Kat Slater devastated by news from social services as abusive son Tommy twists the knife in EastEnders
EastEnders viewers will watch as a heartbroken Kat Slater is left shocked by her son Tommy Moon in the meeting with social services
As the parent and child abuse storyline continues in EastEnders, viewers are left feeling for Kat Slater as her son Tommy Moon appears distant to his mother.
Kat Slater has been left reeling by son Tommy’s behaviour in EastEnders[/caption] Kat has been forced to move son Tommy out of their home by social services[/caption]BBC viewers have watched as Kat is in pieces ahead of the social services meeting about Tommy and continued to blank Stacey and Jean, who she holds responsible after she reported the teenager’s beahviour.
Alfie has begged Stacey to call a truce and tells a fib to get Kat to meet the Slaters at The Vic.
Yet when she arrives, Kat is furious to have been hoodwinked, but Alfie gave an impassioned speech and they reconcile so it appears all is well.
After Kat told Alfie she’s grateful, Freddie picked up on how insane their chemistry is, and Alfie admitted he still has feelings for Kat.
Yet in the next episode, it’s time for the meeting with social services, which Kat has been dreading.
During the social services meeting, Kat is devastated by how cold Tommy is towards her and fears they’ll never get their boy back.
However, the social worker says they can begin to work towards Tommy returning home, and no longer needing to stay next door with James.
In the meeting Alfie tells the social worker that they desperately want Tommy back for Christmas and even manages to get through to their son a little, ending the session on a positive note.
Once back at the flat, a grateful Kat surprises Alfie with a kiss meaning he might not be the only one with old feelings still there.
Tommy’s violent actions have been a rocky time for both Alfie and Kat, with Kat bearing the brunt of the troubled teenager’s outbursts.
Shocked EastEnders viewers watched as Tommy punched his mother in the stomach back in July.
His behaviour has gotten worse in recent weeks, with lashing out at his siblings, leaving poor Kat terrified.
Kat Moon's EastEnders Timeline
Kat Slater burst onto the Square in 2000 as feisty Kat Slater, played by Jessie Wallace. She is the eldest sister of the Slater family. She soon makes a big name for herself. She is a loud and brash character who is renowned for her leopard print skimpy outfits and loads of red lipstick. She has played the 'tart with a heart' character but has also had an epic love story with Alfie. Here is a rundown of her greatest soap storylines.
- Kat arrives in Walford as part of the Slater clan, She soon begins a fling with Steve Owen (Martin Kemp) behind the back of his girlfriend Mel Healey (Tamzin Outhwaite).
- Kat’s sister Zoe (played by Michelle Ryan) was revealed to be her sister after shocked viewers learned she was raped by her uncle Harry Slater as a child and Kat being only 13, was known as her sister.
- Kat and Zoe’s relationship was turbulent. They both vied for the attentions of Anthony Trueman (Nicholas Bailey). Kat and Anthony were together but broke up and Zoe then seduced him. Kat later learns she was pregnant but then has to have an abortion. She is comforted by her boss Alfie Moon (Shane Ritchie) but then he realises he is in love with her.
- Kat, becomes briefly engaged to Andy Hunter a local crime boss (Michael Briggs) but she jilts him on her wedding day for the true love her life Alfie.
- Kat sparks a romance with Alfie Moon and it is the love story of the square. She finally marries Alfie on Christmas day in the Vic.
- Alfie takes a loan from Andy which he is unable to repay and then Andy threatens to kill Alfie unless Kat sleeps with him.
- One of Kat’s biggest storylines was helping her daughter cover up the murder of Dirty Den Watts. She left the soap in 2005 sailing into the sunset with Alfie for a new life in America.
- Kat returned to the soap in 2010 on the run from a man who she and Alfie conned for money. While Alfie was serving time, she had an affair with Michael Moon who happened to be Alfie’s cousin and she is now pregnant with his child.

