Dream man I met at supermarket cruelly said he only went to bed with me ‘to relieve the tension’

DEAR DEIDRE: AFTER I had sex with my dream man, he dismissed any chance of a relationship and cruelly said he only went to bed with me “to relieve the tension”.

He says he sees us as friends, which has left me feeling worthless.

I am 23, he is 24 and we met when he began working at the same supermarket as me.

My boss asked me to show him around and we got on brilliantly. There was a real spark between us.

At the end of his first week he kissed me and asked me out for a drink, but then he cancelled on me a couple of times.

I haven’t had much luck with men and have been on my own for a while.

I was beginning to think he was like all the other men I’ve dated but then he actually showed up.

After one drink we went back to his flat for a takeaway and a movie — and we also had sex. It was the best I have ever had.

I told him how much I liked him but that is when he told me he only saw me as a friend to have sex with. He added that he wasn’t sure if a relationship with me would work.

I was gutted but didn’t want to lose him so I agreed to being sex buddies. I have been in similar arrangements before but have never fallen so hard for the man.

This guy is just perfect.

So when he moved jobs and avoided me for a month, I was heartbroken.

When he finally called, I told him I felt like I wasn’t good enough for him, but he disagreed.

He then suggested we meet up again as sex buddies. I’ve said yes but my heart isn’t in it.

He is so special to me. Am I just wasting my time?

DEAR DEIDRE

Should I tell my cousin her 'charmer' boyfriend is monster who took advantage?

LOVE RAT

My girlfriend is wonderful but I can’t stop chasing other women

DEIDRE SAYS: It would appear so. No man is perfect – it’s only your imagination of how he could be.

Please stop putting him on a pedestal – it’s so far from reality. Take a look at how he has treated you and what he has said he wants.

That is what he is really like, not the idealised version in your mind.

The longer you continue having sex with him, the deeper the wound will be.

He has been honest about what he’s looking for, now it’s time for you to be honest with yourself also.

Tell him that being so casual isn’t your scene after all. And unless he changes his approach quickly, you need to end this and move on.

‘Best tea room ever’ SHUTS after 159 years as fans left devastated by loss of ‘gem’ with ‘amazing charm’

CUPPA fans have been left devastated after “the best tea room ever” pulled down the shutters after 159 years.

Botham’s of Whitby has announced they will close their beloved tea room at the Skinner Street site for the “foreseeable future”.

Staff from the venue said the place is set to undergo “essential and extensive building work” – and will close on Saturday, November 2.

The Botham family, who opened the Whitby in 1865, said: “On Saturday 2 November 2024, the upstairs Tea Room at Skinner Street will close for the foreseeable future.

“This is due to essential and extensive building work on our former Skinner Street bakehouse located behind and above the upstairs Tea Rooms.

“We have made the difficult decision to close to prioritise staff and customer safety during the renovations.

“At this point, we would like to express our thanks to our tea room staff for their help and understanding during this process.”

Fans of the tea room were left devasted after hearing the news of the shocking closure.

One person said: “The best tea room ever. It has a really unique ambience and the food and service are beyond excellent.”

While another person said: “It needs to reopen. It’s my favourite tea room, has an amazing charm. Close for the works of course, but please let it reopen. “

A third person said: “This lovely tea room will be sadly missed.”

Meanwhile, another much-loved tea room was forced to close having been in business for 34 “happy and successful” years.

The family-run Two Hoots Tea Room is situated in one of Wales’ most-visited tourist spots and they say they are devastated after they were ordered to pull down the shutters for good.

The owners of the café at Devil’s Bridge, Aberystwyth, have been given a closure notice by the Vale of Rheidol Railway as it plans to start work regenerating Devi’s Bridge Station.

The popular station is home to world-famous bridges and waterfalls with thousands of visitors every year.

As part of the regeneration work, new toilets are planned and recreating sites which pay homage to the area’s industrial history.

Plans also include building an engine shed replicating the structure present in the early 20th century as well as the recreation of the old timber yard.

Companies close stores here and there for a number of reasons, like falling shopper numbers or that an area is being redeveloped.

Sometimes the landlord who owns the building may decide not to renew the lease on the property.

Why are retailers closing stores?

