Pumped up UFC star appears to injure himself BEFORE fight as fans spot painful moment and say ‘that backfired’

UFC star Chris Barnett appeared to injure his ankle just moments BEFORE he was due to fight.

The 18st 8lb heavyweight faced Nigerian Kennedy Nzechukwu on the UFC 308 card in Abu Dhabi.

And Barnett got off to the worst possible start before the bout had even begun.

As he was being introduced by legendary announcer Bruce Buffer, a pumped up Barnett jumped up but came down hard on his ankle.

The American was then stopped in a round and fans reckon he only had himself to blame.

One said: “That backfired. Stick to fighting.”

Another added: “Damn that must feel terrible.”

One joked: “My goat.”

Another said: “People need to learn to stop jumping right before a fight.”

Despite the speculation, Barnett said on social media: “Fake News. I got hurt with the spinning hook kick.”

Barnett, 38, slipped to three defeats in his last five after the first-round loss to Nzechukwu, 32.

In the night’s main event, Ilia Topuria, 27, knocked out Max Holloway, 32, to retain his UFC featherweight title.

YouTuber dubbed ‘Nutty’ who fled Thailand after ‘scamming victims out of £47m’ is arrested after national anthem fail

A GLAM YouTuber who fled Thailand after “scamming” victims out of £47 million was arrested following a national anthem cock up.

Natthamon Khongchak, 32, from Thailand, was busted for fraud when immigration officials in Indonesia noticed her accent was off and she couldn’t sing the country’s national anthem.

Khongchak, also known as Nutty, attempted to obtain citizenship in Indonesia after she posed as a foreign exchange trader.

The investment scheme had collapsed when thousands of suspected victims filed complaints in Bangkok – and one claimed she lost thousands that she would have used to send her child to university.

Khongchak fled to Kuala Lumpur with her secretary Nichapat Ratananukrom before she took a boat to a remote Indonesian island, where her mother later joined her.

Earlier this month, Khongchak allegedly applied for an Indonesian passport – which would have allowed her to travel internationally – when immigration officials became suspicious of her accent.

They reportedly asked her to sing the national anthem and recite country’s constitution but she failed.

Cops say she broke down under interrogation and admitted she had entered the country illegally.

Further checks with bungling officials in Thailand, who initially allowed her to slip through the net, revealed she was a fugitive wanted for the mass investment scam worth millions.

Police Lieutenant General Thatchai Pitaneelabut, Assistant Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, said: “The suspect has been arrested for a financial fraud involving stock trading with damages of more than two billion Baht [£45 million].

“It has been found that the three suspects fled Thailand through natural channels in the southern region in 2022 before hiding in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

“Later, she illegally entered Indonesia through Batam Island, which is an island and city in the province of Kepulau Wan Riau…

“…before travelling to Dumai City with other people helping them escape before being arrested in Dumai City, Riau Province, on the island of Sumatra, Indonesia on October 2, 2024.”

He said Khongchak is currently under investigation and will be sent to the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) for legal action.

Khongchak’s mother was also arrested and the pair were deported to Thailand.

The mother-daughter duo arrived in Bangkok earlier this week and were remanded in custody, facing lengthy jail terms.

But Khongchak claims she turned herself in.

She told local media: “It was not my intention to run away. I never thought of that. I surrendered to the police.

“I want to apologise to everyone for what I have done. I want to apologise for bringing shame on the country.”

Khongchak ran a popular YouTube channel with more than 800,000 subscribers, regularly sharing trading tips while posing as a foreign exchange trader.

Her Instagram was awash with videos showcasing her luxury lifestyle, including tropical beach snaps and photos of luxury cars.

But lawyers representing the alleged victims filed multiple complaints with prosecutors.

They claim Khongchak used her major social media influence to lure victims into investing money with the promise of quick returns of 35 per cent but not paying out.

Phaisal Ruangri, a lawyer who campaigns to help fraud victims, said there are around 6,000 victims who had allegedly been fleeced of the huge total of at least £47 million.

He claimed one investor had deposited as much as £423,000 with Khongchak and was yet to receive any returns.

Ruangri said: “The investors trusted her because she was a popular YouTube star with almost a million subscribers.

“She used her popularity to trick her followers. On social media, she displayed her wealth, with holidays, designer clothes, handbags, and cars. Her fans believed she was a successful businesswoman.”

Her scheme first unfolded in April 2022, when investors began claiming they had not received the return they had been promised.

A month later, Khongchak stated in an Instagram post that she had made a mistake in trading and lost all the money – promising she would pay back her investors.

At the time she told her loyal followers that she wouldn’t be able to repay other investors if she was jailed.

A mother who lost her child’s university savings told local media she’d lost a whopping £42,000 in the alleged scam.

She said: “I was saving this money to send my children to university.

“I thought that the money Nutty promised would help us live a more comfortable life. Now I am sick with worry as I’ve lost everything.”