- Kat’s union with Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) began after months of feuding. She then sleeps with him marries him beginning a war with his ex Sharon Mitchell (Letitia Dean) over the Mitchell empire.

Kit Green takes desperate action to hide his dark secrets in Coronation Street
AN UPCOMING episode of Coronation Street will see Kit Green try to cover up his recent manipulation.
The policeman recently plied Ryan with alcohol in an attempt to find out more information about his ex girlfriend Daisy – so Kit can court her himself.
Kit Green has started dating Daisy Midgeley in Coronation Street[/caption] But she is going to be warned that he used manipulative tactics to get her attention[/caption]Daisy fell for the act and has been falling head over heels for Kit with his insider knowledge of her favourite shows and snacks.
However, she starts to become suspicious when she sees an empty bottle of whiskey at her new beau’s house as she’s helping him pack.
Ryan warns Daisy that Kit has been quizzing him about her and is using underhand tactics to win her affection.
When Daisy quizzes him about the whiskey, rather than admitting that he used it to get Ryan drunk, Kit pretends he was so devastated after Paul’s funeral that he turned to drink.
Will Daisy fall for his lies once more? Or will she start to become wary of his advances?
On the crime front, there have been new developments in the search for Joel Deering’s killer, and Kit is right in the middle of it all.
DS Lisa Swaine is responsible for investigating the twisted lawyer’s death alongside Kit.
However, she comes under suspicion when Kit discovers an unsent message on her phone suggesting she wanted Joel dead.
He confronts her, demanding to know where she was the night Joel went missing.
Will she turn out to be the killer after pinning the blame on Ronnie?
Or is she guilty of nothing more than hating a devious man responsible for the abuse of teenage girls?
Tom King attacks new victim as he’s humiliated in savage way in Emmerdale
EMMERDALE viewers will watch as Tom King is humiliated in the Dales as his vile behaviour comes to light.
In previous episodes on ITV, viewers watched as Tom was taken down to the police station for a fresh round of questioning following damning revelations from his own family.
Tom’s abuse to wife Belle has seen him the butt of jokes in the village[/caption] An angry Tom then takes out his anger on Amelia Spencer[/caption]With Nicole reporting the cruel side of Tom, and witnessing how scared her young stepson Carl is of him, he’s been questioned over his actions towards wife Belle.
Yet it could now be time for Tom to face some retribution as Emmerdale viewers will see a stunned Laurel Thomas when she discovers a bloodied Tom outside the church, claiming to have been attacked.
Yet when Laurel offers help, Tom refuses to go to A&E or the police station and, concerned for his nephew’s safety, Jimmy’s previous doubts quickly vanish as he reassures him of his support.
Jimmy accuses Samson Dingle of attacking Tom.
The next day, Tom’s sickened to realise that the ‘Guy’ being thrown on the bonfire has his likeness in what appears to be a joke from he rest of the village.
It’s tense at the bonfire as the villagers watch the Guy burn and when the Dingles each claim to be responsible for making the ‘Guy’, which only serves to make Tom angry.
An intimidated Tom loses his cool and takes it out on new partner Amelia Spencer.
Amelia has previously ignored warnings about the controlling and abusive side of Tom, choosing to believe her new partner instead.
In an interview with the Mirror, actress Daisy Campbell who plays Amelia explained that she was “very vulnerable” and being “manipulated”.
She said: “There’s a 10 year age gap between Amelia and Tom and she’s vulnerable.
“When I think of Amelia, she’s never happy, she’s always got sad storylines and she’s always very vulnerable.
“I think he’s got her where he wants her – she’s not seeing it right now because he’s an older man.”
She added: “She sees him as a man and someone who can protect her so she’s not really seeing that abusive side. I think he’s got to tread carefully because he doesn’t want to get Amelia to realise because Amelia’s the only one on his side right now.”
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.

ERIK TEN HAG was poked fun at online after Manchester United ran riot in their first match since the Dutchman’s sacking.
