I banned the ‘slutty’ Halloween costume my 14-year-old picked – and I’m judging her friends’ mums for their skimpy looks

SCROLLING through the images of Halloween costumes online, my jaw drops in sheer horror.

Not because the outfits are especially spooky, as you might expect, but because they’re almost eye-poppingly ‘sexy’.

Some are positively X-rated, like something you’d find in a Soho sex shop.

The worst offender, a red fishnet devil dress with numerous cut-out sections, leaves almost nothing to the imagination.

And the scariest thing of all? This is the outfit my 14-year-old daughter wants to wear on fright night.

Ever since she was little, Cassie* has adored dressing up for Halloween.

She loves picking out her costume and, like most kids, gets a thrill from knocking on neighbours’ doors and bagging free sweets.

Each year, she and her friends walk around our estate, all dressed as witches, cats or skeletons. It’s all just a bit of harmless, innocent fun.

Sadly though, times have changed. Cassie turned 14 last month and this years’ costume request has really spooked me out.

This Halloween, she has been pleading with me to buy her the revealing £45 She Devil outfit.

It’s a red fishnet ‘dress’ – and I use that word loosely, as there is very little material involved, with cut-outs around the cleavage, midriff and at the sides.

It comes complete with red wings, devil horns and a fork. And of course, she wants sky-high red PVC boots to go with it.

To me, it looks like something you’d buy from Victoria’s Secret or Ann Summers, rather than a fancy dress shop.

I took one glance and gave her a firm ‘no’, but many of my mum friends seem to have given up the fight.

Cassie’s pals have bought slutty vampire and witch outfits and one is apparently going out dressed as a ‘cheerleader zombie’, in a dress so short it leaves almost nothing to the imagination.

Another girl says she’ll be wearing tie-up faux leather leggings with cat ears.

When I asked her mother if she thought it was appropriate, she told me she thought there was little harm and said she was worried that by making it out of bounds, her teen would only want it even more.

I gave her a firm ‘no’, but many mum friends have given up the fight.

But these are the same parents who let their kids roll up their skirts and wear fake lashes to school.

I put my foot down whenever I can with this stuff, but I can’t stop her hitching up her skirt once she’s out of sight.

However, I’m not paying hundreds of pounds for fake lashes and acrylic nails.

Surely we have to start setting boundaries for our children?

I believe that allowing them to dress in these kinds of outfits is hugely damaging. We’re basically teaching young girls that they are something to be viewed by others and sexualised, rather than a person with a brain and a personality.

More mums should have a backbone like me when it comes to what their kids wear. If their children get unwanted attention when out trick or treating, it’s the parents’ fault.

What to do if your child wants to wear an innapropriate Halloween costume

Chartered psychologist Dr Louise Goddard-Crawley says: “Addressing a situation where a 14-year-old wants to wear a revealing Halloween costume can be challenging for parents, especially when they might feel torn between respecting their teenager’s independence and feeling concerned about the implications of such an outfit.

It’s understandable for parents to feel protective and anxious about societal pressures or how their child may be perceived, especially during a time when setting boundaries feels crucial.

For this mum, it’s also important to empathise with the daughter, who is at an age where she’s exploring her identity, testing limits, and figuring out how to express herself.

The goal is not to shame the choice, but to help teenagers understand the context and potential impact of their clothing. Parents can start by approaching the conversation with curiosity and openness, rather than judgement. For example, they can be curious about what their child likes about the costume and why it appeals to them.

Use this as an opportunity to discuss topics like consent, self-respect, and how different outfits can influence others’ perceptions.

Perhaps offering alternatives that still feel exciting, but strike a balance between style and appropriateness can be helpful.

By acknowledging your own feelings and validating your daughter’s perspective, you can foster a balanced dialogue that hopefully respects her need for autonomy while also guiding her towards making thoughtful choices.

Essentially, it’s not about shutting down your daughter’s choices, but helping her find a way to express herself that feels right for both of you. Maybe you could work together to find a fun, creative costume that still feels empowering.

All girls want to look good, but it’s up to us to teach them about boundaries and what is appropriate and what is not.

Some parents can’t face the constant arguments with their children, but if you let them get away with it now, it will only get worse and perhaps the girls will be sl*t-shamed and come home upset.

Then you’ll have to pick up the pieces later.

I looked online to try to find a compromise and was utterly horrified by some of the outfits on sale.

Online fashion giant Shein even has a so-called ‘sexy pumpkin’ outfit for £10.25. Since when have pumpkins been sexy, for goodness sake?

Many of these outfits, complete with stilettos and six-inch heels, used to belong in fetish shop windows. But it appears now they have left the shadowy enclaves of those establishments and have become mainstream, ready for fright night.