According to the arrest warrant, Khongchak and her secretary Ratananukrom were wanted for “defrauding people together”.

They are both accused of “advertising or announcing to the public of money borrowing where the pay benefits rates are higher than the highest interest rate that a financial institution can pay”.

While major pizza takeaway chain Papa John’s has been forced to stop serving its Garlic and Herb Dip, and their Vegan Ranch Dressing.

And Domino’s has removed its BBQ Dip and The Big Dip – BBQ.

NEW ITEM ADDED

The latest item to be added to the alert list yesterday is Merchant Gourmet’s Black Dhal with Black Lentils & Coconut Cream.

The FSA says: “Several brands are taking the precautionary step of recalling several spice products that contain mustard, because they may contain peanuts which are not mentioned on the label.

“This means the products are a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to peanuts.”

The signs of an allergic reaction and anaphylaxis

SYMPTOMS of an allergy usually occur within minutes of contact with with the offending food or trigger, but they can also come on up to one hour later.

Most allergic reactions are mild but they can also be moderate or severe.

Anaphylaxis is the most severe form of allergic reaction which can be life threatening.

Mild to moderate symptoms include:

  • Itchy mouth, tongue and throat
  • Swelling of lips, around the eyes or face
  • Red raised itchy rash (often called nettle rash, hives or urticaria)
  • Vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhoea
  • Runny nose and sneezing

Severe symptoms of anaphylaxis include:

  • Swelling of your throat and tongue
  • Difficulty breathing or breathing very fast
  • Difficulty swallowing, tightness in your throat or a hoarse voice
  • Wheezing, coughing or noisy breathing
  • Feeling tired or confused
  • Feeling faint, dizzy or fainting
  • Skin that feels cold to the touch
  • Blue, grey or pale skin, lips or tongue – if you have brown or black skin, this may be easier to see on the palms of your hands or soles of your feet

Anaphylaxis and its symptoms should be treated as a medical emergency.

Follow these steps if you think you or someone you’re with is having an anaphylactic reaction:

  1. Use an adrenaline auto-injector (such as an EpiPen) if you have one  instructions are included on the side of the injector.
  2. Call 999 for an ambulance and say that you think you’re having an anaphylactic reaction.
  3. Lie down – you can raise your legs, and if you’re struggling to breathe, raise your shoulders or sit up slowly (if you’re pregnant, lie on your left side).
  4. If you have been stung by an insect, try to remove the sting if it’s still in the skin.
  5. If your symptoms have not improved after 5 minutes, use a 2nd adrenaline auto-injector.

Do not stand or walk at any time, even if you feel better.

A spokesperson for the FSA said: “The FSA is urgently working with the relevant Local Authorities, individual businesses and industry to identify which products may be affected.

“We have traced the contaminated mustard ingredients to a producer in India called GT Agro Industries and have identified one company who has supplied these ingredients for use in UK food.

“There is no evidence other suppliers are affected so far.”

The UK company affected, FGS Ingredients Ltd, has urged customers to remove from sale products containing contaminated mustard ingredients.

FSA’s Director of Food Policy, Rebecca Sudworth, said:  ”Those with a peanut allergy should avoid consuming products containing mustard as an ingredient until we identify the individual products affected.

“Parents and carers of children who have a peanut allergy should take care to check the labels of food they buy and, if eating out, or getting a takeaway, ask the restaurant or cafe about foods that might contain mustard.

“As soon as we have more information, we will update consumers. As always, we urge people with an allergy to sign up to our allergy alerts, so you can be notified about future allergy recalls.”

Little-known state pension loophole which can boost your retirement payments by £667 a year – how to benefit

Thousands of retirees nearing the state pension age could boost their retirement benefits by £667 annually, thanks to a little-known loophole.

Currently, the full new state pension amounts to £221.20 per week, totalling £11,502.40 per annum.

a jar filled with coins and a tag that says pension pot
Alamy
For most pensioners, it forms only part of their retirement income[/caption]

This full amount is available to those over the age of 66 who have accumulated at least 35 years of National Insurance (NI) contributions.

If you have fewer years of contributions, your pension will be reduced, and if you haven’t paid NI for at least 10 years, you won’t receive any state pension.

For most pensioners, it forms only part of their retirement income, as they could have other pots from a workplace pension, earning and savings.

For most pensioners, the state pension constitutes only a portion of their retirement income, as they may also have funds from workplace pensions, earnings, and savings.

However, the state pension is not automatically paid upon reaching the age of 66.

Instead, you must claim it, but this is not compulsory.

Therefore, if you are still working or do not need the money immediately, opting to delay claiming your state pension can significantly increase your future income.

For every nine weeks you postpone claiming your pension, you will receive an additional 1%.

In practical terms, delaying your state pension by one year will increase your future payments by 5.8%, potentially adding up to an extra £667 annually.

