Mikey Lewis reveals mind games helped him down Samoa after confrontation
MIKEY Lewis used his loaf to help England see off Samoa – after literally meeting their challenge head on.
The Hull KR star did not back down as Gordon Chan Kum Tong confronted him at the end of the Pacific islanders’ pre-match Siva Tau.
Foreheads were pressed against each other in a fearsome meeting that set the stage perfectly.
Then it was a case of using what lies behind before launching himself into the fray off the bench as interchange hooker, rather than half back – and scoring the final try.
“That gave me a chance to read things and see things differently,” said Lewis.
“Sam Tomkins said to me, ‘Watch everything. Don’t miss a minute. Keep watching what they do and think when you go on, how are you going to exploit it?’
“That’s what I did and playing a slightly different role didn’t change my mental approach. When I get my chance, I’ll be myself and express myself.
“That’s all I wanted to do and that’s all that was wanted from me, to bring that energy.

“But we don’t take a backwards step. It’s our territory. To get over our side, they’ve got to earn it. That’s the culture we’ve built.
“I enjoyed it, it got me pumped up. I just said, ‘Let’s go.’ I never thought anything more would come from it.
“He picked me out and I wasn’t taking a backwards step. It was just two lads living the dream by playing for their country.”
Despite seeing off the last World Cup finalists, England were not perfect – boss Shaun Wane admitted the performance would not have troubled Australia.
Yet as Matty Ashton ran in two tries, with Victor Radley and Herbie Farnworth also going in, skipper George Williams took centre stage with his score capping a real captain’s display.
Only for him to be told he can do better – as his side will have to do in next year’s Ashes, which may yet be on these shores.
Doing more than push and shove in a 26-man fracas may be a start, even though Wane was relieved nothing more happened.
“Shaun’s been like that with me since I was about 12,” Warrington ace Williams said.
“I’d come off thinking I’ve had a great game but he’d tell me I’ve done five things wrong, which is good.”
On the fracas, Wane added: “It was an all-in jersey pull! Collars being stretched, I’ve never seen anything like that before.”
Great British Bake Off descends into more chaos as baker DROPS cake at crucial moment
VIEWERS watching Bake Off this week will be left open-mouthed after seeing one struggling contestant drop his cake shortly before it was meant to be presented to judges.
This upcoming episode of GBBO will see all the bakers asked to whip up a vegetable cake as a showstopper.
The upcoming episode of Bake Off will see one contestant suffer from a serious mishap[/caption] Dylan found a way to get his cake to cool quicker before dropping it[/caption] The accident forced him to start baking again midway through the episode[/caption]Their creations have to be themed after an autumnal holiday, such as Bonfire night or Halloween.
Halfway through the race to make the perfect cake, Dylan suddenly drops his in a move that will surely go down as one of the most tragic blunders in Bake Off history.
In an exclusive clip provided to the Sun, the 20-year-old retail worker could be seen heading over to the fridge where he planned to cool the sponge layers of his dessert.
However, he was soon left horrified when one wrong move saw a sponge cake sail off his plate.
Perhaps out of instinct from childhood games of football, Dylan attempted to rescue it by raising his foot to kick it.
Sadly he missed, and the sponge smashed into the ground.
He could be heard exclaiming in shock before adding “That’s so annoying” when he realised it was too late to save his creation.
The incident forced the baker to go back to square one and put a fresh batch of batter in the oven.
At one point Noel Fielding came to check in on the disheartened Dylan.
The concerned Bake Off host asked: “Dylan, what’s gone down?”
Dylan sounded crestfallen as he responded: “I just threw my cake on the floor.”
Despite the mishap, he seemed hopeful that he would be able to make a fresh layer of sponge, adding: “I’ve got more batter in the fridge.”
Noel joked “I mean…no panics,” after grimacing and pointing at the destroyed confectionary.
This comes after the Channel 4 show was plagued with a series of disasters earlier in October that saw two contestants collapse on the floor while filming.
Illiyn seemed to suffer from a fainting spell after trying to race against the clock to bake while sick.
Then later on Dylan went for a flier as the judges were deliberating over their scores.