More mums should have a backbone like me when it comes to what their kids wear

Halloween should be a time for people to show off their creativity, not their knickers.

It reminded me of the film Mean Girls, where Lindsay Lohan‘s character cleverly says: “Halloween is the one night a year when a girl can dress like a total sl*t and no other girls can say anything about it.”

While that might be true, it seems girls are now routinely pressured into being sexy. But there’s a fine line between sexy and ‘slutty’.

In the film, Lohan’s character ended up dressing as a zombie bride, while most of the others wore lingerie and animal ears.

Of course, my daughter wasn’t happy with me when I said no. She has been sulking in her room for days, but I don’t care. I’ve got to do what is in her best interests. She is only a child.

Boys certainly don’t feel the same pressure to show off their bodies. Most of them are still in vampire or ghost costumes, with the emphasis on humour, rather than anything remotely sexual.

In contrast, the pressure on the girls to fit in by being sexy is immense.

Cassie is still angry at me for denying her the right to show off her still-developing body, but I won’t apologise for being a responsible parent.

Sometimes you have to trust your instincts, no matter how much it upsets them.

Once she is 18, Cassie can make her own decisions. But for now, I’m sticking to my guns. She’s only 14 and I won’t let her out trick or treating or to any Halloween party dressed like a sl*t.

Now Wynne has revealed his backstage struggle two days before the live shows

Their Rumba, which is for the show’s special Icons week, has left Wynne worrying as he reveals one huge concern.

Talking to It Takes Two he said: “Rumba I’m enjoying but I don’t know if I’m doing it right. I’ve got concerns about the hips. The hips, the hips, the hips.”

Katya then showed her support, saying, “The hips are getting looser. Wynne’s got beautifully shaped long legs so if we can put the legs with the hips, it’ll be perfection.”

“Can we get there by Saturday, who knows?”

Wynne had already admitted to feeling anxious about his upcoming dance, telling fans during an Instagram Q&A: “I don’t know. I don’t look at what’s coming up. I just have to focus on getting through this week.”

“I’m now the oldest and the fattest, so the fact I’ve made it this far is incredible.”

“So just focus on this week and getting through this week and then we’ll see if I’m there next week.”

“There’s a lot of hips in the rumba, I may have actually discovered where my hips are.”

It’s been a rocky road to reach the Rumba.

The 52-year-old singer has faced a huge backlash following a ‘grope’ incident with Katya Jones, which left the couple having to publicly apologise for what they called an ‘inside joke.’

Wynne admitted to feeling ‘heartbroken’ after their joke was misconstrued.

The pair posted a video on Instagram assuring everyone they were just messing around and it had been taken out of context.

However he said: “I’m absolutely heartbroken by the things that have been written about me in the last day.”

“It’s not nice to live in that time, but basically Katya and I are really, really close and we’re really good friends, and on Saturday night we made a stupid joke.”

He continued: “She wasn’t offended in the least. She doesn’t feel uncomfortable.”

“We’ve got a brilliant friendship, an absolutely tight friendship, and I’m sorry if anybody was offended by it, but it was a joke. And that’s all there is. There is no real story, really.”

“I feel weird apologising becaise I feel like I’ve not really done anything.”

Former Chelsea star who was ‘better than Cristiano Ronaldo’ opens up on his new porn career

FORMER Chelsea star Fabio Paim has lifted the lid on his new career in porn,

The Portuguese, 36, came through the ranks at Sporting Lisbon before a loan spell at Stamford Bridge in 2008.

Aged 36 he has made a dramatic career change[/caption]

Paim only played for the Blues’ reserve side during his West London stint, and failed to emulate Cristiano Ronaldo‘s Sporting exploits, despite going on to make several bold claims about the forward.

After revealing last month that he was eyeing a new career in porn, the former winger recently starred in his first film.

Speaking to Globo Esporte about his shock switch, Paim said: “Here in Portugal [the porn film] is all the rage, everyone is going crazy.

“Do you know why? Because people don’t take it the wrong way, that’s just how I am.

“On a podcast, I said that my dream was to be a pornographic actor. I got a lot of offers.

“I was on the news, I was on the front pages of newspapers… And I hadn’t done anything.

“Since everyone was talking about it, [I thought] let’s make a film. And I did. I’ll tell you one thing. It’s good to have sex and still get paid for it.”

Paim was three years below Ronaldo in Sporting’s academy.

Speaking about the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, Paim said: “He grew up with me, we spent a long time together.

“I was Sporting’s number one at that time. Cristiano started to be Cristiano when he went to Manchester. Even then, nobody knew he would become what he is today.