Meanwhile, delaying for five years will add a whopping £3,333.20 to the annual sum you receive.

Of course, these figures are based on the current state pension amounts, but as this increases each year thanks to the triple-lock, the actual amounts you add are likely to be higher.

How much could you get?

Weekly incomeAnnual income
Full state pension£221.20£11,502.40
Delay by one year£234.02£12,169.04
Delay by two years£246.84£12,835.68
Delay by three years£259.66£13,502.32
Delay by four years£272.48£14,168.96
Delay by five years£285.30£14,835.60

How to delay your state pension

You don’t need to do anything to delay your state pension, you simply don’t claim it.

The money will then be deferred until you apply to receive it.

When you want the money, you can make a claim at gov.uk. and the extra money will be added to your weekly payment.

Who is eligible to delay their state pension?

Most people can defer their state pension to get a bigger payout, but there are some exceptions.

Time spent in prison or when you or your partner get certain benefits does not count towards the nine-week deferrals.

You cannot build up extra State Pension during any period you get:

  • Income support
  • Pension credit
  • Employment and support allowance (income-related)
  • Jobseeker’s allowance (income-based)
  • Universal Credit
  • Carer’s allowance
  • Carer support payment
  • Incapacity benefit
  • Severe disablement allowance
  • Widow’s pension
  • Widowed parent’s allowance
  • Unemployability supplement

You cannot build up extra State Pension during any period your partner gets:

  • Income support
  • Pension credit
  • Universal Credit
  • Employment and support allowance (income-related)
  • Jobseeker’s allowance (income-related)

What if I reached 66 before April 6, 2016

The rules are slightly different if you reached the state pension age before April 6, 2016.

Instead of getting a 1% increase for every nine weeks you delay, you get 1% for every five weeks that you don’t claim.

You can also choose to take the money in higher weekly payments or as a one-off lump sum.

When you claim your deferred State Pension, you’ll get a letter asking how you want to take your extra pension.

You’ll have three months from receiving that letter to decide what you want to do.

How does the state pension work?

AT the moment the current state pension is paid to both men and women from age 66 - but it's due to rise to 67 by 2028 and 68 by 2046.

The state pension is a recurring payment from the government most Brits start getting when they reach State Pension age.

But not everyone gets the same amount, and you are awarded depending on your National Insurance record.

For most pensioners, it forms only part of their retirement income, as they could have other pots from a workplace pension, earning and savings.

The new state pension is based on people’s National Insurance records.

Workers must have 35 qualifying years of National Insurance to get the maximum amount of the new state pension.

You earn National Insurance qualifying years through work, or by getting credits, for instance when you are looking after children and claiming child benefit.

If you have gaps, you can top up your record by paying in voluntary National Insurance contributions.

To get the old, full basic state pension, you will need 30 years of contributions or credits.

You will need at least 10 years on your NI record to get any state pension.

Thrillseekers trapped on UK rollercoaster left screaming in terror after huge beam ‘crashes down onto track’

RIDERS on a rollercoaster were left terrified and “stuck for over an hour” after a structural beam fell onto the track.

The incident happened at 3.25pm on October 25, 2024, on the Monkey Mayhem ride at West Midlands Safari Park.

A metal structural beam from the ride is said to have fallen onto the track before the rollercoaster came to an emergency stop and closed.

Regal Smith, 27 – who was at the park with their son – said people started “screaming” and “running away” from the ride.

They said two people – who looked like a mother and son – were stuck on the ride “for more than an hour” before a rescue team were able to bring them down.

Regal, from Leicester, Leicestershire, said: “The ride was visibly shaking as the carts went round.

“I was next in queue for the ride, heard a bang, one of the main beams from the ride dislodged and obstructed the track.

“Then there was a big bang as the metal beam dislodged and clanged against the metal track.

“Everyone started screaming and running away from the ride including the people in the queue.

“A climber went up to look at the damage and a rescue team came too.

“The piece is dislodged, it’s clear to see. It looks like it’s a case of the bolt coming out.”

A spokesperson from West Midlands Safari Park said: “We can confirm that on Friday 25 October at 3.25pm, a support beam became partially detached on our Monkey Mayhem ride.

“Our ride operator performed an emergency stop and two guests were safely evacuated in line with our procedures.

“There were no reported injuries, and first aid assistance was offered but not required.

“We have also kept in touch with those involved.

“The safety of our guests remains of the utmost importance, and as a precaution, Monkey Mayhem will remain closed whilst checks are carried out and concluded.

“The rest of the Park is fully operational as normal.”

Earlier this month, Disney released the details of its first ever sea rollercoaster on its cruise ship.

Passengers will be able to test drive the new rollercoaster when the cruise ship sets sail for the first time in December 2025.

The Ironcycle Test Run will be Disney Cruise Line’s first traditional rollercoaster and the longest coaster at sea, at 820 feet.