The former Ajax boss, 54, was given the boot by United chiefs on Monday following an awful start to the season.
Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side scored five against Leicester at Old Trafford[/caption] Erik ten Hag was sacked by Man Utd on Monday[/caption]With the Red Devils sitting 14th having collected just 11 points from nine games, club bosses turned to their former striker Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Ten Hag’s Dutch compatriot joined his staff in the summer, having previously managed PSV Eindhoven.
With Van Nistelrooy in the dugout as caretaker boss, United looked a side rejuvenated against Leicester in last night’s Carabao Cup clash.
Casemiro gave the Red Devils a 15th minute lead with a wonder strike from range.
Alejandro Garnacho then doubled his side’s lead on 28 minutes, before Bilal El Khannouss pulled one back for the Foxes just after the half-hour mark.
Steve Cooper‘s men weren’t back in the contest for long, with Bruno Fernandes’ heavily deflected free-kick making it 3-1 on 36 minutes, and Casemiro smashing in another before half-time.
Conor Coady pulled a second back for Leicester, but Fernandes had the final say in United’s comfortable 5-2 win.
As the game went on, fans posted several memes online depicting how Ten Hag must feel finally seeing United run riot on a team.

The memes included several angry figures losing the plot, including controversial American far-right commentator Alex Jones.
Writing in his programme notes, Van Nistelrooy admitted to feeling a “huge mix of emotions” after being promoted to caretaker boss.
He began his programme notes: “As I am sure everyone can imagine, I am writing these notes with a huge amount of mixed emotions.
“Erik ten Hag brought me back to Manchester United in the summer and, while I have only been part of the coaching staff here for a few months, I will always be grateful to him for giving me the opportunity, and I am saddened to see him leave.
“Even on an interim basis, it is a great honour to manage the club I love for however long I am asked to do so.
“I can promise that I will continue to give my all, in whatever capacity, to try to turn around our fortunes.”
Man Utd have identified Sporting boss Ruben Amorim as their No1 choice to replace Ten Hag full time.
His current club Sporting announced on Tuesday that the Red Devils had made contact and were ready to trigger his £8.3million release clause.
The Portuguese, 39, is expected to fly to Manchester to finalise a deal, with talks already well underway.
Although Van Nistelrooy could still be at the caretaker helm as United host Chelsea this Sunday.
Man Utd ratings vs Leicester
MAN UNITED started life after Erik ten Hag with a comfortable win over Leicester in the Carabao Cup.
But who shone in the 5-2 victory, and who will be hoping incoming boss Ruben Amorim wasn’t watching?
SunSport’s Katherine Walsh gives her ratings…
Altay Bayindir – 6
Although United dominated, Bayindir looked shaky when Leicester’s chances came.
He flapped with a dodgy punch which led to the away side’s 33rd minute goal. And he looked to repeat it with McAteer’s shot just before half-time.
But one excellent second half save, pushed on to the crossbar, when Steve Cooper’s side were pressing, boosts his mark up a bit.
Victor Lindelof – 6
Hasn’t got the partnership with De Ligt established yet as they both failed to deal with crosses too often from centre-back.
But wasn’t really troubled consistently in the absence of Jamie Vardy in what was his second start of the season.
Matthijs De Ligt – 7
A more physical presence at the back than in previous performances but a more potent attack could have caused much more trouble.
Kasey McAteer got the better of him a few times and he was subbed in the 71st minute for Jonny Evans.
Lisandro Martinez – 6
Looked vulnerable at left-back in moments, with Lindelof filling in at centre-back.
James Justin often had acres of space in the second half before United made it 5-2.
Diogo Dalot
Back in his beloved right-hand side and told to push into midfield but often left his defensive channel wide open.
Passed back all too often and kept Justin onside in the first half.
He assisted Garnacho’s opener though after collecting Casemiro‘s stunning lofted pass.