RETAILERS have been feeling the squeeze since the pandemic, while shoppers are cutting back on spending due to the soaring cost of living crisis.

High energy costs and a move to shopping online after the pandemic are also taking a toll, and many high street shops have struggled to keep going.

The high street has seen a whole raft of closures over the past year, and more are coming.

The number of jobs lost in British retail dropped last year, but 120,000 people still lost their employment, figures have suggested.

Figures from the Centre for Retail Research revealed that 10,494 shops closed for the last time during 2023, and 119,405 jobs were lost in the sector.

It was fewer shops than had been lost for several years, and a reduction from 151,641 jobs lost in 2022.

The centre’s director, Professor Joshua Bamfield, said the improvement is “less bad” than good.

Although there were some big-name losses from the high street, including Wilko, many large companies had already gone bust before 2022, the centre said, such as Topshop owner Arcadia, Jessops and Debenhams.

“The cost-of-living crisis, inflation and increases in interest rates have led many consumers to tighten their belts, reducing retail spend,” Prof Bamfield said.

“Retailers themselves have suffered increasing energy and occupancy costs, staff shortages and falling demand that have made rebuilding profits after extensive store closures during the pandemic exceptionally difficult.”

Alongside Wilko, which employed around 12,000 people when it collapsed, 2023’s biggest failures included Paperchase, Cath Kidston, Planet Organic and Tile Giant.

The Centre for Retail Research said most stores were closed because companies were trying to reorganise and cut costs rather than the business failing.

However, experts have warned there will likely be more failures this year as consumers keep their belts tight and borrowing costs soar for businesses.

The Body Shop and Ted Baker are the biggest names to have already collapsed into administration this year.

I won £50k on People’s Postcode Lotto but I’ll be looking after myself first… the wife and kids can wait

A LUCKY Brit who won £50,000 in the People’s Postcode Lottery revealed that he intends to prioritise his own needs before thinking about his wife and kids.

The maintenance engineer plans to spend the £50,000 on himself first before his wife Lynn and daughter Elisha bombard him with requests.

Brian is looking to purchase a set of custom golf clubs from a professional shop.

“I’m going to get golf clubs fitted,” he added.

“I normally get them online, but I’ll go to a pro golf place and see what suits me.”

Despite insisting that his family would have to wait before receiving the cash prize, Brian revealed that he will use the money to help his daughter move out.

He said: “My daughter will be very happy. We’re helping her move out.”

After hearing Brian’s plans to prioritise spending on himself, his wife Lynn jokingly remarked: “He may buy one golf club.”

“I’m having a new wardrobe full of clothes, handbags, shoes, perfume.

“And I’ll buy my daughter exactly the same.”

The maintenance worker was thrilled to learn that his neighbours had also scooped up huge cash prizes in the People’s Postcode Lottery.

He added: “It’s good to win with neighbours – I’m pleased for everyone. It’s a nice, quiet area.”

It comes after a vet who missed out on a whopping £50,000 in the People’s Postcode Lottery has told how she was left shaking when she realised.

Kate Innes was left stunned after learning entrants on her street shared a £1million cash prize.

The veterinary practice manager from Chesterfield bagged an eye-watering £50,000.

But Kate missed out on doubling her money by only buying one ticket.

‘OH MY GOD’

Several of her neighbours managed to secure a staggering £100,000 after buying two.

Despite missing out on the extra £50,000, Kate revealed that she was over the moon to win the lotto prize.

After finding out that she had won, she exclaimed, “Oh my God, I’m shaking. Thank you so much!”: “Oh my God, I’m shaking. Thank you so much.

“That is legitimately crazy. I’ve been trying to remain as calm as possible.

“It just feels so surreal and incredible.”

The vet added: “I can’t believe it has happened. It’s an incredible amount of money just to even contemplate.

“I’m so incredibly happy for the neighbours. The level of the win is going to be able to make some people’s dreams absolutely come true.”

Kate and her fiancé Paul Rothwell have already made big plans for the future but said the cash prize has turbo-charged them.

The pair are planning a lavish hiking holiday in Austria next year and have plans to tour America in an RV.

Daredevil Paul has also scheduled a wing-walking experience to celebrate his birthday in January.

Kate said: “We’ll set ourselves up for the future. Probably a nice holiday.”