“Today Cristiano is the king, Paim is nobody. And people say ‘oh, he’s a liar, he wasn’t better’. But the truth is that I was better than him and everyone knows that. I had more talent.

“But talent is nothing, talent is just a little bit. If you don’t have the rest, you’ll be nobody.”

Following Paim’s debut porn film, he earned rave reviews from co-star Diana Cu de Melancia.

She said: “We thought he was going to be nervous and it wouldn’t work out – but Fabio turned out to be a lion.

“He was good at football and he is good at porn. He’s going to be a success.

“I hope this film is the first of many with Paim.”

‘DREAMS COME TRUE’

He added: “It’s difficult being in front of the cameras but I did it and I think I have got talent for this.

“I got a lot of pleasure and made two dreams come true, making the film and being with two spectacular women.”

Paim has also made bold claims about Ronaldo’s Ballons d’Or awards.

He told SunSport last year: “If I speak about technique, I was better. I was a small Ronaldinho. But as we can see, it’s not the technique that leads us to wherever.

“But yes at that time I was better than Cristiano. I believe he should give me one of his Ballons d’Or!

Paim was accused of rape in 2012 and 2015, although neither allegation went to trial.

In 2019 he was then arrested on suspicion of drugs trafficking and forced to go to prison before eventually being cleared.

Mike Tyson’s blunt 10-word response to Eddie Hearn after promoter calls Jake Paul fight ‘disrespectful to boxing’

MIKE TYSON has hit back after Eddie Hearn slammed his fight against Jake Paul as “disrespectful to boxing”.

Tyson returns to the ring on November 15 in Texas for a controversial clash with Paul scrutinised due to the huge age gap between them.

Eddie Hearn has hit out at the fight[/caption]

Hearn – who promotes the rematch between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano on the undercard – has been among the most critical.

He blasted it as “dangerous, irresponsible and disrespectful to boxing” and vowed to leave the stadium early to NOT watch the bout.

But Iron Mike – who could strike fear into opponents’ eyes with just a glare – had an equally blunt response when probed on Hearn’s comments.

He said: “Well, that’s Eddie’s opinion and that’s all I can say.”

Tyson, 58, is now 15 years removed from his last professional fight, the night he quit on the stool against Kevin McBride.

But he did return in 2020 for an exhibition bout against Roy Jones Jr which was drawn over eight rounds.

It was nothing more than a glorified sparring session between two of boxing’s most respected figures.

Although when he shares the ring with 27-year-old – Paul things will be different.

CASINO SPECIAL – BEST CASINO WELCOME OFFERS

It will be a pro sanctioned bout, with records going on the line and competed over eight two-minute rounds – opposed to the usual three.

Tyson – who pulled out of the initial July 20 date due to an ulcer flare up – will also be subject to additional brain and heart tests due to his age.

And the fight will mark Netflix’s first foray into live boxing – with a huge purse of £60MILLION to be shared down the middle between them.

But Tyson – who blew through nearly £300m of boxing purses during his prime – insisted the fight is NOT money-motivated.

He said: “The money from this fight is not going to change my lifestyle. This is not for financial reasons.

“My life is not gonna change, not 1 per cent after this fight, I will always be able to live this way and I’m just doing it because I wanna test myself.”

Lockie has suffered a serious injury to his right eye and is being closely monitored by specialists.

Taking to Instagram, Harry‘s wife Izzy, 40, has issued a stern warning to other parents after the shocking event.

She wrote alongside a black and white image of Lockie in hospital: “It’s been a traumatic few days… the reason I’m sharing this is because I don’t want another family to experience this and although we all get told the risks of cleaning products at home, reminders are always important.

“So Lockie managed to get hold of a washing pod which he then burst open and managed to get into his eyes very badly.

“In that split second I wasn’t there, I also forgot to put the washing pods away.”

Alongside Lockie, Izzy and singer husband Harry, 38, share daughter Lola, seven, and son Kit, five.

Izzy added: “We rushed to the hospital… Lockie’s Ph levels in his eyes were 8 and they needed to be 7.

“It took all night flushing out Lockie’s eyes with 22 litres of fluid before finally getting the ph down.

“We couldn’t be more grateful to the @nhsengland A&E nurses who showed unbelievable dedication and kindness, not only to Lockie but also to me.

“As you can imagine it was pretty horrendous having to watch and put Lockie through that, he doesn’t like getting his hair washed let alone having to lie there for 10 minutes for each litre of fluid.

“We are now being closely monitored as his right eye is injured from the chemicals, we are in the best hands though and I’m so grateful to the specialists.

“Little Lockie is such a determined and brave little boy.
So please, please put cleaning products high up and completely out of reach – this has been my scariest moment as a mum.

“I’m so sorry for others who have experienced these kind of awful accidents too.”