Played a part in Leicester’s second after the ball bounced off him to drop for Coady in another silly goal to concede for the home side.
Casemiro – 9
The star of the show. A stunning first-half showing saw Casemiro score a brace after bagging a 30-yard screamer for United’s opening goal inside 15 minutes.
He was involved in Garnacho’s goal too. Came up with a number of key defensive headers in the second-half to show class is permanent, although form might be temporary at 32 years old.
Manuel Ugarte – 6
Conceded early fouls but worked hard. Slowly but surely starting to get to grips with his United team-mates after a shaky start.
Bruno Fernandes – 8
Restored United’s 3-1 lead with his first finish of the season. Played with a smile on his face, which we often haven’t seen this season.
Dummied the ball for Casemiro’s worldie and scored his second of the evening in the 57th minute after rolling it under Danny Ward before tapping it into an empty net.
Will be leaned on heavily by Van Nistelrooy to produce the goods following Ten Hag’s departure.
Marcus Rashford – 6
A quiet evening for Rashford, who needs to kick on after Ten Hag’s exit.
The winger lost the ball a lot in the first 30 minutes. Flicks didn’t come off and hauled off again in the 60th minute.
Rashford’s only played a full 90 minutes THREE times this season.
Alejandro Garnacho – 7
A goal and assist for Garnacho, who attended the Ballon d’Or on Monday.
The 20-year-old doubled United’s lead inside 27 minutes after a well worked team move and set up Casemiro’s brilliant opener.
Looked a constant threat throughout and was taken off 20 minutes from time to be saved for Sunday’s clash against Chelsea.
Joshua Zirkzee – 4
Worked hard but never looked confident on the ball and struggled to get involved in the seven-goal thriller. Never seemed to be on his toes either.
But the only consolation is that he was involved in Casemiro’s second (United’s fourth).
Trudged off after 85 minutes looking disgruntled with his tail between his legs.
Subs
Amad (60′ for Rashford) – 7
Instant impact from the bench. The youngster almost scored an overhead kick with his first touch of the evening.
Mazraoui (60′ for Martinez) – 6
Hojlund (71′ for Garnacho) – 6
Jonny Evans (71′ for De Ligt) – 6
Ethan Wheatley (85′ for Zirkzee) – N/A
14 freebies and discounts you can get on State Pension in November
A HUGE range of freebies, discounts and benefits are available to those over state pension age that could save them thousands of pounds a year.
Many pensioners are facing hardship this winter after access to the Winter Fuel Payment was cut – but there are other ways to boost your budget if you get state pension.
Pensioners could claim a number of freebies and discounts this month[/caption]According to charity Age UK, billions of pounds’ of benefits go unclaimed every year, so it’s worth checking what support you might be entitled to using the charity’s benefits calculator.
But even if you’re not entitled to benefit payments there other discounts and freebies you can claim to cut your bills.
The support available covers everything from help with rental costs, assistance for those requiring care, pension top-ups and discounted transport.
Combined these freebies and discounts could make you thousands of pounds better off this winter.
Pension Credit
Pension Credit is a gateway benefit that can unlock a number of other payments, including the Winter Fuel Payment, which is worth up to £300.
It’s estimated that more than 800,000 people who qualify aren’t claiming the benefit, so it’s important to check if you’re eligible.
Pension Credit is a tax-free benefit that will top up your income to a set amount.
The weekly benefit comes in two parts – guarantee credit and savings credit – and is completely separate from your State Pension.
You can claim Pension Credit if you have reached State Pension age and your weekly income is less than:
- £218.15 if you’re single
- £332.95 if you’re a couple.
Pension Credit tops up what you are currently receiving to meet the above amounts.
If you’ve saved money towards retirement this amount is topped up further via the savings credit part of the benefit.
Some of the other perks Pension Credit unlocks are help with housing costs, council tax or heating bills and even a free TV licence if you are 75 or older.
