxiety, depression, alcohol, drug use and gambling.

They also go into all 92 clubs to assess players and educate Under-18s, U23s, first-team, women’s teams and staff on the dangers of alcohol and drug use.

Any current and former PFA members can contact the Wellbeing team with emotional issues on its email address: wellbeing@thepfa.co.uk

Whitley added that he understands that some players may not want to pick up the phone or ask for help.

“I know how difficult it was for me to reach out. I was sick of being on this hamster wheel of living that way. You’re not living, you’re just existing.

“When you are abusing your body with alcohol and drugs, and stuff like that, then you are going to go one of two ways.

“Some of the people are not at that point. Just don’t hesitate to reach out, that’s what I would say.”