You may also get additional Pension Credit if you are disabled, have caring responsibilities or have to pay certain housing costs such as mortgage interest payments.
Applications can be made on the Government website or by calling the Pension Credit claim line on 0800 99 1234.
If you file a claim by 21 December, backdated to the qualifying week (16 to 22 September 2024), you could still receive this year’s Winter Fuel Payment.
Attendance Allowance
Attendance Allowance can help with extra costs incurred due to a severe disability that means you require regular assistance.
It’s paid at two different rates and how much you get depends on the level of care you need.
The lower rate is worth £72.65 a week, while the higher rate is paid out at £108.55 a week.
If you require frequent help or constant supervision during the day, or supervision at night, you can claim the lower amount.
Those who require supervision throughout the day and night will receive the higher rate.
There are 56 categories of medical conditions that enable you to make a claim, including heart disease, Parkinson’s disease and diabetes.
You are also entitled to claim if a medical professional has said you might have 12 months or less to live.
To apply online, visit www.gov.uk/attendance-allowance/how-to-claim.
Council Tax reduction
Pensioners on a low income or receive qualifying benefits can get help towards their Council Tax bill from their local authority.
The amount your bill might be cut by depends on your circumstances.
But, if you receive the guarantee element of Pension Credit, your council tax could be written off in full.
If you live alone, you will get the 25% reduction, even if you’re not entitled to any other benefits.
To apply for a Council Tax reduction, contact your local council.
State Pension
State pension is paid to both men and women from the age of 66.
Not everyone gets the same amount, with the payment rate based on an individual’s National Insurance (NI) record.
Workers must have 35 qualifying years of NI credits to get the maximum amount of the new state pension, which stands at £221.20 per week.
NI qualification is built up through work, or by getting credits for other reasons, such as looking after children and claiming Child Benefit.
If you have gaps, you can top up your record by paying in voluntary NI contributions.
To get the old, full basic State Pension, you will need 30 years of contributions or credits.
You will need at least 10 years on your NI record to get any state pension.
Last month, it was confirmed that the maximum payment for the new state pension will rise from £8,814 to £9,167 from April 2025.
You should receive a letter no later than two months before you reach state pension age explaining how to get it.
Housing benefit
Housing Benefit can help with rental costs, if you’re of state pension age and on a low income.
To receive the benefit you will need to have less than £16,000 in savings.
If you live with a partner you both need to be of state pension age to claim Housing Benefit, if not you’ll need to make a Universal Credit claim.
Housing Benefit is means tested, so the amount you will receive depends on your income and how much you have in savings.
But if you get the guarantee element of Pension Credit, your income and savings won’t be taken into account – so you may get your rent paid in full.
To apply for Housing Benefit, contact your local council.
Cold weather payment
Cold weather payments are made to eligible residents in areas where the temperature is recorded at zero degrees Celsius or below, for seven consecutive days.
A £25 payment will be made for each seven day period of very cold weather between November 1 2024 and March 31 2025.
You may be eligible for the payments if you receive:
- Pension Credit
- Income Support
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Universal Credit
- Support for Mortgage Interest
Payments are made automatically, so you do not need to apply for the benefit.
Warm home discount
The £150 warm home discount is available to pensioners and those on low incomes.
Those who qualify for the discount will have £150 deducted from their energy bills by the end of March 2025.
You’ll be eligible if you receive the guarantee credit element of Pension Credit, or are on a low income and have high energy costs.
The discount should be automatically deducted from your energy bill this winter if your eligible, but those on low-incomes living in Scotland need to apply through their energy providers.
If you were eligible for the payment last winter and did not receive it, contact your energy supplier.
If your energy supplier is unable to help write to the warm home discount scheme on 110552 Warm Home Discount Scheme,
PO Box 26965, Glasgow, G1 9BW.
WaterSure Scheme
WaterSure could help with water bills if you receive benefits and use a lot of water either because someone in the household has a medical condition or because you live with three or more school-age children.
To apply you will also need to have a water meter, or be waiting for one to be installed.
The scheme is managed by suppliers, so you will need to check with your water company to see which benefits qualify households for support.
People with medial conditions that can lead to increased water use will be eligible.
Those given automatic qualification include people with Crohn’s disease, desquamation, eczema, psoriasis or varicose ulceration, abdominal stomas and renal failure requiring dialysis at home.
Those with other conditions can apply as long as their doctor supports the application.
Forms to apply can be accessed through water companies.
Free TV licence
You can claim a free TV licence if you’re 75 or older and either receive Pension Credit yourself or live with a partner who gets Pension Credit.
You can apply for a free licence when you’re 74, but will still have to pay until the end of the month before your 75th birthday.
You can apply for your free licence online or by calling 0300 790 6071.
If you’re not entitled to go a free licence, you could still receive a discount.
You could be eligible for a discounted TV licence if you live in residential care or sheltered accommodation, or if you’re registered blind.
If you live in sheltered accommodation or residential care and are over 60 or disabled you can get a licence for just £7.50.
Your housing manager should be able to check if you’re eligible and will apply for you.
If you’re registered blind, or live with someone who is, you’re in line for a 50% discount.
The licence must be in the name if the person registered blind, but if your existing licence is not in their name you can make an application to transfer it.
You can apply for the discount on the TV Licensing website.
Carer’s Allowance
Carer’s Allowance is available to those who look after someone who would find it difficult to manage without their support.
You don’t need to be related to the person you care for to make the claim.
Carer’s Allowance and the state pension are overlapping benefits, so you can’t claim both independently.
But if you receive less than £81.90 through your state pension, you can claim carer’s allowance to top it up to that level.
To be eligible you must spend at least 35 hours a week caring for someone who is ill or disabled.
To apply call the Carer’s Allowance helpline on 0800 731 0297
Days out
Many attractions, leisure centres and other entertainment providers will offer pensioners reduced priced tickets.
It’s always worth checking what’s available before planning a day out, because you could make a big saving.
Those offering savings include cinemas. For example tickets for Odeon’s Silvers screenings start at just £3.50.
The National Trust offers those who have been members for three years or more 25% off their subscription once they turn 60.
Attractions such as Kew Gardens and English Heritage sites also offer reduced rates for pensioners.
Many football clubs offer discounts for people over the age of 65, so you could also support your local club without breaking the bank.
Some restaurants also offer discounts for pensioners at specified times.
For example many Greene King pubs have senior menus, which offer smaller portion sizes of traditional dishes.
Transport concessions
In England, you can get a bus pass for free travel when you reach state pension age.
Plus, if you live in London, you can travel free on buses, tubes and other transport when you’re 60, but only within the capital.
In Wales, you can get a bus pass when you reach 60.
You get an older person’s bus pass when you’re 60 if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland.
You can apply for the pass via your local council’s website which will have more information.
Pensioners can also apply for a Senior Railcard to get discounted rail fares.
There is an annual cost of £30 for the card and gets you 1/3 off train travel.
People with a Senior Railcard save on average £142 a year, according to the government.
The Senior Railcard is available to travellers aged 60 or over.
You can apply for the card on the National Rail website.
Free prescriptions and eye tests
Once you reach 60, you can get free prescriptions from your local pharmacy – prescriptions usually cost £9.90 each in England.
So if you usually buy a single prescription each month you could save £118.80 over the year.
This benefit is automatic and there’s no need to apply.
If you’re 60 or over you’re also entitled to a free NHS sight test, so you should let your optician know when you reach 60 if you haven’t already.
Eye tests can usually cost between £20 and £30.
Household Support Fund
Struggling households can get help with the cost of living via the Household Support Fund (HSF).
The fund has been extended for the sixth time, with £421million set to be made available to regional councils to distribute.
The support you can access depends on where you live, but funds can be paid out as shopping or fuel vouchers, cash payments or other means.
Households in Reading who are no longer eligible for the Winter Fuel Payment, and who are in receipt of support from the Council Tax Reduction scheme and/or Housing Benefit, are to be sent a voucher worth £200.
Meanwhile struggling residents and families who live in Torridge can apply for free cash grants directly to bank accounts worth £100s.
These grants can be used to help households with their energy and water bills.
Others may be eligible for cash vouchers to be spent on food at their local supermarket.
Check with your local council to find out what you could be entitled to.
Pension Credit explained
Pension Credit is a benefit which gives you extra money to help with your living costs if you’re on a low income in retirement.
It can also help with housing costs such as ground rent or service charges.
You may be able to get extra help of you’re a carer, have a disability, or are responsible for a child.
It also opens up access to lots of other benefits such as the warm home discount scheme, support for mortgage interest, council tax discounts, free TV licences once you’re over 75, and help with NHS costs.
To qualify, you need to be over state pension age and live in England, Scotland or Wales.
If you have a partner, you need to include them on your claim.
Pension Credit tops up:
- your weekly income to £218.15 if you’re single
- your joint weekly income to £332.95 if you have a partner
However, even if your income is higher, you might still qualify if you have a disability or caring responsibilities.
There is also another element to Pension Credit called savings credit. To get this, you need to have saved some money towards your retirement.
You can get an extra £17.01 a week for a single person or £19.04 a week for a married couple.
If you have more than £10,000 in savings, the government uses a calculation to work out how much it adds to your income.
Every £500 over £10,000 counts as £1 income a week. For example, if you have £11,000 in savings, this counts as £2 income a week.

‘Super smart’ medical student, 21, died from ‘traumatic’ head injury moments after using weight machine in uni gym
A “SUPER smart” medical student died in his university gym moments after using a weight machine, his heartbroken family say.
Mohammed Farraj, 21, was working out at his university on October 16 when tragedy struck.
Emergency crews scrambled to the University of East Anglia’s Sportspark, in Norwich, following reports of a medical incident.
The medical student, from Stoke-on-Trent, had been using gym equipment when he sustained a head injury, Norfolk Police said.
The force is now investigating alongside the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
Mohammed sadly could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A relative told the Mail: “It was a tragic accident and it was not a fault of the machine, from all we have been told.
“Mohammed was using a Smith machine when he suffered a head trauma.
“He had no underlying health issues. He was very fit and healthy, there was absolutely nothing wrong with him.”
Tributes have since been paid to “kind and caring” Mohammed.
His university football team wrote: “A dear friend, brother and son departed this world.
“Our best wishes and condolences go out to his family, friends and loved ones.
“Mohammed was someone who loved to stay fit and active, he was also an aspiring doctor.
“Mohammed was someone who represented all the university’s core values.
“Anyone who met Mohammed can vouch that he was kind, caring and a joy to be around.
“A minute’s silence was held at all of our games that took place on Saturday to pay our respect for Mohammed.”
The student union added: “We are deeply shocked and heartbroken by the incident that resulted in the loss of Mohammed Farraj, a valued member of our UAE community.
“This is a tragedy and our thoughts and condolences are with their family, friends and loved ones during this difficult time.”
Mohammed’s medical school said: “You had the potential to make a great doctor… thinking of you, your family and friends.”
A fundraiser has been set up in Mohammed’s name to help raise money for Human Appeal to build water wells.
A Norfolk Police spokesman said at the time: “Emergency services were called to the Sportspark gym shortly after 7pm following reports of a medical incident involving a man who had been using gym equipment.”
“A man, aged in his 20s, was treated by paramedics but was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been informed.
“The area was evacuated while emergency services provided medical treatment.
“A police cordon was in place and the gym will remain closed while enquiries are carried out to establish the circumstances surrounding the death, which is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious.”
